Lately walking on the streets, I've seen an uncomfortable amount of people wearing these:
Yes, by "these," I mean Crocs. There is even a whole colorful store in the best shopping district in Hong Kong devoted to the distribution of these Crocs.
I know that Bush has been seen sporting these recently, but he's hardly the icon of fashion and trends now. So WHY would the general population be seen in public wearing these, when they are not boating or doing outdoorsy things as they were originally designed for? They are certainly not flattering no matter what angle you're looking from.
But according to the Crocs site, these are the reasons why:

- Really soft, super comfortable, molds to your feet: well people are certainly not wearing them because they look good
- Barely there, weighing only 6 ounces: flip flops are barely there either...
- Vented so air passes through, keeping feet cool: again, so are flip flops
- Non-marking slip-resistant soles: a valid point
- Bacteria and odor resistant: thats certainly a plus seeing as how it looks plastic
- Ultra-hip Italian styling: It may possibly be Italian styling, but ultra hip?
- Port holes allow water and sand to pass through: and thats a good point because?
- Can be sterilized in water and bleach: well if it allows water and sand through, it'll obviously allow water and bleach through.....
- Easy maintenance, just wipe clean: it does look plastic...
- Orthotic molded foot bed for ultimate comfort and support: Is this the same as #1?
Basically, comfort, support and practicality are their selling points. So unless you are boating and doing outdoorsy things in which case these shoes may be practical, please, do NOT wear them around in public. There are just as comfortable and more easy on the eye options out there, like flats, sneakers, flip flops and *gasp* (even) birkenstocks!

Haha... it's funny that whenver I read your blog I'm like "Yes... This girl knows exactly what's up!" Crocs are so sad... I hate when I see adults and little kids wearing them, but it's not surprising because there are so many unfashionable people in my town (one of many downsides of living in the suburbs). Crocs should be burned.

As a person who frequently has sports practices/is outside/rides horses, I'm letting you all know right now that those shoes are wonderful.
I mean, not with jeans and a cute tank, but seriously, if you're just at the grocery store, cut somebody a break.

That picture of George Bush completely made my day. I loudly and proudly talk shit about Crocs every time I see anyone in downtown Seattle wearing them. There are no gardens, no boats, and no mud puddles in the middle of the city.
Well have you heard... Crocs apparently are QUITE dangerous... A lot of people are wearing them for everyday use, placing the strap behind their ankle; when in fact that crocs straps have been known to snap off!!! In such, people have been falling and losing their balances in these shoes/slippers and seriously hurting themselves... I have never liked them since the've come out and this only adds to my distaste of these shoes/slippers?!!?!
I'll wear my crocs even MORE now, just to annoy you people.
I can see how they would be GREAT shoes for kids since kids don't keep flip flops on very well, but I still haven't been able to bring myself to buy a pair for my kiddos. There's just something way too 'clunky' about them that is stopping me.
crocs are hideous! i hate how there are so many ppl out there willing to sacrifice fashion for comfort. i mean, not saying you have to be wearing 4 inch stilettos every day, but come on! people just do not try any more. its hard to find natural elegance these days. crocs, rubber flip flops, and sweatpants should not be worn unless you are working out or in your backyard. pull yourselves together!!
i believe crocs have to be the biggest fashion faux pas in the history of the fashion world. they are so ugly i can't even come close to describing how ugly they are. and less well-known companies have been coming up with knock-offs of the croc, which is just lame. crocs may be comfortable but so are other kinds of better looking shoes. i don't see the point of wearing crocs. plus, george bush looks ridiculous wearing those grey crocs with the black socks, which just proves his stupidity.

i also had a friend who wore them during the last part of her pregnancy-- which is the only time i find them excusable... and anon735.. those are equally as hideous
YES, AH-GREE, fashion over function is definitely the way to go, especially when functional shoes look like THAT. My mom wanted to buy a pair for gardening, but when she mentioned she wanted to wear them around the neighborhood i talked her out of it--HOW EMBARASSSING WOULD THAT BE?!?!?!

okay, so i bought a pair of the croc flats. they are so comfortable, and dont even look like crocs. just balance them out, no jeans please, and make sure your thighs are covered. they look really good actually.
You guys shd see it when a whole family is togged out in crocs, in the SAME colour and esp when its ORANGE. UGLY!!!! Fashion faux pas...
They are just plain ugly. there's no two ways about it. Practical? Perhaps. But trying to convince us that they are "ultra-hip"? Puh-lease! I bet you'll never see Anna Wintour sporting a pair...
I don't think they're ugly, find them cute, especially some new designs they have!

Okay, I have a couple of things to say. First- George Bush is bad at speaking and even worse at dressing himself. I think he sniffed one too many lines of yayo back in his day and it must have f*cked with his fashion sense(if he had one). Second- I don't think we could burn crocs. Have you ever smelled burning plastic? Every damn bird in the skies would drop dead. Truthfully, I don't know how we could rid the earth if them? How much does making a spaceship cost? Is it possible to make a spaceship big enough to hold all those "shoes" and possibly their wearers? (We don't need them either; they're bad influences.) Peace.
p.s. Bush should be considered a terrorist just for wearing those. Peace.
I think that they CAN be casual-cute if someone wears them the right way (with VERY casual, maybe sporty-ish clothes) and they would have to be in a fun color like hot pink.
And I'd say the Crocs ballet flats are even worse than the originals. Those are just plain hideous.

I must say that I hate crocs, I have always hated crocs, they are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen. On that hand I must also say, I do own a pair. I bought them for work because I am standing all day and need the support and to be quite honest our work uniforms can't get much worse(tan pants and forest green tees with yellow writing, eww.) So what I do, is keep a pair of extra shoes in my vehicle and i slip the crocs on right before I go to work, then slip them off right when I get out. That way no one really sees them. And I have told the people at work, we don't talk about them!! Not that any of them care because its a White water rafting and outdoor adventure resort so they are a bunch of hippies and most of them own them in more than one color.
Still, they kill me and I am very upset with myself for buying the ugly shoes.
Isn't the whole point of your blog to write about fashion and allow people to choose whether or not they like something, instead of flat out telling them to NOT wear it or like it? If someone has a different opinion than you, just accept it and don't make them feel like a loser.

Ok, to one of you who posted anonymously... you said crocs are ok in a 'fun color like hot pink' but the flats are ugly?? are you kidding me? All crocs are disgusting and wearing them in hot pink would just make them worse.. why would you want to draw more attention to the ugly shoes??

I'm so glad I'm not alone on this whole Crocs thing! They are super ugly and should only be worn under three very specific conditions:
1. prego
2. you are a nurse
3. kids under the age of 8
They kinda make me want to vomit. With all the styles of crocs that have come out makes me want to stop this nastiness even that much faster! *Shudder*

I'm a nurse so I'm wearing those in the hospital. I so really like them, I've got them in pink with a little yellow flower on, they're so cute! But on the street I really hate them, they are so ugly and certaintly with socks, like Bush is wearing them!

wow. We have developed quite a community of croc-haters. personally I think they are nasty as, and completely ubiquitous, which is even worse. Make them stop!!
Give Crocs a chance!
Yes, they are far from the definition of hip and stylish but they aren't bad at all. The shoes are wacky, they come in cool colors and funky styles, they add to one's personal style. Flip Flops, in my opinion, are just the same as Crocs. I find flip flops to be ugly. If you don't own a pair and haven't tried pairing it with all types of styles, then stop ganging up on a harmless trend.

i agree crocs are comfortable, but ugly and shoudln't be worn unless necessary...but flats and flip flops are definitely not as comfortable as crocs, they have no arch support unless you put in insoles and promote flattening of the arches......that said....flats will always be more stylish than crocs!

i use to think crocs were ugly like uggs are/were, but once you see them more frequently, you forget your initial OMG fugly reaction. i own uggs now and love them to death. so comfy. im thinking crocs might do the same for me if im ever so tempted. they are kind of cute on kids tho.

I am in med school and have seen a fellow student wear crocs TO THE HOSPITAL during clinicals. If my doc walked up to me in crocs, i would wonder why they dragged some random person off the street to cut me up. Just say no!!
Crocs are not from Sweden, the company was created in Nederland CO, though they use a (slightly) more posh Boulder address, now most of the product is produced in Japan

Hi. I appreciate all this negative reaction to crocs, which I could never get myself to buy. It is refreshing to hear people putting down this ugly, ugly trend. I'm not much into flip-flops either, too uncomfortable, and can slip off your feet. Flats look great, but also can slip off. Sandals with straps or sneakers, mainly sneakers, are the way to go for me. To each their own :).
I can understand that there are ugly things, but I can't stand ugly things becoming popular. The world will be a better place without crocs.
Everyone in Helsinki use those terrible things all the time ! You can see a lot of people wearing those with summerskirts! Wooooot!!!! It's just terrible!

yesterday i was at dinner with my boyfriend's cousins, and the subject was shoes, and i just said "the most ugly and hideous shoes i have EVER seen are crocs"... and my boyfriends cousin said: "is this a joke?", she said to him "are you putting her up to this? joke?" I was aready starting to turn purple, then she said that they are their distributer in Turkey(where we live) and she started saying that they're so comfortable etc., i was SO ashamed, because she was so nice to me and there I was totally bashing the product they chose to import... however, as sorry as i am, i still think they're HIDEOUS..
They are very popular in Wales and in fact everywhere in the UK, but then we have wetter weather!
I think they are great...I can see why they might not be popular in the States however, where everything is so generic and people are so critical! I can't believe there is a whole blog devoted to the hatred of a shoe....!
Puhleez...i USED to think they were ugly on the shelf...but when you actually wear them, they are cute, specially on kids. They are super comfortable and something different to wear. For adults, as I have a black one, they are fine...if they are soooooo ugly, then why is the company doing so well? Maybe because it's the next Nike?
i hate them. so so so much. they're popular here in santa cruz, ca because fashion isn't all that important, and the weirder/more functional, the better. at first i totally thought they were gardening shoes, and i was wondering why people would wear them on the street--how embarrassing i thought! now i see adult men wearing hot pink ones down the street and i want to barf. my boyfriend made me try some on for kicks [against my will] and they are comfortable and would be good for gardening/yard work but they are almost too hideous for that! the flats are cuter but i don't want to support this company.
I've tried some on, and they were comfortable. But I'd be terrified to wear them, not only because they're in painful neon colors but because they do look and feel kind of plasticy. I figure they're like those little ecosystems you made in kindergarten. You know the ones that gathered condensation on plastic wrap and 'rained' it down. Yeah, like that. But with sweat instead of water. Ew. Ew. Ew!

I bought crocs to try them and will say that they are cool to wear them at a certain outfit. Having a pair, wearing it and then hating them is just plain STUPIDITY. You just look like more the PLASTICS.
