Stress Causes Acne

I've read before in various magazines and websites that stress causes acne. And sure, I believe them -afterall, it's a scientific finding that doctors tell us and not something off a new beauty product advertisement. But now I really care and believe this because it just happened to me! Last Tuesday, the day of my last exams, I woke up and felt some inflammation pain on my face but didn't have time to check it out properly. But at night, I checked out my face properly and was not happy -there were five new pimiples! So many breakouts within one day has not happened to me for a few years!

Not surprisingly, I freaked out and looked for a scientific explanation. I found that The Acne Resource Center Online has an understandable summary of why stress causes ance. Basically, stress causes stress hormones, which cause more sebum secretion and thus more acne. Plus, during time of stress, we tend to get lazy about our skincare regime.

It's always nice to know the explanation behind things, but at the end of the day, it's not like we can control our brains and not be stressed just so we don't get breakouts. So my solution is: damage control! I really recommend Origins Spot Remover. It's one of the only over-the-counter acne products that has actually helped calm and minimise my pimples. (When I say it works, I mean it helps. It does not work miralces!) No, I'm not getting paid to promote it! If you have other recommendations, leave it a comment.

Now the next problem is getting rid of the horrible red marks left behind on my skin. It takes ages, and I mean ages for the marks to fade. Unfortunately, I have yet to discover any product that actually helps fade the red spots. Does anyone know a good product for this? Help!

Be careful with this stuff. I used it in high school and it burned my skin! Thank god the scar went away on a few months.

Well, as for helping get rid of the scars, anything with retinol (aka Vitamin A) will help smooth over the skin. There's a prescription medicine called Retin-A that works well, but as for OTC, just think Vitamin A/Retinol

Hope that helps =]

I don't know about spotting, but i know that if you have a bad blemish, i always use Burt's Bees Blemish stick. You can get it at Target now, cause they have hosted a lot of naturally healthy based products.

That happens to me atleast once a week!
I would recommend tea tree oil
you can get it at any Ulta store.
It doesnt have side effects and helps to heal blemishes and other acne =]

ugh im suffering from the same exam induced stressed breakout. not fun!

i use this really cheap stuff from the supermarket (woolies, coles or iga in australia), about $7 a bottle. i can't remember the name of it but it's in a bright green bottle with a crocodile on it haha! anyway it dries the skin out really well, but depending on how bad the blemish is, it can take from 2-7 days for it to disappear.

Tea tree oil often gets rid of blemishes, even big ones, within a day or two. Try Desert Essence.

I've used loads of spot/blemish treatments in the past, but the one that works the best (again not miricles!) is Burt's Bees herbal blemish stick. Definately worth a try!

I used to use origin spot remover, it does works but takes time. The past few years I have been using Kiehl spot remover and i havent get any pimples since. Everytime I felt like I am getting a pimple, I put it on at night. The next morning its gone. Try it it really works.

If the pimples are the red, sore, blistery kind, what I do as an emergency remedy is to put a bit of toothpaste on the pimple at night, and in the morning, the swelling and redness eases. But as a long-term treatment regime, estee lauder pore cleaner is really good. something less pricey is a good hydrating scrub from biore.

I know the perfect remedy :]. Plenty of water and a lot of rest, and coconut oil! I am so pleased, I have just finished my last exam which was on Monday, and I will not have any more exams ever (of this nature) I hope...and my eye bags are slowly fading away.// aLoverofThisBlog :)! xxx Farhi

PCA Pigment Gel is the BOMB! Although it is technically a "lightening product" it ELIMINATES acne and remaining marks. I'm super pale and this is the only product that got rid of the red spots that used to last forever! This gel is strong though, not for everyone. I use it sparingly every other day. Since I started PCA my face is blemish-free and the tone is very even, I get comments on it all the time now. You can see spots fading after a few uses. I got mine from Skinstore.com, there are tons of reviews for it there. PCA products are also at various vendors online, even Ebay.

i have never tried this myself, but i have heard that after treating a pimple to swell down and such, and it is still red and irritated, dab some visine tears for red eyes on it, somehow it calms the redness down

you probably have some around your house, so it's worth a try (just use a little the first time, i'd say)

also remember to wear sunscreen outside to prevent further irritation

and as far as coverup goes, make sure it's fully moisturized before you put on concealer or anything. nothing's worse than crusty, dry, pimples with clearly visible coverup. it is worse than just going makeup-free

ya feel me?

Thanks for some great info on here! My skin has only become more sensitive as I've gotten older!

I've heard the visine and toothpaste answers above too, I never found either too helpful. I do like St. Ives Apricot Scrub (there are different formulas - I use for blemish & blackhead control). I like the exfoliant - so many (myself included) try to clear up pimples by drying out the skin. While that can work in a spot treatment, dead skin cells can clog pores and cause more problems.

OXY 10 from drug stores. I use it for emergency spots and cover up and it usually clear up in a couple of days. But, I like Origin products so will try it as well.

A very effective (and probably cheaper than Origins) product that I have used for years is the Tea Tree Oil Blemish Stick by The Body Shop. It's great for sensitive skin (which I have) b/c tea tree oil is natural and it works better and soooo much faster than any other product I've ever found. To cover the red marks, a green tinted cover cream under your foundation really neutralizes the red. The Body Shop used to sell one of those too, not sure if they still do though.

I had problem with acne for the past two years, and I just found out recently that Aloe Vera Gel (cost 1.99 in GNC) can reduce acne scars. If you are adventurous, you can try birth control pill, which will dramastically improve your skin. It works for me that even my coworker noticed the difference!!!

Origins POST Blemish Acne treatment treats the red mark left behind. I am really fair (redhead) and the marks are usually gone in about 2-3 days. It's a super gental cream and not stingy at all.

Because it doesn't treat the blemish itself, I will sometimes mix it with my acne treatment to both dry up the pimple and fade the spot at the same time.

I really like the natural exfoliant from Aveda, I soak a bit of tissue in it and let it dry on the spot and also use it on a cotton pad after I clean my face because it is like a toner but exfoliates too.

Usually anything that is "anti-ageing" or "regenerating" works to clear my skin up and I'm only 24 so I'm not really concerned about wrinkles. It's just that those products increase cell turn-over like a mild exfoliation so less cells get trapped in pores leading to pimples. Garnier has a great skin regenerating lotion, so inexpensive for the value. Definitely give it a try.

Well that's a good theory, what if I've noticed is that if I'm more stressed and so I go to sleep, wake up with my face a bit more wrinkled, but if I go to sleep with stress free wake up in better spirits and I feel younger.

Now I can visualize how breakouts is related to stress.. And how stress triggers the development of acne. This new term psychodermatology explains why one must avoid being stress if he/she wants to avoid acne.

I’ve been a regular face at the hospital to get treatment for my condition. After a very long time, I kind of almost gave up. Then one of my friends introduced me to Purity 12 products. I said to myself, how can this be a solution to my problems? He encouraged me to try it first and that there’s no harm in trying anyway, and he told me that he’s been using their products and made a business out of it. As a friend, he bought some products for me as a gift so I could try them. Now, I’m really thankful that I received this gift. It’s been the best gift I have ever received since. I feel better, a lot more energetic and like I’m a totally new person! It’s really important to me to be able to share my story with you because I also want people like me to make this discovery and make their lives finally better! If you want to know more about them, everything is on their website. http://if1s.com?131

I’m so sorry that you had to find the truth out the hard way. Dealing with acne is never easy. You should definitely consult a dermatologist regarding the best acne-fighting products. There are creams that not only clear your face from acne, but also prevent them from coming back. Hopefully, you’ve found a product that doesn’t leave acne marks by now. :D

If you’re caught in the middle of a not so good situation, don’t be stressed. Instead, think of the best possible way of how you’re going to handle the situation. I think while you do that, it would really be great if you create a mantra saying: “I shouldn’t stress myself. Remember, stress causes acne”, or something like that. ;) What do you think?

Haha! I love your idea, Shavondra! However when you try to do this, you have to make sure that your children are not around since they’ll just gonna tease you for sure. Haha! And because you don’t want to get stressed, you have nothing to do but to let them. Frustrating? No, that sounds fun! I think you’re kids will just want you to laugh! ;)
