Volume is all over the place this season. So play it up in these adorable bubble dresses from Tracey Reese (left) and ABS by Allen Schwartz (right). Doesn't the ABS one look sort of reminiscent of the white Chanel dress Marissa wore to prom in the OC?

In case you haven't noticed already, I am loving the Tracey Reese collection. Here are a few more gorgeous dresses from her that are both flattering but different.

Lets not forget the silk dresses! I rather like these two less fitted cuts from See by Chloe (left) and ABS (right). The dressy silk material with the casual cuts makes a refreshing combination.

Personally I'm not a great fan of the prom ideas from Teen Vogue this year. They all look really pretty and romantic, but they also look kind of casual and are super difficult to put together if you don't have your own personal stylist and an unlimited budget. To achieve the same personalized effect, I suggest getting a simple but chic dress, like these two black strapless numbers from BCBG(left) and Derek Lam(right) and adorning it to your hearts content. Throw on a necklace, a shrug, a cropped jacket, long earrings, a belt, a shirt or even funky leggings- just have fun! Though do try not to overdo it and only do 2 or 3 of the things I suggested above, have a focus.

le sigh...i wish i had been much more cognizant of the fashion options when i was in high school. i don't mind my senior prom dress - it was unique and beautiful (and on sale), but i look at that last vera wang dress and think about how differently i could've looked that night. that dress is amazing.
ReplyDeletealso - square heels? what was i thinking?
this is exactly like what i wore... a cross between the gold tracey reese dress shown and the betsy johnson dress shown
ReplyDeletei think this is the way to go, short, poofy, hot
Ugh, sigh. The only problem with all these gorgeous dresses is that at my school's prom it is completely and totally frowned upon to wear short dresses. I hate long dresses, but managed to find a cute one after hours of scowering through sequiny-eastereggcolored horridness.
ReplyDeletei say all the more reason to wear a short dress if you want! yay for individualism!!!
ReplyDeleteon the topic of individualism: girls, it is OKAY to wear something besides strapless! i was recently looking at an article on a local news site--help so-and-so choose her prom dress. she was modeling half a dozen dresses, all strapless. the problem is, strapless gowns do not look good on all figures. some of us are a bit too endomorphic for that style and the result ranges from unflattering to obscene. someone will surely say, dont worry about your size, wear what you want, but strapless gowns do not accentuate everyone's particular beauty.
ReplyDeletethese dresses are so gorgeous and inspiring. i am going to wear a knee-length dress to my prom this year and i was worried that everyone else will be wearing really formal floor-length dresses. i can't wait to stand out and show off my dress! :D
ReplyDeletebtw, i love your blog! =)
aww almost each and every one of them dresses is soo sweet!
ReplyDeleteI really want to wear something like the gold Tracey Reese dress to my prom this year except in red. Thanks BG
ReplyDeleteOh, I like that 3rd to last black striped dress! So classy!

thank you, anonymous 5:35 poster! you're completely right about strapless gowns. i admit that i'm a fan, but then again, i'm not what you would call 'busty' -- at all.
ReplyDeletethe reason dresses come in so many different styles is that there is endless variety in the shape of a woman's body! i wish more people would celebrate the shapes they have ... i think the world would look much better for it :)
too bad i already bought my prom dress. why couldn't you come out with this post months ago? haha.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing that I looked at some of those dresses a few days ago. :D I really loved the red ABS dress, but my curvy small frame couldn't handle all the volume. I was totally going for a shift dress, but the dress code only permits knee length and longer attire. =(
ReplyDeleteI love how these trendy dresses can be worn more than once and in several different ways!

Though everything looks pretty great, i am in love with the betsy johnson dress :) so adorable
ReplyDeleteI love how each choice you made of dresses were sophisticated. My favs: the red dress with a rosette AND the ABS dress.
ReplyDeleteOkay, dahling, I've got a challenge for you. I absolutely hate my upper arms and was wondering if you have chanced upon a classy, non-frumpy prom dress with sleeves. If so, divulge swiftly. Thanks much! :D
ReplyDeleteWEIRD! I just went to saks and out of all the dresses I chose the black and white ABS dress and the sparkle white ABS dress for my prom...without even seeing this post! what a coincidence! I love them both and I don't know which one to choose
ReplyDeleteI just bought a cute abs dress from

Do women really wear dresses like these to prom? That seems a little unusual to me. Aren't they supposed to be pretty?
ReplyDeletesure I share your sense of nostalgia for the classic prom, actually I thought I was the only one who thinks like that, but you too, that makes me happy. Nice post!
