Oscar's 2007 Fashion

This year's Oscars fashion was, well, not particularly disastorous nor inspiring. Obviously everyone was on their top form, but the dresses were just... okay. Maybe there has been too many award shows recently that I've gotten a bit jaded. So anyways, here are the top fabulous outfits from last night:

Queen of the night, Helen Mirren looked amazing in Christian Lacroix. If it's a body shot (as opposed to closeup shot,) it's hard to remember she's alreayd 61 years old!

Cate Blanchett looked elegant in Armani Prive, and right on the whole metallic, futuristic trend. Makeup, jewelery, everything was simple impecable.

Rachel Weisz wore a seemingly simple Vera Wang gown. I love that long cluster of diamonds (and the diamond ribbon) at the top of her dress. The dress is so perfectly tailored- it's like the dress is softly wrapped around her, and the diamonds solidified the whole vision.

After the brilliant yellow dress she wore to the Golden Globes, Reese Witherspoon's Nina Ricci by Olivier Theysken dress here just didn't seem as striking. I'm sure this gown floated around Reese beautifully, but it just isn't the most photogenic dress.

Like Blanchett, Nicole Kidman can do (almost) no wrong on the red carpet. She looked elegant, as usual, in a Balenciega dress.

Nicole Kidman's BBF, Naomi Watts looked really pretty last night, although for some reason, she landed on a worst dress list.

Another one who landed on the worst dressed list was Gwenyth Paltrow, who wore Zac Posen. I thought she looked pretty sophisticated in it and she looked really pretty on TV, but I can see how it's not for everyone's taste.

And once again Cameron Diaz landed on worst dresed lists. I think she looked pretty -go find a picture of her hair, it's absolutely perfectly wavy. Her white Valentino gown had a haute couture-shape but in a much simplified way.
Surprisingly, not many people wore black. Rinko Kikuchi wore a slinky, not-boring-at-all black number.
Kate Winslet looked lovely in a simple, expertly-draped Valentino gown. Nothing exciting, but hey, points for her for wearing natural-looking makeup.
While I don't know if Jessica Biel was actually nominated for anything, I thought she looked gorgeous. She absolutely stood out in that hot pink Oscar de la Renta gown. She wore it oh-so-elegantly, especially with that belt.
And of course, how could I not mention Jennifer Lopez, who definitely impressed in a grey Marchesa gown. Is she reinventing herself?
As to why so-and-so wasn't on the list?
Penelope Cruz -The Versace gown is certainly glamorous, but the tail was way excessive.
Anne Hathaway -The huge black bow is cute and all, but it didn't seem to suit her much.
Jennifer Hudson -She wore the Oscar de la Renta dress well enough, but that metallic shrug? Seriously.
Kirsten Dunst -First of all, yay, Marie Antoinette most definitely deserved the best costume award. And for some reason, I can't decide whether I like Kirsten's Chanel dress or not.

  2. In my opinion, Reese Whiterspoon was hands down the winner of the night. She looked amazing !

  3. Every best/worst dressed list I have seen has been different! I thought Cameron, Gwyneth, Naomi, Cate and Nicole looked AMAZING. But I agree with the commenter above- the best dressed was definately Reese. I think the picture you posted is a tad overexposed. Look at any other pics of her and she looks perfect.

  4. Maggie Gyllenhaal's dress by Proenza Schouler was by far my favorite, with Reese coming in second. I agree with you on Helen Mirren - she looked gorgeous.

  5. You should really put a picture of Penelope Cruz up, she was a VISION. She looked absolutely beautiful, and her Versace dress was to die for.

  7. I was playing the nintendo wii and my sister started attacking me saying "turn off that stupid game, the academy awards are on! The women on that show had outfits on like that.

  8. Cate's dress was so incredibly sexy. I know it sounds weird, but I think she looked naked in it...it was like second skin and outlined everything. Hawt. J.Lo's dress was beautiful and very classic. I think Kirsten Dunst's dress was super cute and I definately loved it. And Reese Witherspoon! C'mon, that dress was gorgeous, it looked so organic.

I have to disagree on Jessica Biel. I think hot pink and black is a tacky combination if you're over 16, especially with sideboob, and matching lipstick to your dress is a bit...meh.

  9. emily blunt's dress is definitely worth a mention!

  10. Yes, J Hud's shrug looked awful!! LoL.

I personally loved Keisha Whitaker's Dress. She stood out. J-Lo looked LOVELY! But that's no surprise.

  11. that worst dressed list is definitely wrong, gwyneth and cameron looked great.

    looooved rachel's look, gorgeous

jennifer hudson was kinda dissapointing cause andre was supposedly helping her pick the outfit, i mean what went wrong?

  12. Cameron Diaz dress was horrid yet her hair was very pretty. She's a good brunette, doesn't look as stupid.

Kirsten Dunst was my favorite! While I love runway fashions, I hate most celebrities styles. Both them and their stylists are doing something wrong in taking the runway between the runway and the red carpets. But Kirsten Dunst looked great, very trendy.

And somewhat off topic, anyone see the Will Ferrel and Jack Black performance? Hil-a-ri-ous

  13. I thought Nicole Kidman looked absolutely ridiculous. What's with the bow? Does she think she's a cat?

Reese looked fabulous, and so did Helen Mirren. Both of the girls looked elegant, shapely, and the colour on both of their dresses was beautiful with their skin tones.

Diaz's dress was a flop, or maybe a fold since she looked like a napkin. If you ignore that though, it did absolutely nothing for her shape which is probably why she was put on the worst dressed list.

  14. I for one liked all the dresses you mentioned except Jennifer Hudson's (is that her name? I'm too lazy to check!) and Anne Hathaways's. Jessica Biel's was just OK. And I absolutely LOVED Penelope Cruz's whole look, you have to give her credit for keeping it simple on top to create balance...Check out my blog...I changed the banner! Woo-hoo!!!

  15. helen mirren looks fine, although a bit too encrusted for my taste

cate blanchett is like, woo hoo look at how skinny i am in this ugly gunmetal grey dress

    rachel weisz looks gaudy

reese looks too mermaidy although she looks prettier than she did last year omg

nicole looks absurd as usual but that red is a stunning color

the rest are pathetic! naomi watts-bleh, gwyneth not only looks like a fish she is in salmon!, cameron is wearing a tablecloth, rinko looks scaley, miss winslet's dress is a ghastly shade and shows her garment-lines! tacky!!!! i agree jessica biel looks absolutely trashy in that fluorescent dress and i think that sideview is OUT, thank goodness, and j-lo looks like an OLD LADY!!!!

there you have it, the "emperors" have no clothes

  18. Did you notice that Beyonce was wearing that Armani Prive Wedding gown from the pictures you posted a while ago from fasion week?

  19. My favorite dress of the night was gwyneth paltrow's. She looked sophisticated and elegant.

In close second comes Kate winslet with this simple but very elegant mint-green gown. Absolutely loved the colour, so different and unusual.
Although, Beyonce was wearing the same colour but looked like a slut (sorry! but why does she always has to show off and wear dresses cut at her thighs).

I loved Cate Blanchett's dress and loved the bottom with what looked like littles mirrors. Anyway, very daring!

    Reese looked nice, not breathtaking but nice. I'm not a big fan of purple;

And as many others , I'm torn about penelope's. I really liked the top and the pale pink color but hated the bottom with all those feathers everywhere!

    Helen Mirren looked GREAT! I can't believe she's 61!

Nicole Kidman looked stunning as well and I liked the bow, it's not that big and quite discreet actually compared to Charlize's last year !!

Anyway, overall a good year. Not spectacular but good. The best was 2005 and I find it hard to top that one!

  20. I totally agree! Gwyneth paltrow was both sexy and elegant in an understated manner. The dress fitted her so perfectly! Her's was definetly my favourite of the night.

Helen Mirren was queenly..even at 61 she manages to look MUCH better than some of those sweet young ones..she Rules!

Kirsten Dunst's dress was refreshing, not the typical look and not easy to carry off..but she did. It showed off a lot of personality..kudos to that..but can't say i like the feathery stuff at the bottom of the dress

Really can't agree on Reese Witherspoon though. She looked really worned out and the dress made it worse. The colour was unflattering, made her skin look dull... and she should have cover up her shoulders, lost a bit too much weight i think. But well, poor thing.

  21. Gwyneth Paltrow looked very elegant in her Zac Posen gown. NET-A-PORTER.com carries more casual but still elegant Zac Posen pieces.

  22. Hellen mirren- looked amazing!! she looked so energetic and her dress was beautiful..

Jennifer hudson- i was reading BryanBoy.. he said she looked like a baked potato? i thought she looked fine.. obviously the shrug definitely wasn't the way to go but she looked nice.

Jessica biel- not sure about her dress.. a lot of people liked it but i think that it was a little too.. um.. revealing.

Cameron diaz- looked fine.. don't know what the fuss was about

    Nicole Kidman- Stunning.

  24. We didn't make it to the Sheriff's office until the next morning. I reported Zedekiah Smith, just like I should, but for some reason, it didn't feel like a good deed anymore.

Our next stop was the Variety Store. Old Mr. Poulson's eyes kindled when he saw the crystal rock. Twenty-five cents went to Frank, who wasted it on candy. I saved mine for something monumental
