SS07 Beauty Trend: Clip The Front Back

Ever since watching the Olsen twins' last movie, New York Minute ages ago, I have started wearing my hair like the way Ashley did in this screenshot occasionally in the summer. (It feels much more like a summer-y hairstyle rather than winter-y doesn't it?) I've always thought of it as an easy, potentially sleek or cute hairstyle. Interestingly, it was the choice of hairstyle on the Versace SS07 runway.

If you have wavy hair or hair that is curled at the ends, then you can make this hairstyle look glamorous.

If you have straight hair (like I do,) then you can make this hairstyle look uber-sleek on you. One thing that I love about this hairstyle is that it seriously accentuates your features, especially your eyes. So if you're wearing this hairstyle for a night out, pile on the mascara and eyeliner, or make sure to highlight your cheekbones!

But I can think of a few types of people who probably shouldn't wear this hairstyle. If you a) have a long face or forehead; b) have lots of pimples on your forehead; c) are over a certain age, then this hairstyle would probably just accentuate those features.
This hairstyle is great for everyday life because it's so easy to do. All you have to do is brush back the front part of your hair and use two pins to pin them in place at the crown of your head. I know this hairstyle is portrayed as a glamorous and sexy hairstyle at Versace show, but I think it's actually nice and practical if you're going to work and just want your hair out of your face. Another reason I like it is that it prevents the hair at the front from getting oily from contact with my face, which inevitably gets oily as the day goes on (-isn't that so annoying?) Plus, it's just a fun alternative to leaving my hair down everyday. Have you been wearing your hair like that too?

I've always been doing my hair like this. It's so easy and fun to do, also helpful when my bangs don't seem to want to cooperate with me. But I'm a little confused. I have a very oval face shape and you said that people with long faces should try to avoid this look when a lot of the models above have the same type of face.

i love this style and wore it like this the other day. i have wavy hair, and like to do this when i my hair is feeling less voluminous on top.

i kind of disagree about the long face thing though. sarah jessica parker wears her hair like this a lot (and looks great) and she definitely has a longer face.

no i haven't been wearing my hair like this cause i have curly hair. I don't know i find it that it doesn't look as nice when you have so much volume on your sides.

i also disagree about the long face thing. i have a long face and pretty high forehead, but i always get tons of compliments when i wear my hair like this!

I like to wear my hair like this whenever i feel too lazy to do something big. I've found that you shouldn't do this hairstyle, though, if you haven't washed your hair in a day, because you can really see the oily roots better than if you just pulled all your hair back.

You know, two really amazing hair stylist did my hair this way for the events I was going too and it did looked really, really good on me.

However, I get mixed feelings about it though. I get a 50/50 feedback from friends and family when I do it by myself. I have straight hair and a little bit of a high forehead though it's not terrible.

I keep wondering if this look goes well with a ponytail...?

I love this hairstyle! It's so easy and pretty. I haven't done it in a while though, cause I keep on forgeting: do you use bobby pins to secure it in place or barrettes or what?

I dont know if many round faced people could pull that off. But it would look cute otherwise.

i have a fairly high forehead too, and to be honest, i don't think this sort of hairstyle suits high forheads.

it IS a pretty hair style, but it doesnt work on me because a) high forehead, and b) i have naturally dead straight long hair so it makes the look a bit harsh. and now that i have a blunt fringe, this look wouldn't work for me.

it simply looks gorgeous on ashely olsen though!

oh i loved this on alexis bledel(on gilmore girls as i remember ehm when richard was in the hospital and at mia's wedding)! but ever since i turned 18 i've gotten some pimples on my forehead(stress or hormones? i've never had pimples before :( ) so i'm just gonna pass on this style for now :(

To me, most people look like this:

and this:

... with that hairstyle.

Coco Rocha and Ashley Olsen look decent though.

I think it is especially flattering on girls with heart-shaped faces ( wider cheekbones, narrow chins)

I dont have a long face, I have a square type face and this hairstyle looks horrendous on me but it looks very pretty on heart shape faces (because the chin balances out the "flatness" on top).

budget babe, if people tell you it looks bad then don't do it...

I love wearing this style either down or with a low/high ponytail, except I always do a litte bouffant with the top part

I'm never sure what kind of pins to use. Bobby pins don't really stay in place. I've been using a mini claw clip and it gives the front part some more volume. I absolutely agree though that this hairstyle is practical and cute. It tends to balance out my jaw.

So what do you use to clip back the hair? I'm having bad flashbacks to those chunky clips we wore in the early 90s.

I do that to my hair when I don't feel like anything too difficult but still want my hair to look nice. I always get compliments when my hair is like that.

I usually just use two bobby pins. They usually last the most of the day, if not the whole day.

I love wearing my hair like this! I usually don't pin it so far back though and so sleek against the the head though. I'm going to try that next.

I think this hairstyle looks gorgeous on some people, but I think more importantly over the high forehead is the person's face profile. If you have a prominent nose and a small foreheard this look doesn't look as great because it accentuates those features. On someone with a flatter nose bone and oval/heartshaped face, this look suits them best.

I got blunt-cut bangs back in February, and sometimes I just feel like having them in my face all the time is tooo much. So every so often I pin them back like this, which actually looks quite nice seeing as I have a very heart-shaped face. The only problem is that my bangs aren't long enough for me to pin them back as far back as those girls have it-I have to have the clips 1-3 inches from my hairline, and I use multiple clips (I usually use a red claw clip in the middle, a bobby pin to tame things out in the front, and a teeny weeny little blue square clip to get the straggling hairs in back. It actually looks v. cute!!
