A Light Eye Cream

I started using eye moisturiser when I first started using skincare. It's always been an important part of my skincare regime since the eye area seems like the first area that aging can be seen obviously. I mention this because I know plenty of girls who don't use eye moisturiser. (Whenever I find out, I try to encourage them to start using eye moisturiser, sometimes even physically sampling and promoting eye creams at counters to them, but almost no one ever listens to me!) Since I have combination/ slightly oily skin, I always stick to oil-free eye gels. The two that I used a lot were by ~H2O+ and Laneige.

Anyways, ever since obvious fine lines have started to appear under my eyes last year, I have started to wonder whether my eye moisturiser wasn't enough. Logically, I know I am simply aging and have seriously bad sleeping habits. But it really hit home last summer, when the salesladies at various beauty counters stopped recommending me water-based eye moisturiser and started recommending me the slightly heavier creams. So it was definitely time for me to 'up' my eye moisturiser from eye gels to light eye creams.

Thankfully a year ago, BG and her friend gave me a thank you gift -Caudalie Contour Cream Eyes and Lips. They were spending a term in Paris back then and said Caudalie products are cheaper and worth it there. So last fall (07), I started to use it and I really liked it! It was a great eye cream in that it was just what I was looking for: it was not just another water-based moisturiser since it was not oil-free, but it was light -it didn't feel sticky or thick and most importantly, didn't clog up the pores around the eye area. To be honest, I have no idea whether it actually helped with fine lines or other eye are problems, but it's not like I can tell with other eye products either, so I've decided to be satisfied with any decent preventive eye cream.

My tube of Caudalie is about to be used up and now I'm in search for my next light eye cream. Notice that I keep on emphasising 'light'. There are simply too many eye creams out there that are too heavy for my combination skin.
The description of Clinique's All About Eyes sounds like it's just what I'm looking for. But the reviews over at Makeup Alley make it seem mediocre, and All About Eyes Rich sounds too heavy. Plus I'm hesistent with Clinique products because I've tried a few out (like Moisture Surge) two years back, but I have to say I wasn't impressed with any of the products.
Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avacado is another candidate. I've already tried it out from samples and well, I'm not too sure what to think about it. It's certainly not a very heavy eye cream so in that aspect, it should fit my criteria, but I think it's just slightly too heavy. And after testing it out for a few weeks, it didn't seem very moisturising.

If you know any good ones, please recommend me a light eye cream! I need to buy a new one really soon!

  1. I have very oily skin, but I'm also getting to the age of worrying about wrinkles. I've started using Aveeno's positively ageless line. It's a drugstore line, but it's kind of expensive. Still, I like it--it has a very creamy texture, but it doesn't leave my face any where near as greasy as Kiehls' "light" moisturizer did! So despite the feeling of the eye cream, it actually is pretty light once it sets in. I would recommend trying that before going to a more expensive brand!

  2. Hi there! I was in the same situation before!!

I have also started by using LANEIGE one. Later I felt it is not enough for my visible fine lines. But works fine with my concealer.

CLINIQUE all about eye rich would be too heavy for young age, that's the comment I heard from people too so I wouldn't try that.

Finally, I chose CLINIQUE: Repairwear Intensive Eye Cream. It is not too heavy/oily but very moisturizing, and works for preventing dry, fine lines~ I am using the third tube now.

However, the CLINIQUE one is still not enough for removing my fine lines. Therefore I am using "Very Precious Eye Serum" from LOCCITANE together with it now. If you want light and useful serum I would recommend this one~ It is moisturizing and totally light! It helps fix my dry, fine lines and also, a little help on my dark eye circle problem! I put that before CLINIQUE Repairwear eye cream everyday now~~

  3. I use Natura Bisse Diamond Extreme eye cream, but it's $180. However, it lasts forever. My mom swears by Shiseido eye cream, and she looks pretty youthful for her age. But that may be due to her being asian w/ oily skin =)

  5. How about Jo Malone's Green Tea & Honey Eye Cream? I have oily skin and it doesn't feel heavy or give me milla.

  6. I haven't tried Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream, but have heard rave reviews about it (esp from my gf who has flawless skin!). I also highly recommend Kiehl's Light, Nourishing Eye Cream though. It's exactly how it sounds. Another good one to try is Neutrogena's Radiance Eye Cream. It's a little too light for me, but I love that it has a oh-so-subtle shimmer to it that makes your eyes glow a bit.

  7. I have been using CLINIQUE's All About Eyes cream for almost 3 years now and I am profoundly happy with it. My sleeping habits are among the worst around, but this darling cream visibly reduces all the evidence. You just need to make sure you use it regularly, like any other product that you use to achieve results.

This cream is light, refreshing, easy to apply, and absolutely works, which is the most important thing. As yet I've no fine lines or bags under my eyes, and I just hope I can always have the opportunity to keep using this lovely product.

  9. I've been using Lancome Primordiale Eye Skin Recharge and that pretty much sets in a minute after application. I have combination skin and it doesn't get greasy all throughout the day. It is gel-based though and if you're looking for something on the creamy side, the SA suggested Lancome Renergie Eye Cream. I have used Kiehl's Light Eye Moisturizer and the Avocado one but those did not do much for me.

  10. I honestly just use my sunscreen + moisturizer from olay around my eyes because I'm sort of transitioning from teenage skincare to adult, but I will recommend that you check out reviews on makeupalley.com for eye creams (it's free to join). I really do well selecting makeup/hair products since I started looking at reviews there!

  12. Hi

I'm of the opion that a lot of aging is caused my sun damage. I'm 30 and I've used Eucerin oil free moisturizer with spf 35 since i was 20 and I don't have a single line. I highly recommend it for preventing new lines. To get rid of the lines that have already started to appear i recommend oil of olay regenerist eye treatment. I was modeling for awile and i noticed akward lines under my eyes when i smiled and after using this for a month or so they disapeared, and i've used it religiously ever since.

  13. I'm in love with a new product from LaPrairie, Cellular Radiance. Besides feeling great, eyes looking great, my eye makeup lasts long, so it is not oily. La Prairie's Caviar line of eye creams are also great. The price is worth it, trust me.

  14. estee lauder's DayWear Plus multi protection anti-oxidant eye creme is pretty light and has spf 15. its not that pricey and you only need a little dab. i have really sensitive skin especially around my eyes and i love it.

another awesome products that alot of my salon/spa buddies SWEAR by is aveda's tourmaline charged eye cream. the entire tourmaline charged line is geared towards brightening/radiating skin as well as keeping skin line free and super youthful looking. highly recommend it.

  16. I'd be inclined to use one with a spf

I've been using clinque advanced stop signs eye preventive cream spf 15 for about 18 months and I think it does a good job. I have oily skin and it seem light enough to me.

  20. I work graveyard shifts, followed by a whole day of school til late afternoon/early evening. There are days every week that I go 24+ hours with no sleep.

That being said, thanks to Benefit's Eyecon, you could hardly tell this is my story.

  21. I love Clinique's all about eyes and repairwear creams. They are so light.

  22. Try Laura Mercier. Light but not too light, very moisturizing.

  23. I've used Benefit's Eyecon for about two years and love its texture. It's absorbed really easily and leaves the skin soft without any oily feeling or residue. It also helps with my dark circles. Love your blog :)

  24. I totally agree! Recently started using eye cream after I spotted some fine lines. I use Clarins Special Eye contour balm and my boyfriend noticed it immediately the first time I applied! I do not only see a difference (all the fine lines are gone) but the skin around my eyes got more supple and moisturised. Also my look is fresher and my make-up applies much easier and has a smoother finish.

  25. Hi there! I've also been big on eye moisturiser since I was 16. After 12 years, I found the ideal daytime moisturiser in Dermalogica Total Eye Care (spf 15), which I've now been using for five years. It goes on light but protects the delicate skin around your eyes from harmful rays. You can find Dermalogica products at several salons, just do an online search. Good luck!

  26. My dad is a dermatologist and he is always giving me things to try... from my experience, the absolute BEST eye cream (or anything, actually - they're amazing!) is from La Roche-Posay. It's a French brand and a bit pricey, but you can see results. I also have combination skin and can't use anything too heavy.

  30. I am using Skinceuticals Eye Renewal Gel and its working on my fine lines! Its an eye treatment though so you'll still need a moisturizer. I like Clinique's Moisture Surge.

  34. has anyone tried caudalie's eye contour cream? or what about Skyn's Icelandic Relief Eye Cream with Biospheric Complex?

They are both supposed to be all natural and gentle on the skin.

I can't decide between the two!

  36. My favorite eye cream is Perfective Ceuticals Anti-imperfection Eye Therapy Cream. It helps a lot with the under eye bags and fine lines. It is the kind of eye cream that once you bought it, you would go back and buy again... and again!

  37. Its best to look for sun protection while choosing an eye cream. The rays of the sun are one of the most harmful components of the environment and therefore the delicate skin around the eyes should be protected from the harmful UVA and UVB rays which can dry and damage the skin through a variety of means.
