Oscars 2006 Fashion

Most of the celebs looked lovely! I think the thing we've all got to remember is that all these dresses look so much more fantastic in real life and on tv than in photos. There is nothing that can replace the way the dresses move, and swishes & swashes with the actresses. So try to watch the Oscars and the red carpet action on tv if you can!

Reese Witherspoon looked AMAZING. She wore vintage 1955 Christian Dior, (which she apparently found in a vintage store in Paris and had people fix it up to its original condition,) and looked like royalty. If you can, go find an HQ photo of the dress, looking at it close up will totally awe you. And once again, her smile is just so sweet and relatively natural compared to other stars.

Nicole Kidman wore Balenciaga. Supremely elegant in typical Kidman fashion.

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore Bottega Veneta. She wasn't overly fancy but I love the chiffon and the way she seems to be seemingly carefree.

Keira Knightley also looked STUNNING in Vera Wang. The dress fitted her so well. And she's got one of the best made-up faces there, with eye shadow courtesy of Chanel. This is def one of my FAV looks.

Rachel Weisz wore Narciso Rodriguez. Ok so this dress looks mega boring and plain in the photo, but if you see walking on stage for her acceptance speech for winning Best Supporting Actress, then you'll see the dress is actually really sophisticated. And of course, let's not forget she's seven months pregnant!

Ziyi Zhang in oh surprise surprise, Giorgio Armani. The dress looked great on her, but maybe it's time to try a different designer?

Jessica Alba in Versace. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, the dress fits her scarily well, but that hairstyle is awful on her, making her look older than necessary.

Uma Thurman in Versace. This time, I'm surprised that Versace can look this sophisticated. Uma looked amazing, but maybe because this is not her 'year' (in terms of awards) so not too many people paid attention to her. And her whole hair and makeup was just unbelievable.

The Blacks:

Jennifer Aninston in Rochas; Felicity Huffman in Zac Posen; Hilary Swank in Versace. Aninston and Swank looked beautiful, but I'm not so sure about Huffman's dress.

So many reviews are raving about Michelle William's yellow Vera Wang gown, but personally I don't think it was the best dress there. I didn't like the shoulder/neck bit of the dress.

And finally, well, Charlize Theron probably should pick a slightly more practical and less stiff dress for next year, and Jennifer Lopez really needs to rethink her whole color scheme, in particular how tanned her face should be!

I absolutely love Reese's dress. And I agree with you about Michelle Williams' dress. I'm not too fond of the color AT ALL. It's borderline mustard-y.

I completely agree with you on Michelle's dress. If you don't mind me asking, how do you make your blog so custom?

Wow! Reese has an awesome dress. I didn't realize all the intricacies because I tuned in after the pre-show and the Oscars itself was so boring, I tuned out.

JLo's tan, esp. on her face was honestly not so hot. She looked like she had a tanning disaster the day before

Agree with you on Michelle William's dress.
I love keira knightley's look! She looks best overall.
Nicole is great but just the normal Nicole..Not much surprise!

I kind of disagree with about Michelle's. She was the only one that didn't go for the save color, which black, bedge or ivory. And i think she looks so great in that dress, the make up and hair was perfect. Pluse, she just had a baby, for her to look that amazing i think she deserve the criedt for looking beatiful on the red crapet.

I hated la Knightley's look, the necklace did not work with the dress and the bottom of the dress swamped her tiny frame in my opinion.

Loved the style of Michelle Williams' dress apart from the ruffley thing on the neck.

For some reason I just didn't like Swank's dress, I thought it was just too ridiculously tapered at the bottom which made the little bit of chiffon seem a bit out of place. It just looks impossible to walk in without taking tiny penguin waddle steps.

I loved Salma Hayek's dress but preferred it on the catwalk to the red carpet.

I liked Keira's look - didn't like Michelle Williams' at all though - I don't think the colour did her skin or hair any favours, and the shape was a bit weird. The red lipstick didn't really help either!

I like Felicity Huffman's dress - but I'm not sure she was the right person to wear it. Isn't she getting a bit old for that sort of style?

I thought Uma Thurman looked fab! But I agree with you about Jessica Alba's hair - it was just a bit - unflattering!

I didn't like Maggie Gyllenhaal's dress though. I don't think the colour or the shape did her figure any favours - particularly not the gathering around the waist.

I loved also Diane Kruger's white dress, a corsage with frills by Elie Saab! It looked perfect and fabulous like Reese Witherspoon's dress by Dior.

Jennifer Garner's dress by Michael Kors was also well picked and as well Karolina Kurkova's!

Naomi Watts in Givenchy was a bit too non clored but still quite fancy!

Wow, as usual, my IDOL - Reese Witherspoon looked gorgeous at the Oscars. My most favourite one (which u surprisingly didnt put up) was Jada Pinkett Smith's gorgeous BLUE gown! I also loved J Lo's actually, but i too agree about the tan. My least fav was actually Michell Williams'. I really dont see the big deal about it.

I might be the lone ranger that liked J.Lo's dress (no comment on the hair & makeup). She and Reese did the vintage thing quite well. I loved Michelle Williams dress, just not on her particular form. Her hips didn't do the dress justice. Vera Wang usually flatters the form, and ummm usually is on the curvier. Keira's dress has been done to death, and I actually felt a bit like she'd been cloned from last year's asymmetrical craze that just won't end. Actually, this will be the third year. Salma's dress was divine. Amy Adams (I think that's her name...Junebug actress) was so not what I expected from Carolina H. I'm going on too much....Reese definitely wins.

I love Jennifer Aniston's and Uma Thurman's dress!
They are so simple and that's what I like the most and what makes them so special(concerning their dresses)!
Eyecatching jewellery would not have gone with their dresses!

i have to disagree - out of a plevy of same chanel knock off gowns -- michelle williams gown was a show stopper and the plunging v-neckline was ravishing and soft...........Take a gander at Diane Kruger

I didn't notice until recently, but Michelle Williams is a beautiful woman. I'm impressed with her bold fashion choices. Reese was stunning, not as dull as usual!

I really liked Reese Witherspoon's dress.Very sweet. I loved Nicole Kidam's white gowm. She looked soo elegant. I noticed that there's not a lot of people liked Charlize Theron's dress. I just loved it. It's so different.Well she was fabulous and she took a big risk. Not like jennifer Aniston. I usually like what she is wearing but this black gown was soo boring. The same for a hair. She should try some changements. Anyway I'm not a big fan of Michelle William's dress, especially the colour, but I thought she looked pretty anyway.
Jessica Alba looked stunning. Diane Kruger was very élégant and Hilary Swank was okay. I'm kinda tired of black gowm. Voilà!

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked amazing in Bottega Veneta. It's about time some of these women start wearing the chic designs by Tomas Maier for Bottega Venneta. I am so bored with Versace, Armani, and Vera Wang!

Reese Witherspoon looks amazing. I loved the dress - not so much as some others at the oscars - but what was great about her, as has always been the case, is her overwhelming natural vibe. She is so unlike other celebrities in that she has an extremely real personality, like she could be your neighbor. Needless to say, I love Reese! Michelle William's dress... well, she could have done much better. I think the color washed her out more than it was ever meant to. As for Jennifer Lopez... oh my lord! Did anyone else think she looked like a man? Her shoulders and biceps were much too defined for that dress and its neckline. Also, her hair could have been a little looser... Her face looked like it was being squeezed into the back of her head. All in all, my favorite dress was that of Jessica Alba, which I kind of hate to say because I'm really not a big fan of hers. Her dress was gorgeous though. Favorite hair: Uma Thurman! I wish my hair could do that! :)

I have to say, I disagree with most of the people on here, I thought that Reese Witherspoon looked boring. Sure it was a nice dress, but I didn’t think it looked good on her. It was a boring cut of dress that they tried to make fancy. And I also thought that Michelle Williams was the best dressed, people don’t understand that a gown shouldn’t be trendy, it should match you personality and body to a T to be a real beauty. Her bold choice was completely her and nobody matched her.

I Absolutely love Jessica Alba's dress here! How could you not? The fit is perfect, but I totally agree about the hair- she could have done better.
