Vuitton Clutches

The other day, my mom surprised me with a Vuitton clutch. She exclaimed over the phone, about how pretty it was, with gold trimming and a little wristlet thing. I was excited because I love clutches and she made it sound gorgeous. I was a bit skeptical though when I found out that it was white with multicolored prints all over it. But then she said that the color was just what I needed to go with all my very dark colored clothes. Mom's know best, right?
My first reaction upon seeing this picture was.......oh no. It seems that no matter how they package the white canvas with the multicolored logos they will always appear somewhat tacky and fake to me. It must be because the one and only fake Vuitton I ever bought was also of this print and thus I shall always associate it with being fake. The mutlicolor logo also looks... toy like. Adding the gold trimming to this combination just didn't help.

I do LOVE the shape and design of the clutch though. It's just so cute and perfectly sized. I don't understand why they would not produce this in any other pattern! Maybe it is some marketing plot by the masterminds at LVMH to make consumers buy this clutch anyway because of the style and then hope that the pattern will grow on them!
I would much prefer a Vuitton clutch like these Vernis clutches. They are colorful yet sophisticated and tasteful. They even have straps to transform it into a shoulder bag! Classic and versatile. I wouldn't mind the red or the purple!

But alas, the prices of these clutch aren't exactly the same (the Vernis is more expensive!). Maybe the white canvas multicolor logo print would grow on me..........what do you reckon?

  1. I just saw this clutch at the LV store today, and it's not bad. You'll have to be a little careful when wearing it to not look too... what's the word... like you're trying too hard?

I think it would look better with polished daytime looks than nighttime clutch-wear. For example, try a cream colored top with a shrunken white blazer and dark, crisp blue jeans with some heels. This clutch is definitely more mature, so try to stay away from "cutesy" outfits with it, otherwise it'll look "tacky and fake" as you said.

  2. Ugh, I hate the white and multi-coloured print and agree that it is rather tacky. Even if there weren't three gazillion fakes around I would still think it looked cheap, there's just something about it! It reminds me of wrapping paper!

The red patent on the other hand, that's gorgeous!

  3. I have to say I was never fond of logo prints, however the second picture you posted does actually look quite distinguished. The first one could never, ever grow on me... the bright logos? The white? The gold?

  4. I think I would have to agree with Closet Therapy, whilst the colourful monogram does have the tendency to look more "tacky and fake" I think it would also dependent on how you wear it. This pattern as a clutch does have the potential to look good paired with the right outfit, and that being the only designer item, well logo-ed, that you can see in your outfit.

I definately agree that the vernis clutch is more sophisticated and it's the perfect little bag for dressier summer days and it would also brighten up dreary winter days when the wardrobe is dominated by darker palettes.

Hope you have fun experimenting with the wristlet! Keep us informed of how that goes =)

  5. Jeez. I wish my mom would buy me a LV clutch...

  6. I agree with you, I much prefer the Vernis clutches because the colours are very classic but the style will not age!

  8. I enjoy skimming your blog from time to time, but I sure hope your mom doesn't...

  9. I think it looks cute! You should be thankful that your mom got it for you!

  10. i agree with closet therapy, you shouldn't look like you're trying to hard. more of a " oh, this old thing" kind of look. i think the problem with LV bags is the number of fakes, other than that, it's cute!

  11. you should just appreciate that you mum brought it for you. Not everybody's parents can do that.

  12. It's a very nice gift on her part, though I prefer the Vernis bags. I could never really warm up to the white logo bags, but I think it can be made to work. The shape is really cute.

  13. The fact is you may not use the one your mother gave you and just keep it because it was a gift. But I am sure your mother wants you to use it and got you that one becasue she saw you carrying something like it.

So return the it and get what you really like.

If you think that may upset your mother Use it because it really is cute.

  14. I think it will be great for spring and summer. Although to be really honest, multicolor is not exactly my favorite but it is a gift from your mom. Else, just be honest and exchange for one you really want. I really adore vernis at well. : )

  15. sorry, but i have to say that i hate the multicolored print. i also don't like the signature brown print very much because EVERYONE has it. i would say return the clutch and save up for a better one, but of course, that would be your choice. anyways, i enjoyed reading your blog. please link me if possible. thanks!

  16. the LV clutch does look a little on the fake side..

  17. I think it's ridiculous that people are saying that you should keep it and "appreciate" it just because it's an LV and "not everyone's parents can do that". I hate when people get economically bitter towards others on the Internet. I mean, really! Would you say stuff like that to strangers in person?

And anyways, what's the point of an expensive bag if you don't like it or won't use it? To be honest, I'm sure your mom would prefer that you have a bag you really love. I'd say return it and put the money towards saving for the Vernis clutch, if that's what you really like.

  18. The words, spoilt and ungrateful come to mind after reading that post.
To think that even after receiving a gift of such value and beauty, and that your mother was so happy to give you... you could still find something wrong with it?

It's sad to think that a classic Vuitton will go to waste on your wrist.

  19. i think just because it's a gift from mama doesn't automatically make it something you have to LOVE. but then again, i'd find it super hard to tell her i didn't like it.. =/ toughie. i must say, i am a biggg fan of the vernis line!

  20. I personally really love the multi-coloured LV, I think it is really stylish and cute. However, with that style, I much prefer the black multi-coloured style. It's more sophisticated and a bit less loud, if you know what I mean. I've always been a fan of LV.
The Vernis is so amazing I love it as well. I think I prefer the first one though.

  21. I completely agree with you. I think any monogrammed thing from LV is way too overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Allyson: yes i would say that to a stranger in person.
There are so many people in this world who have nothing and people like you dont know how to appreciate what they have got. It sickens me how people have everything handed to them in life. I agree with the other post 'The words, spoilt and ungrateful come to mind after reading that post'
    You dont deserve any LV

  23. Wow this clutch is amazing! The vernis clutches are great too but this is just perfect for summer don't you think?the vernis clutches are better for evening i think...but anyways i'm glad for you, i'm sure sooner or later you'll love your bag! p.s: i'm a huge fan of your blog!

  24. Who hasn't had this dilemma? If you don't think it would hurt your mom's feelings to exchange the bag, then I would. If it would upset her, though, perhaps it would be more important to make her happy than to be the epitome of style. Sometimes I have been given something and thought it wasn't really me or the right thing, but later it turns out to be perfect. We are so used to shopping for ourselves that it is difficult to accept something personal from someone else sometimes. Even if it embarrasses you, it might worth it to keep and use the bag. I am always touched by people that I see wearing something very unstylish that was obviously a gift from a child but they wear it with pride because of who it came from not what it is. <3

  25. I personally don't like that bag anymore because it was a huge thing to have at one point here in VA. EVERYONE AND their mothers (and sisters and aunts, and anyone else you can name, lol) had that bag or a knock-off of it. It's so sad that everyone is so focused on having the "it" bag and not a "fabulous" bag! And no my mom can't get me that LV bag either but there are soooo many others I would rather have that it doesnt even matter. I posted a blog showing some of my picks for cute clutches.
    Check it out!

  26. You're right, Jen, it is kind of bad. Scratch my previous comments and TAKE IT BACK !!!!!

  27. Wow, I am shocked at the attitude of some of these comments! What makes people feel so entitled? The anonymity of the internet does not make it *right* to be so rude and bitter. If you don't like what she's saying, stop reading. Simple as that.

Regarding the clutch.. I'm not a fan. I would definitely take it back and get something that is more to your tastes. Just explain it nicely to your mom- it was a thoughtful gift from her but I'm sure she would rather have you *use* a LV as opposed to just having it sit in your closet. And returning it does not make you ungrateful or spoiled! God, some people need to learn what those words really mean.

I've been reading your blog for 3 years now. It's one of my favorites and I check it everyday. I just wanted to say thanks for updating it so frequently. :)

  28. I think anything remotely elegant with those two letters LV one superimposed over the other written on it will sell like hotcakes and have a huge appeal! The brand is class symbol and for a good reason, the quality and design, both, are unmatched!

    ReplyDelete
  29. you can always use it as a pencil case or something?

  30. I've never really like the colorful logo on the white leather either - it looks tacky to me as well. In fact, I don't even like the classic handbags with the brown leather.
But. Those patent clutches definitely caught my eye - they are far more sophistocated and classy than that usual bags, and I have to say that they are gorgeous. Not to mention that I am a fan of patent clutches, too.

  31. I think you should return it for another bag, and I LOVE the vernis clutches! The multicolor trend is so 2 years ago now....and I didn't like it then either...sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i don't think this post is 'spoilt and ungrateful' at all. On the contrary, an LV clutch is so expensive that it's important that it is something you absolutely love, rather than effectively wasting the money..

and to be honest, i don't really like the clutch either..

  33. I actually love clutches myself! I've discovered some lovely Louboutin ones though, prefer those so much more than the LV ones. I've put them on my blog: http://bagnoa.wordpress.com

  34. those are actually all adorable, but i get what you mean about the multi colored ones. In a way, I think the bold patent leather ones are more daring than the regular multi colored logo style.

they are all nice though, its nice that your mom got you one.

  35. I'm not a fan of the colorful ones either. I actually can not stand the brown ones, especially the ones with flowers on it. I lost of my taste of LV, I'm into Marc Jacobs right now. I really like the purple one though, it's adorable.

  38. The vernis is beautiful, but is prone to color transfer (lighter vernis colors) and finger prints (darker colors like amarante). The vernis clutches are much better than your Kate but like others I think you should be grateful for a mom who randomly buys you LV!

  39. I like the red and Purple Clutches but the white one with the Multi colored patterns isnt my thing, I wonder if it will grow on me. I somehow dount that it will. It just seems a little over the top a little "look at me and my LV clutch!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is one of the few LV's I actually like, very sophisticated without looking overly flashy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the red Vernes clutch! It is perfect for any activity. If youpair it with black super skinny jeans and loose retro tee, and red high heels, it would be perfect for a night at the club. Whereas, if you paired it with a pencil skirt, a ruffled pink top, and a black pinstripe blazer (and some black pumps), it would be great for a business look!

  42. the LV monogrammed clutch is pretty cute! i noticed the colours of the pattern on real LVs is lighter or just very different colours from what you're used to. the fake ones have the usual standard colours. just my opinion. but i love the purple Vernis clutch just because i love purple. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with most people. the LV monogrammed clutch is cute but too ordinary. the vernis on the other hand stands out more because of the bold colors. but you should be happy that your mom spontaniously bought you this. Its nice of her.

  44. i think big clutches is the way to go this summer/fall. if you watched the SATC movie, you will see Carrie carrying a giant LV clutch towards the end of the movie paired with a short stunning dress and a Dior gladiator heels. Which looks absolutely breathtaking.

  45. Hmm, if I were you, I would take back to the LV store and pay the difference for their Vernis collection (which I am partial to) or Epi. I just detest the white monogram (sorry Murakami). Also, I see little girls in NYC (like 10 yrs old - jr high) carry real little monogram bags all the time.

I think your mom would understand if you said it was a bit juvenile and not as timeless-- she can't fault you for having more expensive (and better) taste :)

    Good luck!
