08 Trend: Braided Hair

Braided hair has been one of the most obvious beauty trends this year. People seem to have a love-hate relationship with it -some people think it's pretty and some think it's just too cutesy. For most part, I think braids is a cute way to add some girliness to ones hairstyle, but it really depends on how you do it and whether it suits the rest of your look.

The celebrity that has been sporting braids the most seems to be Lauren Conrad. And if you know Lauren's usual style (-very girly,) then you would probably agree that the braids really suit Lauren.
The basic way seems to be braiding the front bit of your hair and pull the briad to one side, and tie all your hair up into a pony tail. Look how well the braid goes with Lauren's style!
And she even manages to use the braid to glam up her whole hairstlye and look.
Nicole Richie uses the braids to complement her boho, LA style.
Then there's the braided up-do.
I have to admit I think this hairstyle really doesn't suit Gwen Stefani. It looks so complicated and just... weird on her.
I love the way Rachel wore the braid. She manages to wear the braid without looking overly girly, keeping her casual and trendy look.
Despite how cute I think the braid is, I still haven't tried it out yet. It's probably because I don't want to look like I'm 14, but mostly because it requires some effort to pull together (as opposed to doing nothing.) What do you think of the braid trend? Have you tried it?

  2. i really like this trend, its easy to do yourself and it adds a little bit of flavour to an otherwise boring look

  3. I actually do like braids a lot. But instead of doing it like Lauren or Rachel, I sometimes do all my hair in one simple braid on the side. I find it's a good alternative to a pony tail to keep my hair out of my face. My hair is very thin so I don't think that I could only braid the front of my hair because it would look funny.

  4. I did it quite often when my hair became really long and rather unflattering, actually. Pony tails were pretty much the only things I could do with it, and I added braids to make them more interesting.

If I wanted a thicker braid, I'd just make a French braid, framing my face, and then tie my hair up in a ponytail, incorporating the unbraided end of the braid into the ponytail to secure the braid.

If I wanted thin braids, I'd make a braid, starting by my ear, secure the ends with a clip or a hair tie (so i can get the rest of my hair into a pony tail), and then take out the clip and include the braid into the ponytail.

It pretty much ends up looking like LC's. Unintentionally, though, because I never even knew she did braids like that. Ugh, as if I'd ever look to her for styling inspiration.

Oh, and trust me, if done correctly, it doesn't look kiddish at all.

  5. I think braids can go one way or the other. They can make your hairstyle look more done-up & sophisticated or can make you look like a 5 year old schoolgirl. You have to do it right. I'll give it a go though! =D

  7. I wear them a lot. I went running with my dog yesterday with my hair done like that- which is great because it kept my hair off my face, then went out to an appointment to going to meet friends for drinks, all without having to redo my hair and getting loads of compliments on it, so I'm quite happy with the braid.

  9. i've worn braids for some time now and love them! they can range from sophisticated to cute, and a tiny braid at a random place from the side of your head can spice up any hair pull-back. it's also a nice hairstyle to pull when you don't have time to dry your hair or put all the product in it as it holds in whisps and tames random curls. very chic!

  10. Yeh I totally agree, I love the braid look. It's so convenient because you can just put it up and change your outfit for almost any occasion. Even when I'm wearing my favorite pair of jeans (from House De Lux in Manhattan- check them out sometime) I just put my hair up in a braid and it makes the whole outfit look cuter.

  11. Tried it in high school and like it. Now I'm 25 but still with a high school face. I like it on other people and think it's a really cute trend but it's not for me. It's hard enough trying to get people to take me seriously (someone asked me if the name on my credit card was my mom the other day! No, I replied. That's me. I'm an adult. He was a little red in the face)!

  13. I used to wear braids all the time because I played sports and it was easier to keep my hair from flying everywhere. But I do like the style. I don't think I will try it by myself because I can't do my own hair.

  14. Absolutely love the braid trend. It works really well for beach hair that you just don't have time to fix. Thanks for posting about this.

  18. I say leave braids to Heidi, and no I don't mean Montag.
I'm not really a fan at all, and seeing them sported in Lauren Conrad's hair makes me dislike them more.

  20. I love braids and am glad that they are becoming quite fashionable again.
Ok, so they are a bit girly and a little cutesy but so what - can't a girl try to recapture her youth again without a little sneering? ;-)
If only it was always that easy to look younger....

  23. I love braids. I don't necessarily wear them like Lauren et al. have done here (because it's unflattering to my wider face) but I think it looks cute on others.

How I wear braids: -With a deep side part, and the braid off to one side very low (I have very long hair so this works); cuter than a simple ponytail, easier to manage than a side ponytail.
    - With my hair down and somewhat wavy, with a small braid in the middle of my hair down one end. I french braid the top half so it doesn't stick out from my head. I have very dark hair, so I think this adds a little more texture, and whenever someone notices it I get tons of compliments.
    - 2 braids, pigtail-style. It's so comfy and easy to keep out of my face, I wear this to the beach and swimming so my hair is manageable and wavy afterwards. Sometimes I add a little twist to this style (no pun intended) by twisting my hair around itself on each side of my head, instead of braiding them. It's a little complicated but it's a fun take on braids. OK this has been very long, sorry for that.
BTW, I just want to mention that I'm still in high school but look older than I am, so I don't really worry about the hair looking too young for me.

  24. I think that braided hair makes you look like a little girl. On the other hand love braiding because It's so long and its ok if people think I am a little younger cause you should care what people think of it.

  25. I am loving this trend! It looks cool and leave your face free from the hair that falls to it, must be great when needing to feel and to look nice at the same time. Also, it would be perfect for one of those bad hair days we sometimes have.

"I really like this hairtrend, and it's a great help on a bad hair day! Next thing on my list to try is the herringbone-braiding.."

Hair braiding is here to stay and is always a great help on a bad hair day. But If you were to try the herringbone-braiding-be really careful because your hair could get very tangled. The you will need the Take Down Removal system to undo the herringbone!
