So while it was stylish to wear corsets as simply corsets alone at parties and evening events, it would be so much more fun, (not to mention economical) to be able to also wear them during daytime. So how to wear corsets during daytime and not look like a well, you know. The solution is to wear them over T-shirts!
I've heard quite a few of my friends say, errr that's a weird fashion trend. And it is a bit untraditional, but seriously, it's sooo cute and chic! The UK people have already started wearing it last summer, but this trend just started spreading over the US when Miu Miu showed it on the catwalk. Check out the Feb 06 issue of Teen Vogue for ideas (see above picture of Gemma Ward.) Get more ideas from SS06 Miu Miu:
Wearing corsets, or camisoles over T-shirts can be a tricky business, here are some tips: - T-shirt should be plain colored. Simplicity is the key.
- T-shirt should have a round neck. No V-necks allowed!
- The camisoles on top should be tight around the chest to give your outfit a more defined shape.
...And possible camisoles/ corsets to go with it:
Urban Outfitters. As seen from the left girl, it is possible to wear a tank top underneath instead of a Tee.
One last little note: For night, go for more neautral combination of colors. But for daytime, go for lots of colors this spring/ summer!
those are tank tops not corsets, corest you have to tye or huck up like in the Elizabethan or Victorian era. If you can breath in it then its not a corest.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Yes, I realise those aren't corsets, but I couldn't find pictures of them so... And if you did read my post properly, I said casual corsets, not haute couture corsets, so you can actually breath in them.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog a lot and well usually I do agree with your posts but this... esp Miu Miu, those are ugly, there is no other way to describe it. The yellow shirt girl is cute, the dress is cute; the t-shirt reminds me of 80ies, which is not cute. The only good combo imo is the last black/grey one. I do realise tho that sometimes it's difficult to find a decent picture online.
ReplyDeleteThough some of those particular pictures are not that impressive, I quite like the idea. In fact I'm going to try it (possibly fail miserably) and see what eventuates. Love the Marc Jacobs dress and blue cami pictured! They'd probably be two items to do the trend justice. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely luvluvluv this blog!!its totally brilliant. jus wat i need to keep myself updated with d latest fashion. keep up d great job!
ReplyDeleteThe Urban Outfitter stuff looks quite strange.
ReplyDeleteI love this trend, too, but it is not so simple to find the right corset to wear with a t-shirt underneath. Usually even usual corsets are quite tight, I don't like skin-tight t-shirts to wear under...I think I should find a solution to this dilemma!
ReplyDeleteThe t's with the dresses have got to go...tank, yes...t's...um, no.
ReplyDeleteToo little girlish in my opinion.
Chick: Yes, this trend is quite girly. Perhaps that is why I like it.
ReplyDeleteSuperqueen: Ya, corsets maybe too tight for a Tee to fit underneath. But we can always wear pretty camisoles to substitute the corsets!
Wearing corsets, or camisole over T-shirts are really a very new trend. I will certainly try it.
