Claudine Pumps by Coach

My first reaction upon seeing this season's peep-toe winter booties was EW. That is just unnatural, completely against the laws and purpose of boots! Your toes will definitely freeze off if you wear this in winter! And so when I first saw these Coach Claudine pumps, I immediately put a no to it. Why would they ruin a perfectly nice pair of pumps and put a random peep-toe on it? I wasn't even swayed when I saw my favourite Gossip Girl, B, wearing them on the set. To be honest, this is not one of her best outfits. To begin with it doesn't look very flattering on her. Her waist looks big (even though it's belted) and the length of her skirt makes her look short (or is it this picture?). Her top looks summery while her scarf and skirt looks wintery. The shoes is just the child of both these looks.

But then I stared at the picture of these pumps some more and it really started to grow on me. The masculine Oxford style is made softened by the satin bow and the slim and elegant shape of the heel. The mini platform in the front makes these four inch pumps more comfortable and wearable (or so I hope!). The combination of suede, satin and patent leather is very clever. The patent is even neatly placed to wrap around the suede parts to protect it from dirt! The whole package is just very nice!

As for the peep toe,
I guess in the world of fashion, there is no such thing as being weather appropriate. I can always wear colored stockings inside for warmth and some interesting color. And if you try to imagine these pumps without the peep toes, you must admit, it IS missing out something. Besides, it looks like peep-toe oxford booties are here to stay, judging from the S/S 09 Burberry Prorsum runway.

When it comes down to it, these are definitely trend shoes and not "investment" shoes. Personally, even though I'm coming around to it, I'm still not sure if they're not too weird for wear. What do you think? Is this an embraceable trend or should we shun it aside and hope it goes away?

  2. You can wear thick stockings, or long socks with those shoes. I think they're very cute and fashionable.

  4. I would have to agree with you as well. They are not my style but like becks29 said you can wear long socks or thick stocking to keep your feet warm during the winter.

  5. LOVE the shoes, and I agree 100%, that outfit is HORRIBLE, especially the top. It does not go with the skirt AT ALL.

  6. FUG. They are not nice, the peeptoe ruins the shoe entirely. They'd be quite nice without it.

And yes, Blair's outfit is ALSO fug.

Who fault? Shouldn’t we take this opportunity to tune back the incorrect system, or we will wait till the next few generations to meet the similar issues again…..?

Should the top management bare responsibility....?

The top management of the ( not private company ) listed company salary should be tied a portion of it to the shares.... so when the shares price drop, it don't just penalize the investors, but those who don't take care of the company.....

They only talk about how bad the crsis will be, but they did not give regulation measures…..

Since the congress is discussing….. Shouldn’t we concern about its individual congress members standpoint and their opposition candidates standpoint within their own states…….

  8. practicality > weird random trend that MIGHT look nice after you stare at it for a few hours

    'nuff said.

  9. They grow on you after a while, but in the country where i live, the winter is cold and a there is a lot of snow. So that means uggs for me, even if everybody on the block has them. But back to the shoes, its a trend, and some will embrace and some wont..and B, i love her style, but that outfit is ugly and not flattering at all, and miss matching!

  11. i don't mind peep toe boot since i live in california but that pair by coach is not calling out to me.

  12. Those are really cute. I agree, they grow on you. I'm not a fan of the peep toe, but...those are really cute.

  14. Those shoes are awful

  15. I love peep-toe oxfords, but I don't think the coach pumps are nicely executed. I think instead of making the shoes look more delicate, the ribbon makes it look cheap. But then again, I always think patent-shiny things look cheap.

btw, I love your blog :D

  16. I thought the peep-toe ankleboot was unequivocally fug until I saw this oxford version. I can't believe I'm coming round to the idea... But you have to admit they'd be pretty goddamn cute with grey woolly tights. And all the best fashion looks weird at first. Fab!

  17. Totally agree with u. There's just something weird about chopping off the front of perfectly cute shoes. They're definitely trend items, not something you can envision yourself wearing years down the road. So I'd say, chuck them!

I'm glad I stumbled on your blog, by the way.

  25. I LOVE them, on the west coast we can wear peep toe all year as well as with knee socks or tights (maybe even a bright color). These will be great with flare leg pants, dress pants, jeans, pencil skirts...i'm in love!!!

  26. i so agree with your comment about Blair and Serena fashion choice for gossip girl but i have to say i would love to have their wardrobe!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Everyone wears a peep toe here in New York, as they are seasonal, women wear them with short skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. WOW, I really like them!

I'll just buy them a little big and wear thicker socks, cold-ness-problem solved. =D

    I'm a boots addict. <3

    Weird.

  32. Actually my first reaction to the bootie trend was glee :) They look great - not overly sexy; more like school-girl sweet.

Excellent blog. You're one of the few fashion-bloggers who actually knows what they are talking about.

Very much agree with the quote by V. Westwood, by the way.

  36. That slight crisp in the air this morning signals to us that autumn is fast approaching, with its hayrides and pumpkin picking and legion of miserable children tromping off to their imagined doom. But also it means television, sweet and glorious.

  38. I love the oxford shoes so very much!!
The peep toe is kinda interesting but I personally think that for fall and spring it is perfect. Winter is kinda tricky to wear it but I think anybody that has style can so pull it off!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Okay, I'll start with the shoes...I don't hate them...But generally I am not a fan of the peep toe's appearance on anything but a pump. The knee high boot versions are especially awful.

While I do think the Coach shoe is a more understated approach, I think the it would have been so much cuter, and still stylish, without the peep toe.

I do like when accessories are used to mix seasons though. As a midwestern girl, fall is a tough, so this can be a great way to utilize your summer wardrobe well into fall.

I just actually did a post on my blog about how to turn a summer dress into a fall one. Hopefully I was more successful than B from Gossip Girls! Not a good look for her...

  40. I'm constantly infatuated by B's clothes!!

  42. love this shoe super hot

  43. I don't think they're unpractical. I have a pair of slingback peep-toe oxfords and I already wore them to death. I wouldn't wear them in winter though, that doesn't make sense. They are perfectly weather-appropriate for warm days spent in air-conditioned office.

  44. leighton Meester also surprise us with her classy upper east side look and her head accessories in Gossip girl! Except her ribbon headband, I love this Coach hat on her! Unlike those mini plaid school shirts, I like that green and gray oversized high waisted plaid skirt by L.A.M.B! The outfit was so standout and elegant!
