Hairstyle Trends Spring/Summer 2005 II: Braids

Another major hairstyle trend this season is the braid. If you read fashion magazines often enough, then you will probably thinking, aren't braids claimed to be 'in' all the time? Well, like many other trends, braids can be styled differently and look very different with different complimentary fashion.

This season, the braids come in two main styles: one that is Swiss influenced and another that is for the hobo Amazon look. Main fashion houses campaigning this look are Moschino and Galliano.

Moschino. All the models were wearing this hairstyle in the Moschino catwalk, (sometimes topped with a cute hat.)

Moschino. One of the key to this look is DON'T be too neat!
Tips from hair genius David Cruz:
"Draw a messy center part and make a braid behind each ear. Cross both plaits over your head and secure them with bobby pins. Set with hairspray."

Ashley Olsen attending the recent Zac Posen fashion show in NY. You will notice that her hair, while messy enough to be chic, still remains her normal elegant style.

Galliano. The Galliano take on braids is the boho Amazon look. Make a few random thin braids and tie them in a seemingly messy direction.

Galliano. The Galliano look is more wild, fun and youthful -just the typical crazy Galliano fashion you can always count on.

  1. I am extremely inspired by this article. And so I tried to create the two braids and binding it together myself. Unfortunately, I lack styling skills and the look is not as easily achieved as I thought. But alas, I will keep on trying. I can only get better right?

  2. I love the Swiss-inspired braids (I've been using this heaistyle since my days at university). The perfect look is not easy to achieve, but I think that weavy or slightly curly hair can help to achieve it (the braids are much more thick and stay at their place if the hair is curly and not straight). You just have to keep trying!

  5. Is it just me, or is the makeup on the model in the last picture somewhat...um...unusual? Are we to be applying blush to our earlobes now?

  7. Hair also a jacket or accessories.
I think dye the hair matching the fashion.
If the pants is orange, dye the hair in the same color.
It will be a big business.

  10. Good post indeed. And your suggestion and views about hair style are great. A better hair style is which do not cuase problem like hair loss etc. Perhaps you would be amzed to read this, how hair style causes hair style. But many hair orgs which provide info abut hair loss treatment say that
Certain hairstyles can contribute to hair loss, most notably styles involving tight braids or pull-backs. This form of hair loss is called traction alopecia. This occurs when the hair is pulled tightly back and fastened at the base of the skull, or braided into tight braids or rows. Exposure to this type of hairstyle over long periods can result in a scarring alopecia, with no potential for regrowth.

  11. 2005 promised to be a year of various different styles. Whether its wavy textured hair or the tousled feminine look, you can look to celebrities for new trends. You can opt for pin curls and waves a la Christina Aguilera. A good hairstylist can copy the retro style for you. You can try out pinning the curls in different ways to suit your prom dress and style. This hairstyle is making waves on the ramps of fashion shows too. 2005 hairstyles were oriented towards long bouncy and glamorous hair. Check out Angelina Jolie at the Golden Globes night and you will see the cascading voluminous locks. Popular celebrity hairstyles that are followed by millions include Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. For the spring of 2005, soft highlights would still be in vogue. A great hairstyle when complemented with subtle highlights can lend you a classy and trendy look. A flat iron can give you the sleek and smooth hairstyle that never goes out of style.

  18. I do it twice a week now (every time I wash my hair that is :) Whenever I have 2 hours to spare – I’d just put the rolls into my hair and would do things around the house – cleaning, or working, or watching TV… That’s what so great about it, you are not glued to that hair straightener or hair curler for a good hour or so :)

  21. Precision cut bobs are huge this year, coupled with smooth, sleek styling, a blunt fringe and heaps of shine. Your bob should be carefully crafted to accentuate your unique facial structure, or highlight a long, beautiful neck.

Bob hair styles range from ear level to shoulder skimming and are best for straight or slightly wavy hair.

  24. The Cleomenean War was fought by Sparta and its ally, Elis, against the Achaean League and Macedon. The war ended in a Macedonian and Achaean victory. In 235 BC, Cleomenes III ascended the throne of Sparta and began a program of reform aimed at restoring traditional Spartan discipline while weakening the influence of the ephors. When, in 229 BC, the ephors sent Cleomenes to seize a town on the border with Megalopolis, the Achaeans declared war. Cleomenes responded by ravaging Achaea.
