The Natural Look

I've always been into the natural look, you know, that made-up-natural-look that has been the trend in recent years (-or at least as long as I've paid attention to fashion and beauty anyways.) And I've always been excellent at applying this look, mainly because I always under-apply the makeup and think that I've applied too much, and also because it's actually quite hard to over-apply natural-coloured products. Just yesterday, my colleagues asked whether I actually had makeup on. So either I looked really worn out, or I am indeed an expert at the natural makeup look. I'll assume I'm the latter, naturally.

First I apply the oil free tinted moisturiser by Laura Mercier. It's excellent at making one's skin tone look even and it's seriously easy to apply -just use a tiny bit and use your fingers to spread a very thin layer on your face.

Then I apply blush. I usually use MAC's Pinch'O'Peach, which is a pale, orangey, mocha colour. But last Sunday, I just bought a blush named Well Dressed, which is pale pink. It really gives me the natural, prettily-blushed look.

Then I curl my lashes with my underused Shu Uemura eyelash curler. (But I'm way too lazy to apply mascara, or rather, to remove the mascara at the end of the night. Plus mascara makes my whole look feel made-up.)

Lastly, if I'm in a very good mood and have time left before leaving, I apply a teeny tiny bit of this brownish brown eye pencil (MAC's Bountiful Brown) on the outer eyelines (upper and lower eyelines).

All this takes me around 5 mintues. What is your daily makeup?

I have a sort of light-medium skin tone (super-light tan) and I just love MAC's blush in Coppertone for my skin. It looks like I'm blushing! (in a good way)

instead of not applying mascara at all, try using brown mascara or trannsparent mascara: it makes big big difference. u just look a lot more awake!

^ Yeah, clear mascara works wonders for me.

Also you should try using a gray color eyeliner, I use an Estee Lauder pencil in Slate Writer. It's the perfect color for looking natural because it's not as dark as black and I never look great in brown.

I have really fair skin so anything besides the "natural" look ends up looking really fake and tacky on me. I use Clinque pressed powder cover up and blush, which I love.

great blog.
just started mine, promise to get a bit serious about it soon enough, probably tomorrow night.
my make-up at the moment is at a minimum. i believe in summer as the best time of the year to look natural. make-up has nothing to do with going to the beach, doing sports, etc... tip of the day is some courage with the eye shadow. take your chance and use a bit of color. yellow is the big favorite. it doesn't stick out too much and gives a wonderful shimmer in the sunshine. otherwise, be careful. try to get a light tan. that's cooler than the foundation and rouge and everything else.

what do you think of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser?

i've been looking for a moisturiser (that isn't greasy/doesn't clog pores)and I tried Benfit's Rebel as well.
It's okay.

For me, the key to the natural look is grooming, once you maintain your eyebrows and look after your skin in terms of cleansing toning and moisturising then the natural look will help to enhance your great skin.

My routine is similar to yours but I use a little bit of clinique transluscent powder and some bronzer before I apply blush. Like you, I don't wear mascara everyday (I think that removing it every night must be bad for the delicate skin around your eyes, even with the best remover).

I hadn't thought of using pencil around the eye for day time and I tried it (in brown like you said) this morning and it made a huge difference!!

Sonia Kashuk has a pretty decent line of makeup at Target stores in the US. I love her concealer!

Also love clear mascara, it curles your lashes and you don't have to worry about applying it oh so carefully.

Hooray for girls who wear makeup tastefully & sweetly.

Bare minerals, mac bronzer, brown telescopic mascara [l'oreal? I think], light lip gloss.

Natural look sure does take a lot of work...

I usually use Bareminerals Foundation (with spf, of course) in Fairly Light, then brush a coat of the Mineral Veil on top of that. There's this thing called 'warmth' that Bareminerals sells, which is like this combination blush/bronzer. I use the TEENIEST bit, just enough to give myself a little glow. Then I either go completely natural on the eyes, or just use a little mascara and pale, shimmery shadow (my favorites are a soft lilac and a light pink.) Every so often, in place of the shadow, I'll use just a little eyeliner. I love using purple or grey because they're kind of unexpected but they compliment my hazel eyes really well.
To finish it up, I use a sheer red/pink lip.

Agh! You're right, Randelle, natural sure DOES take a lot of work!!!!!

BareMinerals in Medium Beige, warmth over that. If I'm feeling washed out, maybe a bit of blush, usually Glee, by the same, or mosaic pink from Victoria's Secret. On my eyes, the teeniest bit of brown eyeliner, and the teeniest bit of mascara - because otherwise I look half asleep. If my eyes need brightening that day, a shimmery vanilla color all over. Then usually just chapstick.

what shade of laura mercier tinted moisturizer do you use, if you don't mind me asking? i have been considering ordering it online, but not sure on the color.

thanks,

Mee s.- I use the second lightest colour (can't remember the name.)

Randelle -Haha yes. The natural look takes more work than it really should.

And it seems like Bare Minerals is a popular choice. I started using BM too but I want to finish off my tube of LM tinted moisturiser first.

I go for the natural look too, but I work in an office so I do it up a little more. I opt for super-sheer foundation (YSL Perfect Touch Radiant Brush foundation) and sheer blush gel (Stila). I also use eyeliner and a touch of Imju mascara, which is lengthening but not thickening. Sometimes I use eyeshadow (Maya by Fresh) but most of the time no. Finish with Smashbox silk loose powder. Done in 20 minutes :)

my routine is quite much the same. first Oil-Free Foundation , then Cheek Color. And then mascara. and lipbalm. (all from The Body Shop) . I easily look like I wouldn't have any makeup on me.

^^I didn't know Body Shop had oil-free make-up.. Recently i had a skin problem and I'm not supposed to use cosmetics for a while, and I'm getting used to it. I wouldn't leave the house without foundation but right now I'm very happy to never wear make-up! I only wear clinique high impact mascara, sometimes a very thin line of eyeliner(as clorse as possible to my lashes), I use my clinique super-balanced foundation for my under-eyes, I totally ditched concealer. Strawberry chapstick, and a light tan :)

I tried out the laura mercier at the department store, but I wasn't nearly as impressed with it as the blog. I do have smooth skin but I don't have even skin tone. It does work well on those who just need a little boost but doesn't offer the same coverage as some other products.

i use stila's tinted moisturizer, physician's formula spf 20 bronzer poweder, smashbox o-glow, andburt's bees tinted lip balm. I do put on brown mascara usually, just because I have teeny, weeny, itsy-bitsy eyelashes.

I adore the Body Shop's make-up line. It is high quality, cheap, and they do not test on animals. I go for the natural look as well. A little blush, lip gloss, mascara, and a touch of bronzer because I am so pale. They have the best bronzing line. To shop go to

Everything I use is Clinique. I can't help it... it's what my mom uses and so it's what I started out using... I just never evolved I guess. Haha :)

Anyways, Basically I use a oil free foundation from Clinique in Light. And then I use a loose powder from Clinique. Then I swipe on a bit of mascara. My eyes are what I really like to make stand out... (def considering the eyelash perming thing) because I have really long lashes but their straighter then a board!

Anyways thats my whole routine! Done in 5 minutes... if that :)
