Window Shopping at UK Urban Outfitters Online

Recently, I've been seeing a few dresses and stuff I want from the UK Urban Outfitters site. But seriously, why are the things there so expensive? I'm not saying they cost as much as Prada, but I can't get around to justifying the clothes for what UO is charging.
Take this Kimchi & Blue double layer tank top for instance, my sister got it last week in the States on sale for 15usd. And guess what? It's on sale in the UK too! Only, it's now down to 15pounds. Seriously. OK, so I understand rent and wages are much higher in the UK, but still! I just need to rant.

Here are the clothes I'm interested in:

I like that this Lux dress is simple, bright, young and seems good for day or night. And the braided neckline is a nice detail too. But I'm not sure about dishing out 45pounds (=85usd) for a jersey dress.

A fun, summer day dress by Free People. I'm imagining walking around in malls in this dress and sandals. I've got a dress that's got a similar cut and it's old so it needs to be replaced. But this dress, (which I can't even decide if I like the grey or pink version better,) costs 50pounds! Although the more I stare at the dress now, the more I'm not sure about the prints.

I love this dress by Religion. The top bit is made of elasticy cotton material, and I'm guessing the skirt bit is made of chiffon-like material. The dress has definite potential for fun nights out. It's 65pounds but the material and cutting looks pretty decent. Now I just have to find it in a shop to try it out. And I'm also really liking the feather necklace. (I think the model's got two on her in the photo.) So many things I want!

And then there are the graphic t-shirts. I know graphic tees are so 2005 but they seem like something I lack in my wardrobe. I especially love the grey Bon-Jour tee. But as usual, these tees are pricey -28pounds each! Seriously, aren't normal graphic tees like these like 28usd on the US site?

Since I seem to have no decision-making ability o shopping these days, what do you think? Which should I buy and which should I just leave?

PS. I wasn't bother to calculate the USD equivilant for all the prices above since I assume everyone has some idea about the current exchange rates.

  1. Those dresses are adorable! And I agree, that Bon-Jour shirt would be great for lazy days. :P $28 for a shirt like that is a bit pricey though.

I have that feather necklace, I bought it online, on sale for $9.99USD. It's now one of my favorite necklaces, ever.

  7. I really like that lux dress in blue, but I get the feeling you could find something very similar for a little less. Also, don't buy the sonic youth tee there, buy it from the band's website! Those shirts are a classic, I'm almost certain they still sell them themselves.

  8. I really think UO is more pricier than it should be. I find similar stuff in cheaper stores, like those LUX dresses, I saw some similar dress for less than $20 at forever 21. But the gray Free People dress is super cute! But yes I am not sure about the pound to usd conversion. How much is a pound to dollar?

  9. i really like the dresses by free people. very cute!

  10. It's 1 dollar to .51 pounds... so something that's 10 pounds is 20 bucks. I hate that fact, but it does make conversions very easy.

  11. UK UO?? A lot of times I'm outraged by the prices US UO charge!! That's why I only buy in that store if it's something I know I most likely wont find anywhere else. I bought a cute 20's style feather hat there recently. I also recently bought an "Obama for yo mama" tshirt there...$28 but it's too funny so I just had to buy it. I always get compliments on them so I know the money was worth it.

  12. Prices are becoming more expensive here, as well. A plain t-shirt is 28USD at Talbots now, a thin sweater is $98...

We're in a recession and stores have to compensate by making their prices go up. It doesn't just affect over here, but all over the world.

  13. Thes reminds me of the new gorgeous line of tees I recently purchased - I love solid colors too! And it is so true - most of us only wear 20% of our wardrobe - I knpw I have my favs, and the other 80% sits lonely in my closet..

I also read this pc about quality garments:

Bargain hunters often wonder why some people buy various expensive articles of clothing when they can purchase similar items at a lower cost. While I too sometimes opt for less expensive things, MOST of the time you get what you pay for.

So what is the difference between the white tee shirt at the Gap or a white tee shirt from Majestic. First and foremost is the fabric. I purchased a long sleeve cotton tee at the Gap last year and wore it no more than twice, while looking through my closet recently I noticed a small whole in the center of the garment. The bottom line is the fabric is simply poor quality. It was reasonably soft and it fit ok.

Then I have my Majestic tee shirts. The fabric is incredibly soft and luxurious. The fit is fantastic too. After washing them many times, they still maintain their shape and have no holes in the fabric or the seams. Additionally, the high-quality fabric doesn’t wrinkle.

This was just an easy example but this can be said for clothing across the board. You will find in higher quality garments have a better fit as well. More time is spent making them, better patterns are used, and there is more quality control. So while bargain shopping can be fun and I highly recommend it, keep this in mind when you are purchasing staples for your wardrobe or anything that you will want to keep for a long time.

So, be sure to grab one (or a few!) Majestic tees for yourself at - I got mine at artfulwears (site).

  15. I find UO way overpriced for its quality.

  16. heh, i'm willing to pay the extra money, it just infuriates me that the UK Urban Outfitters won't ship to America.

  17. I don't think their prices need to be quite so high, but then again, you don't want everyone wearing the same clothes as you now do you!

  18. Guess I'm lucky my other half seems to like to shop however, she always finds really good deals.
