Summer Make-Up Fun

For me, one of the most fun things about make-up is the eyes. For summer, I like it to be summery, colorful and cheery. Here are some my favourite summery looks for your inspiration.
This look from Smashbox is summery with an edge. The strike of electric blue under the eye contrasts brilliantly with the nuetral color on the top lid, making the colors and the eye pop out more.
If that is a bit too edgy for you, try this softer version from Lorac by using a lighter, softer shade of blue. This is great for the casual daytime look.
Another way to use dual shades also from Lorac. I think this look is more dramatic than the last, because of the contrasting shades and the abrupt change of colors on the lids. Notice how green/blue has been very prominent in these few looks.
Another summery look I am in love with was inspired by Harrods Girl's visit to the Lancome counter. They covered her lids with a shiny white base and the upper lids with this gorgeous shade of pink that actually showed very well!! I've tried it with the shades I already had at home, but unfortunately due to the different textures, the effect has not been the same.

And lastly, for something more this season (its all about the nuetral palette) try these looks from the Shiseido Golden Kiss collection- but only if you have a tan (natural or self), otherwise it would just not be the same.

Have fun with these summer looks everyone!

  1. hi guys! I really love your blog and read it everyday. In a few weeks I will be starting my freshman year of college so I have a request for you! Could you please please do a post on college fashion and/or college packing, since you are both wizened college students? I am really woried about cramming all my clothes into the tiny dorm closet and deciding what to bring/what not to bring. Please, I'm sure many of your college readers would appreciate it! :-) Thanks!!

  2. here here--that's a great idea! i hope your college years go very well for you. take clothes that are easy to care for and durable--most college washers and dryers that i have known are bent on destruction. also a lot of separates that mix because sometimes you will be reduced to wearing what's clean (relatively.)

    nice makeup ideas

  3. Hey! I love the first look, but I have brown eyes... What striking colour do you think would work well with brown eyes?

Any help would be awesome. And also, I think that a post about college would be great because I'm starting my freshmen year this September too!

    Thanks,

  4. this is a great site. i had to browse through the past posts, so much prettiness!

i have a question about the prety dresses you posted earlier...as nice as they look, they can get cold sometimes in the evenings...what's the best way to cover up? a shawl?

also, is there a way to wear the dresses during the day? in a more casual environment? they're so pretty it's a waste to only get to wear them one or two times. thanks!

  5. Ooo yes, I did love the Lancome eye shadow the makeup lady tried on me. It had that 60s mod feel and spring prettiness to it.

h: We'll be doing a few more posts on dresses really soon. I'll see if I can answer your questions then!

  7. QUESTION!

I have a question about sunglasses, i have about two already that i don't use but when i buy them i think that they are definitely that ones i'll be using the most. Anyway today i went out and found some very similar to the ones you mentioned on your blog but i don't know i felt like maybe they were too big. They completely covered my eyebrows which i liked but they also kinda felt as if they reached half way through my cheek...you know they seemed to be only a few centimeters above my nostril. I was kinda in a rush so some other time i'll go and really look at myself with them, but what do you think? do your sunglasses reach half way of the bridge of your nose?.. I don't have small features but i also don't want to look like a walking bus.

  10. Do you ever notice that when you visit cosmetics counters in London, L.A, and such, the makeup girls tend to apply the kinda eye-makeup that looks good on caucasian eyes, but not on asian eyes? Being asian, and even though I have a double crease and not single like some girls, I've never once been satisfied with any of the eye-makeup I've had at makeover counters.. chanel, lancome, rimmel, etc.

  11. Mia: HG is 20 and I'm 19

Primrose: That happens to me a lot. But I had THE most amazing make-up application once at the Chanel counter at Neiman Marcus SF once. But alas, I've never been able to achieve it again.
