Harrods Girl's Hairstyle and Styling Products

In response to our beloved readers comments, here is how my hair looks like:

About a month after I permed my hair, the curls calmed down a bit, and my hairstyle was exactly like MK's (left) throughout Jan to mid-March. In mid-March, I got my ends trimmed and got a fashionable fringe at Urban Retreat, and my hair ended up looking like Ash's (right). This is sort of like a more dramatic version of the Chloe one (see below.) You like it?

So, I thought I would share with you all the styling products I use. I have a thing for the fabulous Kerastase, which are recommended by many celebrities, hair specialist/ stylists and are used on models at catwalks.

After I towel dry my hair a bit, I apply a few drops of Kerastase Serum Nutri Sculpt at the ends of the hair. It prevents split ends, (which is a pet peeve of mine.)

Then I apply Kerastase Creme Elasto Curl evenly through my hair (though I avoid the roots and fringe.) Use fingers to twist the hair, so it has a beautiful curl after it dries. Lastly, crunch hair ends gently. Tips: Apply the creme walnut size at a time. This Kerastase is fantastic, so do try it out if you need a styling product for curly/wavy (thick) hair. If you have thin hair, there is a similar hair mousse suitable for you.

  1. Love the hairstyle and thanks for the ideas on styling products. I tried styling my hair the way you presented yesterday and I liked it! Was difficult to avoid lunging at my comb and brush and blowdrying it. I have been having problems with flat, lifeless hair lately and this way of styling seemed to cure the problem. 8D

  2. After all that research and experimenting, Harrods Girl defintely knows what she's talking about. And her hair looks nice too! Very MK&A (becoz she brings their pics to the hairstylist to model after). But darn, she makes it sound so easy. Makes me wanna perm my hair, but alas, I fear by the time I master the waves they'll think of something completely different for winter 2005.

  3. Having had a very rough perm which took a year to grow out, I think I'll stick with the scrunching for now, unless I can figure out some way to get to Urban Retreat! ;-)

  4. Wow. GORGEOUS hair salon. And the same for the hair. LOL at Barneys Girl's comment. Thanks for the recommendation on the hair products.

Quick fashion question for you girls? Or rather, fit, question - about shoes. How SHOULD they fit? I just bought a super cute pair of these in the coral leather and couldn't decide between the 7 or the 7.5.

The 7.5 fit JUST perfect, but at certain angles and walking in it a bit my toes went over the edge a teensy bit and the heel would sometimes LOOK like it went over the edge a bit but didn't.

The 7.5 gave about a 1/4" room in the back behind the heel and clip-clopped when I walk, which was unsightly and didn't sound very nice either, so I went with the 7.

What do you think? I don't want to look like I'm trying to stuff my foot into a too tiny shoe, how attractive does THAT sound?! Do you think that will give the appearance, or do shoes usually fit that way?

  5. I would try and avoid having your toes peek over the edge. It just makes me think of Paris Hilton who always appears to have shoved her big flippers into way-too-small sandals.

  6. Thanks Cordelia. That's EXACTLY what I don't want to look like. *shudder* Still interested in hearing what you guys have to say ;)

  7. Cute shoes! I love the Cate shoes, too. I have the exact same problem, and I usually make the mistake of going a half-size too small. While my foot actually fits in that size, the proportion is wrong for walking, and I end up discarding the shoes eventually. I also have the problem with my toes going over the front of slides, but if I get the smaller size, I always feel like my heel is protruding from the back! If your feet are even slightly different in size, this can also be a challenge!

  8. The product is fab and always reliable. I also adore the MK&A 'do, but have sworn off any possibility of it working for me as I have bone straight hair that holds curl for about an hour. How did you prevent the perm from being an absoulte disaster? What is your natural hair type? I'm tempted to try, although I'm not going for the poodle look.

  9. My hair type is striaght. I went to a hair salon (not Urban Retreat but one in Hong Kong,) and got a perm. The perm's curliness relaxes after awhile, but the waves in my hair now are great for the boho look. To prevent the perm from being complete disaster, you can only hope you have a good hairdresser and that he/she knows what you want. I really recommend everyone to discuss your desired hairstyle with your hairdresser before letting him/her touch your hair.
About the shoe size problem, hmm, we would suggest you to avoid having any part of your feet poking out. But as cliche as it may sound, it really is down to which one you find more comfortable.

  10. Sorry, didn't mean to rain on your parade with my long-winded question :( , but thanks, I've decided I'm going with the bigger size. I'm with Clozac on having shoes I've gotten that are the right size but not disproportionate for walking and end up throwing them out (my niece loved 'em!), don't want to do that with these!!

  11. hi i have recently permed my hair but i do not like it at all, could you tell me any possible way i could get my straight hair back? would getting it relaxed still make it dry and rough as more chemicals will be applied?

    thanx sizzy x
