Prada F/W08 Ad Campaign

The theme of this season's ads for a few major brands seems to be to feature supermodels -the real kind of supermodel from the 90's. Well, Prada got Linda Evangelista. OK, so I have to admit that I don't really know how to appreciate most supermodels' sort of beauty. I mean, yes, of course they are all gorgeous. But when they were at the top of their careers, I was too young to notice these things so I'm not exactly a fan of the whole supermodel movement. However, from the old photos I've seen of Linda Evangelista, I remember thinking she was the most gorgeous one out of the group, yet she doesn't look her usual gorgeous self in this ad campaign.
And ok, Sasha Pivovarova is admittedly one of my favourite models but I am not one of those fans who think she should get every Prada campaign until the end of time. Plus, the whole lace thing is so hard to pull off and frankly, sort of aiming for an older audience so a more traditional, mature model is probably more suitable. But seriously, Linda Evangelista does not exactly look tradiational to me here -her face looks weird. Maybe it's just whatever anti-aging treatment she's done and the mono shape of her lips.
But I suppose it's not a completely horrible campaign -the colour of the background and the shadows in the images are very cool.
How do you rate the F/W08 Prada ad campaign?

  1. I don't know. The ad campaign is way too oldish for me. Nothing completely amazing. I hate the shadows!! And Linda Evangelista has the same face, or at least her mouth is open the same in each of the photos you showed. Also, on each of these photos, she is always placed on the right if you get what I'm saying. Not enough variety for me.

BUT.. the heels in the first pic and shadow of the last pic are to die for! :)

  2. I agree, Linda Evangelistas face looks the same in every picture. The ads are slightly boring in my POV. xox

  3. The clothing is neat...but displayed for a more mature audience? all i can think is old heiress. and the model's face reminds me of uma thurman in gatica or whatever that movie was. she looks...plastic-ey?

  7. The pictures are quite sleek, but the poses are unnatural, this is what strikes me as odd.

  10. I am all for old fashioned glamour, but those poses seem far too stiff and unnatural for my liking.

  11. I just don't see supermodel here. I don't know...The way she poses seems a little awkward and the colors aren't really pleasing. I just don't like it. I do like the shadows in blue in the background. I just don't get the actual model and her clothes.

  13. IN some of the pictures, it kind of looks like she's trying to hold back a sneeze? I like the photos, but her face definitely looks a bit... off.

  14. Well, i agree with the most of you: Linda looks very artificial, but the kind of 60´s clothes and the back makes it superb

  15. The blue is too sad and Linda looks too lonely.

  16. What's funny is that I looked at the pictures and decided if I liked the ads before I read your commentary and I was like "wow this is really intersting. I love her facial expressions.... But I bet she is not going to like it."

I think it's quite interesing. Her facial expressions are different and not the usual looks with the pouty lips. Idk, i like it.

  17. I think the ad does target the mature audience.

  18. The campaign is very remnant of the Dior campaign a couple of years back.

Definitely more for the more mature audience, but that's the direction Prada seems to be going these days...

  19. I think it's the second worst campaign I've seen this year. The worst I've seen is Catherine Zeta Jones for Elizabeth Arden's Mediterranean Breeze perfume. (this is the best picture i could find of it on the net) http://shop.elizabetharden.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3023015&cp=3041794.3041796

I was flipping through the Aussie Cosmopolitan and couldn't believe they chose that particular photo. With her nose upturned and clothed in pink they made her look like a PIG!

  21. A propos the age thing - that it'd be more sensible to have an older model showing this 'more mature' collection - I totally agree with you, and but it just isn't going to happen. You'd think it'd be more effective to actually have the house's target group represented in their ads, but throwing the phrase 'older model' at an advertiser is like flicking holy water at a witch. Too bad!

  22. i wish the "supermodel movement" of decades past would just stay dead. i much more like the new models, sasha, coco, stam, toni garrn

  23. Who said she used botox?
Nonsense! It would make her look fat!
    ...
Everything theese days looks like I've seen it somewhere before. It's so hard to come up with something good.

  24. The second picture, gosh even she gets older...

  25. She does look a bit stiff especially in the pic where she is lying down, but some of the other images of the campaign are much better (at prada.com). Its refreshing that prada went for an older model, generally they often go for really young girls and have been pushing the pubescent beauty bit for ages.... anyways, i think linda's great though she's not at her best here.

  26. I really like the collection, but this add is boring i think. Linda Evangelista wasn't a good choice.

  27. She doesn't fit in this Prada campaign... Her projection isn't that good although th collection was good... Maybe they should find another one...
