Stylish School Bags

To prepare us for the beginning of yet another school year, I thought I'd look at some stylish school bags to get us excited. Now when I think of school bags, the first thing that pops into my head is the typical Jansport backpack in its various shades that was ever so popular back in high school. But as I've proceeded to college, I've tried to veer away from them because a)one DOES need variety after so many years of backpacking b) it never matches with any of my outfits and c) its time to gradually move onto something a bit more sophisticated.

One of my favourite brands for school bags is Le Sportsac. Their bags are light, spacey, looks good and are waterproof. I especifically loved their LAMB collection back then. I used to buy one each season (and I still use them!), but alas, Gwen stopped designing bags for Le Sportsac and now their collections are not quite as impressive. But I think these two are ok, especially the black messenger one on the left, which will definitely match all your outfits!

Currently, I am using a brown Coach tote from last season that looks remarkably like the one on the left except mine is not as cool and is not reversible (although who wants the Coach tag hanging outside anyway? It was designed to be inside for a reason!). I really like it as again it matches everything, is sophisticated, fits everything and surprisingly doesn't get dirty that easily. For a smaller size, the one on the right is of a pretty good size too. It fits the average notebook and laptop snugly. Although I'm not sure how i feel about their new print here. . .
Another good choice is the classic Longchamp one (left). I used to not like it, but after seeing some really cool people on the streets with them, this design is definitely growing on me. And I can't help but lust after their new brown suede bag (right) this season. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

For something more sophisticated, I am loving these two from Anthropologie that sooo reminds me of Miu Miu this season.

I am also absolutely LOVING these Warhol totes from Urban Outfitters. They are SO COOL. I can totally see someone in a punky tee, skinny jeans and heels wearing this.

American Eagle has some pretty cute options too. The navy one is very reminescent of Longchamp's one except at a much friendlier price and the brown messenger the girl in the ad looks adorable.

The blue bow bag is pretty, feminine and of a size that is perfect for school. The strap also looks adjustable, so it can be worn long across or short as a tote! And this black messenger here is the epitome of a messenger bag. Definitely stylish school bag material. Oh and these two are from Urban Outfitters.

For more classic messengers, look to Accessorize. This suede brown one is beautiful. And this army green one with the leather details reminds me of Balenciaga for some reasons, but I can't quite put a finger on as to why.

  5. I actually have the American Eagle one and it doubles nicely as a purse, however, if you do plan to use it for school, you might be able to fit a small textbook and a notepad. I actually use it as a purse.

  6. That is so fucking funny. I own the black and white striped Velvet Underground Warhol one. It does look great, and all i wear are either lowtops or flats, skinny jeans and tanks/tee's. Yea, it's awesome. And for books it's amazing... literally one of the most sturdy bags I've ever owned. Three pockets on the inside, and also this little banana coin purse attached to like a three foot silver chain. It's awesome, haha. :)

  7. I LOVE the brown Anthropologie! However, I've never been too big on bags for school, it's so much easier to just carry everything (and better for your back too!)

  11. Good idea to write a post about bags... I'm looking for one at the moment. This last one from Accessorize looks great. I've seen a messenger bag at Gap, it's not very stylised but seems okay for me, and is cheap. Anyway, I use to have two bags when I go to school : one typical purse with all my girl's stuff and a mag bag where I put all my books.

  12. i love the bags from accessorize, but i live in the us so i can't ship it here. do you know of any american stores that sell stylish bags like those from accessorize with a similiar price range?

    thanks!

  13. the classic longchamp one is not practical at all. my mom has one and she compares it to a flimsy cheapo lunch bag. it has no bottom support so when you put stuff in it, it loses its shape completely and looks like an awkward misshapen bag. don't waste money on this one girls!

  14. ahh! thoes Warhol totes are absolutely rad! im really going to have to get me the one on the right...

  15. well my school days are long gone but i do think the Coach ones are great for work too! when i was in college i used the longchamp one cos its just so light and it comes in so many different colors and because it is so cheap i could just toss it around without having to worry about dirtying it.

well i think you should cover Bally too because they make some pretty cool bags for school and young professionals! :)

  17. I tried the Coach tote bags for school but I have to warn people that they are not very durable. After a few months of use, the plastic spine that lines the circumference of the bottom came became exposed and I had to cut it off.

  20. Anonymous who said these bags aren't big enough- You're so wrong, I have the Accessorize bag and it's the perfect size for all my books which are usually 11 inches long! I know it doesn't look big, but believe me when I say it is.

  21. Great and practical post! The Longchamp classic and suede bags are gorgeous as are the Anthropologie choices. (I only wish Anthropologie would bring their prices down a bit!!) I'll keep checking daily for your yummy finds, thanks!

  22. I really like your choices. I've actually been looking for a school bag recently but haven't had any luck finding one that I like. The whole it needs to fit books but can't be too big and annoying to carry around... is a hard match! And of course I would never carry around a back pack. But the ones you put up are really perfect for school. Plus they are pretty but still very practical. I love the Longchamp suede bag and the Coach brown tote. You've definately given me some ideas. Thanks :)

  23. I can't believe you don't like Jansports, they're a classic. No they're not stylish and they don't match everything but they're not supposed to. In my opinion, girls who use messenger bags, totes or tiny backpack are trying to hard to stylish. If you can't make a statement with your outfit(even if you're wearing uniform) then a bag is not going to help.
