Asian Eye Make Up

As many of you have noted, the western way of eye-make up application simply does not work as well for Asian eyes due to different structures. So to make sure that Asians have some summer make-up fun as well, I've found some Asian inspirations for you.

As much as I didn't like Gina on last season's ANTM, her being on the show DID teach us something about Asian eye make-up application (I checked April as well, but she had western eyes). I love this dramatic blue fading effect with the smidgen of silver at the corners. Looks fairy-like.

A bit of eyeliner, a lot of mascara and some pinkish eye shadow, the look is very simple yet sophisticated.

For something edgier, here they used the usual mascara, eye liner and bronze-ish eye shadow, but added a black line underneath the eye to give it a more edgier effect emphasizing the slant of the eyes.

Fresh off the runway, is the pale pink lipped fresh faced look. For that effect, observe the asian models- Hye Park at Giambattista Valli and Han at Peter Som.

Then of course there is Du Juan. Love the sexy red lips and those lashes!! They are so perfectly long and curled!!

For more star style, take note from Ziyi Zhang and Lucy Liu. I just love the fresh faced look of Ziyi Zhang, it looks so natural (like nothing is on it) and yet we know a lot of effort was probably put into it.

Have fun girls!

  1. I love that you take note of Asian readers, not many fashion blogs do that and I am so glad you do! Because it helps to have these things to read :) and asian role models to look up to in terms of dressing and makeup. thanks!

  2. i second "grace". there are not too many blogs, even magazines that feature make-up for asian faces. thank you!!

  3. some magazines like australian vogue or bazaar do cover asian style makeup but they were done from a western perspective so as an asian i just dont find them "authentic" at all, if you know what i mean! well done hehe :)

  7. of course not! in fact, i believe not too many girls in the asian countries are single lidded. they have "eyelid stickers"/surgery to get rid of that! so much so that none of my friends are actually single lidded! its just our eyes are not as deep-set as caucasians' :)

  10. remember the first cover of Chinese Vogue? Du Juan (on far left) looks absolutely stunning!!! I think that's the best I've ever seen an Asian girl look... do you have any tips on that?

  19. Thanks for the post! I'm actually one of those girls that has a monolid AND a double lid so I tape mine for the sake of making them even - 'tis such a pain.

Like some of the others have said, WHERE'S GONG LI? She may be a bit older but she looks FABULOUS for her age. To be honest, I think she looks better than Zhang Zi Yi, even when age is not a factor, and is by far more talented.

  20. Thanks so much for this post and addressing asian girls!!! I've mastered smudgy eyeliner and curly lashes but I'm still working on those bronzy looks. Keep it up I love your blog.

I've got one monolid and one doublelid, but don't go sticking. I prefer a little imperfection.

  21. well i'm asian and i'm NOT monolid. same goes for most of my friends and they don't use those eyelid tape thing....

  23. ok, I have a rather mixed heritage, and my eyes seem to be stuck halfway between asian, and western. I can't seem to find anything that works . . . advice, anyone?

  30. what can i say?? thank you so much!!!
    i'm loving it!

  31. OMG eye make-up for asians are soooo difficult, lots of people have surgery to have wide open eyes, but i don´t know...
i thought about having it, but i hate needles hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  32. Don't use Ziyi Zhang as an example of eye make-up for Asians. She had done the double-eye lid surgery so now her eyes got the western style eye lids and are more eye make-up friendly than those of us Asians who still have our single eye lid.

I think I'm going to do the surgery myself. It does make a differece.

  33. I have the type of Asian eye that naturally has a visible lid but it's still different to Caucasian eyes. Especially mascara and lashcurlers are tricky. I still appreciate the tips here because make-up tips for small and wide set Caucasian eyes aren't quite right for Asian eyes.

  34. HEY!!

Omg, thank you SO MUCH for this post!! My formal is coming up in 9 days, and I'm doing my own make up, but I can't seem to find anything anywhere that could lead me in the right direction with my asian features. So thank you heaps!!

(I love Ziyi Zhang and Lucy Lui)

  35. Although make is the number one factor in how these woman look, jewellery can make a huge difference, the sparkle of diamonds or diamante jewellery if diamonds are too expensive can make a huge difference to the overall look.

  37. thanks so much!

I used to make my eyes look bigger with make up, but after seeing this, especially the gina make up (great for a over the top party) i really am going to experiment with make-up with accent ON my asian eyes, and not desparatly wanting to widen them up.

Sorry for my crappy english -o-"

Thank you. It is so hard to find a blog with a true look at asian makeup. Most of the time it is from the western piont of veiw, but that is no help at all.
