Terrible ad of the season: LV and Uma Thurman

It's no secret that I am no big fan of celebrity having any direct contact with the fashion industry such as having their own fashion line or dominating fashion magazine covers. But I like to think myself as a reasonable and open-minded person, so I judge everything according to the situation.

Like you know how the new Miu Miu ads are featuring celebrities like Selma Blair? One would think I would dislike this Miu Miu campaign because of the celeb touch, but I actually think it was done well and love the artistic photographs (and the beautiful Miu Miu coat of course).

But LV and Uma Thurman? AGAIN? Yuck! My gosh, I can't believe people (esp oh-so-talented Marc Jacobs) aren't sick of seeing Uma posing with Vuitton bags. And seriously, the photographs aren't even artistically creative or visually stimulating -almost all the campaign shots so far feature Uma leaning on something (like a chair or whatever she's sitting/ lying on top of.)

Bleh! The theme is unexciting and Uma is mega-boring. First Jennifer Lopez, then Uma Thurman -how much longer are we going to suffer? It's not like Vuitton doesn't get enough press attention without celebs anyways.

Mr. Jacobs, perhaps next season you will use a real model instead of another celebrity.

Ugh agreed. She's not someone that would provoke me to spend a fortune to buy a bag that she "represents".

I agree. Only Miuccia has mastered the art of the tasteful celebrity endorsement.

I love Vuitton's bags and I like Uma Thurman, but the images of this new campaign are really too boring!

I didn't like Selma Blair in the Miu Miu ad though. Evan Rachel Wood, okay. But Selma Blair - no way!! Then again, I'm extremely biased.

And this ad campaign is a little boring. But at least Uma is better than J.lo!!

Hello,

First let me say that I am a fan of your blog. I know that I'm a little late responding to your post b/c I was on vacay but lets not forget that Uma Thurman modeled before her acting career took off. I love the Miu Miu spreads - there's a lot going on behind the pictures to think about. But I am also equally enamoured w/ the LV ads. Uma's poses are strong and feature the bags prominently. She looks amazing!

I'll have to set my account up soon, so that I can lose the "anonymous" tag... have a fantabulous day!

I think they've just been PhotoShopping the new bag of the season into the same old Uma photo. Almost makes me long for J.Lo. Almost.

Personally, I am so tired of LV. If I have to see another brown bag with LV plastered all over it, I am going to scream. They're overdone and oh-so-mainstream.

Haha, it seems like no one liked the JLo ads -I'm glad.

i.michelle: Yes she was a model before, but she's an actress now and should stick to it.

Flypaper: lol.

maria bean: I still love the Vuittons, just not the ads.

i think that signature vuittons are perfect for celeb/fashion-wannabes lol here in lisbon you can buy the fakes in every street corner, and even if it was a real bag... they are so "nouvell-riche", like eww... seriously...they lack class and style and they are sooooo mainstream... About Uma..i guess she's a lot stylish then j.lo but i really don't have an opinion about the ads cause i'm bored just to look at them and see another of those bags :/ kkk, rita, lisbon

i think the previous Uma-LV ads were quite nice but these are beginning to look stupid. What's worse though, are the Versace ads with Madonna/Demi Moore. Those are horrid!!

Its evident that all the people talking negatively of a woman such as Uma Thurman have lost the true essence of what an ad portrays to different people. She is so gracious and represents a true woman. To me she represents honesty and integrity. Juggling being a mom and actress , she has my respect and the ad may just be about advertising a bag but when a woman like her is doing it ,it gives the bag a whole newmeaning. Im not materialistic but the ad makes me want to get one of those bags just to have a symbol of being classy and true to myself. She unlike many actresses manages to stay true to herself and to her fans. Jennifer Lopez and her fur frenzy is another story altogether.

I'm just glad Uma is having so much success and getting on with her life without Ethan Hawke. Good for her!

PS - I love the bags.
