Curl Your Lashes

Last year, my routine was just tinted moisturiser and blush (on the days I actually wake up on time). This year, I have officially added eyelash curling as the final step.
If you have read any top beauty secret lists in magazines, then you would remember that curling your lashes is always one of them. Curled lashes are supposed to make your eyes look bigger, make you look more awake -basically, brighten up your whole look. I always took this advice very lightly because it seemed that whenever I curled my lashes and applied mascara, my lashes just became straight after 5 minutes, so what's the point? However recently, I've started curling my lashes at the end of my makeup routine. Surprisingly when I get home after school, my lashes are still curled, and sometimes, people even ask me if I have mascara on.
The point I'm trying to make is, try curling your lashes everyday before leaving the house. It takes less than a minute to do and really livens up your eyes! And at the end of the day, you don't even have to wash it off. Convenient huh? Makes me think we should listen to conventional wisdom more often!

  1. do you pump the curler or just hold it there for a minute?

  2. warm the curler with your hair drier first to give your lashes a more permanent curl

  3. which brand of eyelash curler do you gals use?

my eyelash curler never seems to be able to hold the curl for more than 10 mins plus it pinches my eyelids!

  4. i dont understand.. are you curling your eyelashes WITHOUT putting mascara on, after you put the rest of your makeup on? i curl mine pretty much everyday, but i really don't see the point of curling them without putting mascara on as well.

and yes, kmf is right: warm the curler with the hairdryer first and your eyelashes stay curled for a reeeally long time.

  5. I cannot live without my eyelash curler. It's surprising what a difference it makes. When I first got mine a couple years ago, I was scared to use it at first b/c I thought that it would rip my eyelashes out! I know, stupid huh? ;-)

Anyways, I really like your blog it's really cool. Want to trade links?

  6. Call me lazy but I can never be bothered! I just use lots of good mascara ( with a good brush) and that is usually good enough for me ( and my lashes are definitely nothing to write home about when not heavily mascara-ed)

  8. i think it's odd how eye lashes can fall out??!? you probably wanna invest in a good curler. the best one is shu uemura's and sephora's portable curler does the job really well too. i curl my lashes whether or not i put on mascara and it wakes my eyes up immediately.

  9. Yup, I curl my lashes WITHOUT putting on mascara (unless it's a night out.) The curl surprisingly stays on mostly.

  10. I concur. It's amazing how much of a difference such a little curl can do for a girl.

  11. I'm too scared to curl my lashes. I know that's sad but I feel like I'd have some kind of freak accident and rip them all out. That's why I stick to amazing mascara!

But if you're not having a freak accident and your lashes are falling out, time to get a new curler. I'm surprised no one mentioned Shu's amazing curler. A worthy investment.

  12. ahh i love my eyelashcurler :D i have on from shisheido but it's hard finding those rubber things that go in it. (i believe shisheido also stopped producing those curlers, at least that was what the lady at the shisheido counter told me last time i asked)

  14. I always curl my lashes. Even when I am just going to the gym and don't put on mascara. It makes a big difference.

  16. For Asian eyes, curlers by Shu Uemura seem to work better...

I have the same problem with my eyelashes uncurling every time I apply mascara (and I'm not about to bust out the hairdryer - I hate spending too much time doing my makeup), which is why I normally use waterproof mascara. It doesn't smudge and flake like regular mascara and I don't have problems washing it off. I either use eye makeup remover, or just wash off what I can at night (which is enough that it's not bothersome) - by the next morning when I wash my face again, it's all gone.

  17. I have tried curling and bought a good curler, can we talk about technique? do we start at the base and work to the ends or do we just simply "crimp" right at the base and let them curl all by themsleves?? I know this may sound lame but I just started playing with eye shadow, let alone this type of thing. I also like the fakies they sell, but am afraid at a party or something someone will notice they have become unattached... hahahaha

  18. I'm exactly the same on the low make-up front though recently it's been vaseline on my lips and that's it for me! I just tried this though and it does make me look loads more awake which is a miracle so this is now on my official do in the mornings list :)

  19. charmaine: when you curl, you have to hold it near the base for 10 seconds, then move nearer to the ends of the eyelashes and hold for another 10 seconds.

  20. Thanks for the info anonymous..

I will try this out. I have read all the comments but cannot decipher if you apply mascara after will it typically make black "lash prints" on you upper lid after they are super curled? I ALWAYS wear mascara.. (?)

  22. I think the spam comments here should be deleted. They keep appearing in all your posts.

Anyway, a good way to curl your lashes is getting a lash perm instead. They last one to two months and they're cheap. You can apply mascara on top of it too.
