The OC Is Really Ending

Hey people, we're back! We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and fun New Years Eve. (We can't believe our four-week holiday is already finished. We're ready for another four!) We were so touched by the readers, who some nicely, some not-so-politely, asked us to come back.

In the past week, I've had family and friends, who usually are not so on top of entertainment news, call/ email me to confirm that the OC really is over. (It really is amazing how many people knew about this so quickly.) Yes, sadly, the OC really is over.

The OC was such an amazing, fascinating show in its first season. Season 1 was fresh, beautiful, glamorous and oh-so-addictive. Sadly, Season 2 and Season 3 kind of went downhill. One of the main reasons why I continued to watch was for those to-die-for clothes worn by Marissa and Summer.

Now that Marissa is gone and Taylor is the other young female star of the show, Season 4 started off rocky. But for some reason, I really feel that The OC has started going uphill again in the last four or five episodes. Sure, there is no more effortless chic (a la Marissa), nor the fabulously spirited (a la Summer pre-environmentally-friendly days.)

But Taylor, who is always so direct, practical and motivated, has slowly grown on me. Summer is thankfully growing out of her save-the-earth-with-not-so-stunning-clothes phase. And there are the usual: Julie is up to something sneaky, Kirsten Cohen is clueless, Sandy Cohen is saving people with his legal power, Ryan has finished brooding and is back with the Cohens, and Seth is well... doing nothing as usual. Oh, and of course there is Kaitlin Cooper, who Willa Holland is quite great as -you can totally see her related to Marissa. Why oh why does Fox have to cancel the show when it is just getting better again?

Alas, Fox has confirmed that the final episode will air on 22 Feb 2007. Well, I suppose now the producers never have to figure out how the OC kids have to seperate to different colleges. What do you feel about the OC really ending? I for one will really miss it.

are they going to send the final episod on 22 feb. but will it be like a season end, or just an end, like any episod?

Ohhh will I miss it too! I think the show was going uphill for a few shows too, just like you said. I'm gonna miss my Thursday OC fix! :(

Rumor has it that the CW may take over and continue. Also the producers seem to have confirmed that it will be a complete ending, not arbitrary chop off in the middle of the season.

This is really sad for the fashion obsessed OC fans but honestly I think the writters have been digging their own grave for a while. They never bothered to develop the characters after Season 1 and instead just kept on piling on more drama.

I will definitely miss it, though I think many people knew that it would be ending soon. I don't think it could ever be as good as it was and while I love it it's not worth keeping on the air if it's going to get worse and worse.
They only ordered a half season this year, so I'm pretty sure that Feb 22 was the end date of the season anyway, meaning that storylines will be wrapped up.

Feb 22 will be the series finale. However, check out this post http://www.tvseriesfinale.com/2007/01/the_oc_sun_sets_on_the_fox_drama.html from TV Series Finale.com which says it would be a smart move for Warner Brothers to produce the OC for a 5th season to get it to 100 episodes, the benchmark for profitable syndication. They have a poll, so go there and sign! Just be careful with how the question is worded. We want to say NO, the OC should NOT be canceled! Tell all your friends! We've also been told by a somewhat 'insider' of the CW to send polite emails to The CW (which is owned by Warner Bros., as is The OC) at feedback@cwtv.com telling them WHY we want the show saved and committing to watch it on CW if they pick it up! We also want to find an email address for Warner Bros. People are still signing the Petition at www.fox.com/oc/savetheoc too. It's up to almost 424,000! I'd at least like to see The OC get to 100 episodes so it can go into reruns. I want the rest of the world to see what we all know -- just how incredible The OC is!

For the longest time, the OC was going downhill for me as the characters never seemed to be really happy and absurd problems kept on coming up. Marissa and Ryans' characters were quite depressing. It was getting really different from the way it first started, which is somewhat more light hearted and fun. Nonetheless, I will definitely miss the awesome fashion on the show and I must admit, even though the first episode of the season was weird, Taylor and Caitlin are really starting to grow on me. I am eager to see what antics Caitlin will into and more of Taylor's fashion.

although seasons 2 & 3 weren't so great -- especially 3, since the whole marissa/johnny drama aggravated me to death -- i think the fourth season is really picking up again. i'll definitely miss it. it was my favorite!

i have probably seen each o.c. episode about six or seven times. i know the show by heart and i will miss it like crazy. but what is all this talk about the second season not being as good as the first? it was just as good or better. there was the drama with trey and marissa, kirsten becoming an alcoholic, seth and summer breaking up, julie starring in a porno and then considering killing caleb...etc... Plus the clothes were way better 2nd season. In my opinion the last few episodes of the second season were the height of the o.c. each minute was gut-wrenching.

the 3rd seasion was pretty boring but...AHHhh...the clothes were sooo pretty. they should have never killed Marissa off, even though she was a horrible actress. it completely ruined the show. it is unrecognizable. it is not even formatted like the old o.c. they have really crappy dialogue and extremely predictable themes. and what is with Ryan's dad being a gentlemen? if they wanted to bring him in he should have been CRAZY like Trey was. THE PLOTS ARE SO MESSED UP AND SILLY NOW...it is not the same show. Ryan would never like someone like Taylor, and their relationship has absolutely no basis. Seth and Summer are hardly in the show, which totally destroys it--because they provided most of the laughs. Julie has suddenly become NICE...and has hardly acted up all season. Sandy and Kirsten sit like two dummies with no important plot-lines coming their way. No one acts like the same person as they did at the beginning, the writing sucks, and that is why the show is being cancelled.

it would be great if it were on the CW, but I doubt that will happen. I think the whole cast and crew wants it to be over.

it is a shame that something that was once so great has to be cancelled. Fox is annoying that way--always cancelling the best shows. It was the same situation with Arrested Development, arguably the best-written and funniest show to ever be on TV. If Fox would just give these productions a chance...

I'm so glad the OC is ending. I for one am not going to miss the cliche plotlines, inconsistant/lazy writing, lack of character development, Marissa's god**** Issues, crappy acting (read: mischa barton), and cheap whoring out of "indie" bands (they sold their soul to the devil). I really hope the CW doesn't pick it up. Seriously, let's just destroy the dvds and move on with our lives.

i really wonder how the series finale would be brought out...more deaths? an open ending? i just watched episode 11 and it is really a vicious cycle i am going through...

i want to watch the episodes as soon as possible, but dont want to at the same time because i have to enjoy the last episodes...

Please make suggestions for plot endings and theories of how the OC could end without spoiling the final touches after such a wonderful kick off!

thanks and this blog rocks

I think the OC has had its run...i think another season would be overkill. For me, the first season was amazing, but 2nd and 3rd were just mediocre. It's like, how much more drama could they go through? It just feels like the same stuff over and over. The OC should bow out dignified, not lamely! i'll miss it though, but everything come to an end. Maybe I'm just bitter they killed off Marissa and tried to replace her with taylor.

hi everyone! greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
i've been an OC fan from the very first episode. i know S3 was not the best, but S4 is awsome again. i fell in love with the characters all over again. i always hoped The OC would turn into the Beverly Hills 90210 of our time, a show that lasted many more seasons than just 4. i relate so much to some of hte characters, to some of th things they go through. i am really sorry Fox is ending th show for ever. i surely will miss it a lot! i love you all OCians; ryan, seth, summer, taylor, kaitlin, sandy, kiks, julie, all of you! thank God for the re-runs!
love you all!
Santi.

I think Taylor's character is better than Marissa's. I loved Marissa...but really her acting was pretty lame. I think Taylor brings a lot more to the show. I am SO sad to see the show end....I really hope the other network picks it up. Stupid and drama filled plots or not....I LOVE THE OC!!!!

Season 4 is getting better every episode! But im a bit worried about Seth, he seems so lost in his own little world. I think its dumb taking The OC off just when it was getting better. Personaly I think this affects many people outside the US. I'm personally from Norway, and this is a tragedy for me and my friends. I know alot of people that's gonna cry on thursday when it all ends. And I know I will. I'm getting teard up all redy thinking of it!

Love and tears from Norway and Sara <3

I think Mischa Barton was a crappy actress and I was relieved when she left the show. I think Taylor is a more interesting character as she funny but freaky too. Marissa's character had run its course and there wasn't really much more they could do with her anyway.
