Eye Lash Perming

Yesterday evening, BG and I went to do something really girly together -we got our eye lashes permed. For those of you who have never heard people getting their lashes, it's basically getting your eye lashes curled permenantly. Well, permenant for maybe a bit more than one month, but really, that's permenant enough since it's likely your lashes will fall off naturally around that time.

The procedure takes around forty-five minutes to an hour. Now I can't describe the whole, exact procedure because my eyes were closed the whole time but from what I understand, the facialist curled and glued the lashes around a small, round piece of plastic thing. The facialist also applied some perming chemicals onto the lashes. After 20 minutes, the facialist applied more chemicals. After another 20 minutes, the facialist used oil to remove the checials and glue and that plastic strip thing. Voila -you've got curled lashes.

OK, so the newly permed lashes look a bit clumped together (because not all the glue could be removed without the facialist scrubbing too hard,) but give it a few days and you'll look like you've got naturally curled lashes. This wasn't my first lash perm, but it was BG's. BG forgot to keep her eyes completely shut during the procedure so the chemicals stung her lashes a bit. So if you're planning to get your lashes permed, remember to keep your eyes shut tight!

Perming our lashes only cost us around HK$80 each, that's around US$10 each. It's totally worth it because curled lashes make one's eyes look so much more awake. Plus, now I don't have to curl my lashes or apply mascara on for my normal days. If anyone is trying to decide whether to get their lashes permed -do it! Anyone else had their lashes permed before?

  1. This is a new one!

I'd love to see before and after photos before I'd even consider letting anyone put chemicals that close to my peepers ...

  2. So, that's what they mean by perming lashes. I used to see it everywhere in Japan and was a bit hesitant in trying it out. After reading about your experience, I defintitely want to try it!!

  8. I've done it before, at an Asian salon in my town. It only took around 10 or 15 minutes for me, so I'm not sure why your procedure was so long. It worked really well for me, especially since my Asian lashes are rather stiff and tend to point downwards naturally. Pity it only lasted maybe a month.

  9. hi, i'm chinese and my lashes are also stick straight and point downwards... but after perming my lashes (did the top and bottom lashes), they remained curly for 2mths... i don't have to put on mascara and they looked beautiful...
mine took 45mins too... i actualli fell asleep during the process... i did it in a salon in singapore... cheap... it was only S$45...

  10. Ooooooh I want to try this. If your bottom eyelashes are especially short, is it worth it to get those permed, too? Is there a minimum length that they have to be?

  11. was it a painful process?

  16. -Hey people, so sorry. We forgot to do before and after pictures. We promise to do it next time we get our lashes permed again.
-For those who want the address that we permed our lashes, email us.
-No it was not painful, as long as you keep your eyes closed. But it just depends on how scared of pain you are yourself.
-Yes you have to remove your eye makeup during the procedure.
-We only got our top lashes permed, not bottom ones.
-And I'm so glad to hear that more of you are considering to do it too!

  17. Wow, what a stupid procedure. The chemicals they use in perming are not safe at all and you should definitely not be putting the near your eyes especially since these chemicals have been linked to increased risks in birth defects; obviously they aren't safe!

  22. hi megan here again...
i permed my bottom lashes coz my lashes are stick straight. top curly, bottom straight seems a bit weird... with both sets curly, my eyes look big. and i tried using white eyeliner on my bottom lids and mascara on both sets of lashes... my eyes looked like ayumi hamasaki's... worth a try!! so for it!! u won't regret it...

  23. I have heard about this and noticed signs in the salons around New York City. I have a problem with some of my lashes growing down into my eyes, so maybe I should consider this too, even though I'm a guy.

  24. I've tried before and the results are awsooomeeee they look really natural, i went to the beach i do my daily things and they keep curled!! i have also tried the permanent dying, it's like if you have permanent mascara on your lashes, it's really good for those girls who don't have too much eye lashes, they make them more dense.
for those girls that want to try the perming and don't know where to get it, try on a hair salon (that's where i get it) or a spa. byeeee

  25. It sounds so great! Megan (or anyone!) has anywhere in Singapore to recommend for me to go and get it done?

    ReplyDelete
  26. i hate to say this, but i got it done and it was horrible. they curled my lashes tooooo much, that they actually looked shorter. and a few days later, a few of the center lashes fell out!!! i'm half asian with stick-straight lashes, but i would never do it again - the risk is too great!

  27. I have super long, curly caucasion lashes and I have never been so grateful. Kudos to anyone brave enough to do this. I have to take a deep breath when I put my contacts in in the morning. I had no idea lashes could even be straight enough to warrant such drastic measures.

  28. Hi I'm Singaporean Chinese and I had mine done about a month ago at Browhaus. I kinda totally hated it at first cuz man, it was like prying open your eyes (I have single eyelids) and they looked like little spider legs. I do agree with the 'awake' look, but they made it really hard for me to put on eyeliner. I don't use mascara by the way.

But after it subsided abit and stopped sticking to my upper eyelids, like around now, I kinda like them. They give my eyes that kind of flirty look and I actually can apply makeup in the 'double eyelid crease' that's caused by my eyelashes pulling it up.

Other than that, I wouldn't do it again.. kinda miss my slitty slitty sleepy eyed look. At least now I know I'll never go for eyelid surgery.

Oh yes, it was about an hour, kept my eyes tightly shut, and paid about 70 SGD.

  30. hey you guys! thanks for all the helpful info. i def. want to do this! however, i live in atlanta, ga and cannot seem to find anywhere who does this.

DOES anyone know anywhere for lash perming and for CHEAP!!

the 2 or 3 sites i've found are charging 45$ american-which is ridiculous!

  31. I am an American Indian with straight, 'average'length eyelashes. Earlier today I had my lashes permed, and was not immediately impressed with the results. However, others noticed it at glance, and I also see the slight improvement (it opened up my eyes.) When paired with mascara and/or liner, the results are visibally appealing. I recommend the procedure for the results. More importantly, because it was painless and affordable.
I paid $25 for the Christmas special, and enjoyed a free nap. :)
