Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

No matter your age, style or whether you love or hate it, the latest Harry Potter movie is just something everyone must see. From all reviews, it is supposedly THE best Harry Potter movie so thus far-so I was psyched. Many lame movie trailers later, the movie finally began.

And I must say, it wasn't exactly as mind-shatteringly-good as everyone hyped it up to be. I found everything a bit abrupt. One minute they were at the Quidditch World Cup and the next the 2 schools participating in the Triwizard Tournament was arriving. How does that work? I understand that its hard to fit a 700 page book into a 2 hour movie, but it just didn't flow very well.

I also found that many things just didn't fit what I had in mind when reading the book. Take Fleur Delacour for example. She is supposed to be minding-stoppingly beautiful and gorgeous. But I'm sorry, does she look mind-stoppingly beautiful here to you? And what is with their entrance, where the group of girls did this really lame "sighing" thing as they walked into the hall???

Then there was Professor Dumbledore. He continues to not live up to my idea of Dumbledore. He's too skinny. Not stately enough. And well. . too ALIVE. Dumbledore (in my head anyway) is supposed to look like he should be dead, but because he's so amazing, isn't dead. And he's supposed to be calm and the answer to all problems. His anger, confusion and helplessness when Harry was chosen as one of the triwizards just did not work.

Then there was Hermione's transformation for the dance. She's supposed to be so transformed that no one even recognizes her! But obviously we all recognize her as the Hermione we know except with her hair up and in a dress. A dress which by the way is way too frilly. And isn't it weird that suddenly she's accepting a drink from Viktor and then she is screaming at Ron and Harry and crying? She's also not a very good actress. Some bits the expression just blatantly did not match the context. Like when she said, "Boys. . " Also note that her date, Viktor Krum her supposedly amazingly hot quidditch player date is not so hot. .

In fact, now that Oliver Wood has graduated, the only good looking guy on the show- Cedric Diggory- is not even that hot!He has like a weirdly blotchy complexion. AND he dies. So I guess we won't be seeing him again. . .

Other points of interest of a more fashion nature. Cho Chang actually looked really nice at the dance. Her outfit and whole look was very elegantly put together. A little reminscent of Ziyi Zhang.

And entirely random and out of context. This is not a very good picture. But if you've seen the movie, don't you think that the Madame Maxime portrayed in the movie looks like our ever so fashionable Anna Wintour?? Something to do with her bob and style.

Overall though, it was a very satisfying Harry Potter movie and totally worth the wait!

OMG, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I saw a special on A&E and I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said, So true. I think a bit of helpful advice, which always proves to be correct: if the book is amazing such as the HP books are,the movie won't be able to come close to the gratifying effect that one gets by reading. Also your comment on Fleur was DEAD ON, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I was looking forward to seeing how her character would look, and was so disappointed, as I was with Cedric. Sigh...oh well. Had they used American actors perhaps...but then it wouldn't have been true to form.

I´ve seen Madame Maxime on the picture and the first thing I thought was "Anna Wintour"! I think it´s the second quotation of her person in a movie.

I'm in total agreement with your assesment! I was really expecting A LOT from this movie and to say it fell short of my expectations is putting it mildly.

However, I watched it again and tried to appreciate it without constantly referencing my knowledge of GoF.

What really got me annoyed were 3 things: 1) despite the CG, the 1st task was just...wrong. Why the heck did it even leave the arena? 2) Dumbledore aka M. Gambon just could not settle on an accent. And yeah, to me, Richard Harris was the only TRUE Dumbledore. 3) E.Watson as Hermione - didn't she grossly overact? In some scenes(Hermione explaining to Fred and George why they can't get fool the Age-Line comes to mind) it was kinda sad to watch such acting. Was it intentional?

Speaking of the twins, for me? They TOTALLY were the humour factor in the show. I loved every bit of time they were on screen. I mean, c'mon, even the ferret scene wasn't too funny.

Other than falling short of VERY high expectations, the film had FANTASTIC graphics and some good costumes so it was pretty ok.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but when I saw the pictures when they were released, I was like what? Fleur is so NOT ming-numblingly gorgeous. And Victor Klum def doesn't look hot.

lalalabom: why would you think fleur would look like paris hilton, who is so NOT HOT?! ew!!!
fleur could have been played by keira knightley or kristin kreuk or gemma ward or lindsay lohan...i dunno, just someone who lights up the screen or sthg!

Wow i todally agree with every thing you said. I always thought that Fleur would bee drop dead pretty but in the movie she is average and her forced accent was horrable i want her to stop talking.
The actore who played Krum didnt look anything like he should have(like his thick unbrow) and he said like 3 line in the whole movie.
DD was way way to emotional he is suppose to be calm and supprese his emotions.
And i dont even want to start on cedric.
Then there was hermione. her acting was way over the top she put to much emotion on every thing it was like come on. And her dress was suppose to be pale BLUE not pink.
Then there was how it swicked from one thing to the onther in a matter of seconds. Then the end left people who hadnt read the book hanging.
Not comparing it to a book it was a rather good movie(nice graphic) but if you are it was disappointing.

Actually, Krum was described as caveman-like in the books, likely because of Ron's influencing voice in them. The unibrow comment is also made by Ron about Krum - the comment never made it into the movie, but the costume was certainly affected by it. I don't understand. He's not supposed to be handsome (maybe vaguely); he's supposed to be famous and a good player.

There is no "L" in Krum. Wtf, everyone? It spelled it out for you in the movie, at every task and at the Quidditch World Cup. Nice. VIKTOR KRUM.

I agree about Fleur Delacour - she was supposed to be part-Veela, which they never explained at all. It wasn't vital to the plot, I suppose. I am glad that she spoke some French, though. She also is supposed to have white-blond hair, so Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightley for choices are automatically out. (Fleur has NO FRECKLES, kthx.) Paris Hilton doesn't appear to be seventeen nor does she appear to be a private school withc.

Also, Harry's first task was supposed to leave the arena, although they CLEARLY overdid it.

They did miss a lot of things from the books: Winky and Dobby, Harry being accused, Rita Skeeter being captured by Hermione as a beetle in order for her to be blackmailed into Harry's bidding for the next book, Divinations...

poor fleur! i think the difference was basically that in a book, you can imagine a 'perfect goddess fantasy beauty' but a movie is just ... a movie.
i assume anon was joking about the american actors bit!! :0

I agree with everything you've said. Especially since they got that new guy to play Dumbledore, he's been ruining the character. Emma W as Hermione, I never got why she was so emotional. *rolls eyes* Fleur.. hmph, what can I say about her? I, personally, don`t think she was s'posed to look absolutely gorgeous but since she's veela, all the boys were s'posed to think so.

For Krum, I was definetly waiting for him to say "Hermy-own-ninny" (sp?). When he didn't say that, I was very disappointed. I don't even get why they change directors each movie. I think Christopher Columbus was the director that stuck to the plot, mostly.

I was also very disappointed at the Quidditch World Cup. I mean, I can't believe that Bagman wasn't even in the scene let alone the whole movie. *shakes head*

Do love the graphics though.

You have all lost the plot, the movie was not perfect but I enjoyed every part of it. And btw I thought Viktor Krum was quite sexy in a bulgarian way...big and strong etc. When has anyone seen a movie that is exactly like a book. A book is open to interpretation by the imagination of the reader and in the movie's case subject to the mind of the director. I loved the movie and can't wait for the next. It is an english movie and not fake american movies...the people are engligh and authentic, Krum is bulgarian and therefore authentic. Anyway, I know you will all disagree with me, but I truly enjoyed it.

I tot Madame Maxime was modelled after Anna W too! Too bad Cedric died :(

The movie wasn't as good as I had expected. It felt like they were trying to include as many scenes as possible.

The supporting casts (other students) were so so only.

i actually think the person who played Fleur is very pretty. The character is supposed to be part veela or whatever, and the actress totally has that elfish quality to her face. she kinda looks like erin wasson in that pic.

Hmm..... I don't think that I agree with you at all!!! All you did was Critisize the movie and you weren't even constructive!!! I think maybe if you're going to watch the movie f just so you can write horrible things about then maybe you shouldn't write things at all. It was an AWESOME movie. My fave ever.

I thought this movie was great! Fleur is very pretty and has a mysterious quality about her, which I think was a lot of the charm of the veela in the book. Besides, everyone will have a different opinion of "drop dead gorgeous". I think paris hilton is hideous, for example.

Michael Gambon is awesome as Dumbledore. He has to be "alive" to fight later and deal with everything. And all this stuff starts to catch up with him, as we see in the next few books, so they began a good transition in the movie. He's very complex, and that comes through in the movies.

Also. Katie Leung is sooo super adorable! She has the sweetest Scottish accent! I think she's from Glasgow... that's how a lot of people talk there. I can't wait to see her and Harry have awkward love-y scenes in the next one hehehe.

Anyways, I thought it was well done.
