Rock the Black Blazer

I love love love blazers. My very first staple outerwear was a black blazer. Although I now realise it was a bit too big on me, my love for blazers never died. I now own other blazers, like a washed-out yellow one and a purple velvet one. But the one I really want is THE perfect black blazer, so I'm on a hunt.

Meanwhile, I thought I would share my recent favourite way to wear it. Actually, it was the only outfit I wore during my last Christmas holidays: Skinny/straight leg jeans, a flowy long top with a blazer. It's simple yet looks so cool (love Sienna's outfit here). The blazer adds structure to the not-so-structured flowy top. And if you only wear black, grey and white, then you achieve a rock chick look like Lindsay here.

Blazers are also great for casual outfits, (for some reasons, people seem to be stuck with the idea that blazers are formal,) which is why I love it when Ashley wears it. Here are a few styling ideas from Ashley's outfits: you can try rolling up the sleeves and adding a colourful scarf to make the outfit look more casual (and warm). Blue jeans will of course, get you the more casual look, but black jeans feel cooler and edgier.

OK, I should stop blabbering about how much I love blazers and spend more time looking for my perfect black one, (or ideally many many ones).

Except it's too hot in most places to wear anything but a shirt or dress on top.

I know exactly what you're talking about! I love fitted blazers. I am looking also. I am considering just getting one from Forever 21 and just getting it fitted. The fit is the most important factor for me.

Agreed! Everyone should have a few versatile blazers in their closet. I have a tweed one that always gets me compliments and now I want one in navy or black. They are perfect spring/fall staples.

It's great to see this fashion classic hasn't lost it's charm. When you can find one with a good price you should grab it!

...its less a 'blazer' and more a tuxedo jacket (fitted, short, with a bit of sheen)... the look can also be seen on kate moss.
Zara has some cute ones now, H&M is 'Hit or Miss'
a great look, for sure...happy hunting!

This entry inspired me to go get a blazer today! I stumbled upon a few white ones but I always worry they might yellow or get dirtied easily. I managed to find a black one at Osmose - pretty cheap too! And it fits just nicely! Super happy!

I agree, too. Nothing makes an outfit instantly chic more than a well cut blazer! They come in so many different materials now, like linen for spring/summer. I love the cut of Kenzo blazers, which are on the high end of the price meter. Zara and Banana Republic are good medium priced choices. And for a lower priced selection, H&M has some great ones, too!

I would add that another useful blazer is one that works with the dominant color in your wardrobe (for example, if you have a lot of brown shoes, a great tan or beige blazer works wonders over a well tailored pair of dark jeans)
If you sometimes add a great print scarf (colder weather) or interesting chandelier earrings and leave the collar up - it looks great (at least it looked great on my college campus and i just graduated last month)

So we all agree that we're in love with the boyfriend blazer, but has anyone actually found the perfect one and where to get it?

to the one who said she was thinking about getting a blazer from forever 21 and getting it fitted..if it is going to cost more to get it altered than the blazer cost in the first place, it may be worth it to just spend the money to get a great fit without having to alter.
