Project Runway at the New York Fashion Week

So the new reality show featuring competing fashion designers, is finally coming to its finale on Friday's New York Fashion week. During the show, the four remaining finalists got to present there clothes on the runway, and here are some of their designs. . .

Austin Scarlett, whose theme is supposedly patriotic and old American. Personally it reminds me of the good old Victorian days-which I adore. . . but then again I'm not very acquainted with what old American is supposed to look it.

Next up was Kara Saun, who created a collection of the things she loves most: luxury, sexiness, strength and passion-which basically covers everything. It took me ages to identify her creations, and when I finally did. . well I don't have much feelings and thoughts towards it. I don't hate it, but I don't particularly love it either.

Then it was Wendy Pepper's turn, and her collection was inspired by the annual rite of harvest-which I guess means a return to nature. But the theme wasn't that apparent in the clothes, which like Kara Saun's was not too distinctive nor completely inspiring. This dress was the only one I can be sure is by Pepper.

And last but not least was Jay McCarroll's "stereotype" collection, which featured models wearing these huge headphones in matching outfits. As a fashion statement, and in terms of being distinctive and creative, McCarroll definitely scored high against his competitors. But as a wearer of fashion, I personally would not be caught dead wearing this (especially not those monstrous headphones), I mean she looks like a pink peacock! And paired with that pink feather shrug, it is just too overwhelming for one's eyes. . .

Overall it was quite a disappointment, but then again I unfortunately do not have cable access so haven't been able to watch this show-perhaps my expectations are just too high? But judging from their fashion show, I would guess that the winner would be between McCarroll and Scarlett, as they showed more creativity, potential and a sense of their own style.

I'm guessing the winner will be Kara Saun. I agree that her designs aren't very distinctive, but she is beloved by the people that be on the show and is very consistent. I have been rooting for Austin since the first scene of the series, when he appeared in a jaunty straw hat, but his designs tend to be polarizing.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Supposedly Jay gets eliminated this week, which means Wendy Pepper has a shot at the grand prize--YUCK. Pepper has outlasted about 5 far more talented designers. Her worksmanship is shoddy and she never seems to complete a design--in one episode, asked to design a swimsuit, she was unable to complete a workable bottom (the model wore her underwear) and STILL outlasted the Stella McCartneyish Alexandra Vidal. Still, she's a drama queen, and the other contestants on the show tend to be fairly pleasant, well-adapted people... unusual for reality tv.

Anyway, you have missed out by not seeing the show, it's great! Let's both hope it gets released on DVD--so you can see it for the first time and I can rewatch it whenever I get blue!

My general rute is: never dress like you're going to a costume party if you are not actually going to a costume party.

That pretty much eliminates the first and fourth outfit.

Well, I don't hate the cut of Wendy Pepper's green dress...but not many people can carry off the whole 'feather' look.

Workmanship never seemed to bother Tara Subkoff, and her partially completed Cashin-Trigere-Rabanne ripoffs with flyaway fabrics and unraveling seams never hindered her success. Why should such trivial matters bother Wendy Pepper?

Not-so-trivial, however, is the lipstick which seems permanently applied to Ms. Wendy's teeth.

i think wendy peppers designs lack creativity and are just plain boring. she's not a good anything, you might as well be shopping at sears and idoling Van Huesing if you think her designs are worth buying! quite honestly i think jay, kara, and austin are the only true designers out of the whole bunch. wendy needs to go back to her two room trailer in shittown, usa and feed her grandkids before they have to feed her!

****Error**** The Picture shown to reflect Kara Saun is not Kara's design. It is Wendy's.

Please watch the show. Bravo will have an encore marathon of all episodes leading to the Finale. I think the designers have been consistant and have done a great job, (with the exception of Wendy) in their designs. On the show they are given only hours to complete projects with limited funds. And yes your expectations are too high, this is their first run at this.

Yes, sorry I might have posted a wrong dress for Kara Suan. Just that I've never seen the show due to my sad lack of cable in my dorm room-just an antennae...but will try to get hold of it soon. But their 2 styles are just so indistinctive that its difficult to tell which design is by who.

What nobody seems to understand about Wendy is that she designs for women who live in and around the Washington, DC Beltway. Believe me they DO NOT dress like women in New York or Paris. It is very sedate. Frankly, I liked a lot of her designs. I guess that's because I'm from that area.

Elegant but Sedate

I really enjoyed Kara Suan's Line- however, I really believe that the show, should ONLY be people, that have NO foot in the door, whatsoever, She can make it, HANDS DOWN - by herself.

let it be known, Kara Saun's inspiration came from the 50's era of fashion and more directly from the movie "Aviator." Though her collection was well executed and shined the most both literally and conceptually, Jay ended up being the winner for the simple fast that he chose the broad design concept of self expression. In my opinion ANY collection is considered self expression becuase one is displaying their views on a particular concept. Jay could have deigned pratcially anthing and labeled it "self expression" and he wouldn't have been out of his deisgn philosophy his collection was "artsy" the sense of high design, but in terms of the market and the couture mode, Kara Sauns was better developed and was really a 12-look-strong collection.

So Anonymous, would you say your spelling is an example of the same concept of self expression?

You need to know the rules before you can break them.

Okay- you guys are totally wrong! First of all,
Kara Saun is an AMAZING tailor... her "Flight" Look, inspirired by the Hugh Hefner movie, was cohesive and beautiful, if a little costumey. The judges said it was hard choosing between that and Jay's... (original, eclectic, modern, erc.) but ultimately said Kara Saun didn't bring as much fresh ideas to the table as Jay. (They said she was Gucci-esque)

Now, Wendy Pepper... she was... a longshot. In the worst sense of the word. A seamstress with matronly tastes and AWFUL color choices, she only mananged to get through by the skin of her teeth... If either of the other three (Kara, Jay, Austin) had done something short, not pink, and not so formal for the Grammy dress, her "Big Bird" number wouldn't have won, and she would have been eliminated. Notice, years later... how Jay and Kara Saun are thriving, Austin Scarlett is doing wedding gowns... and Wendy? Is a seamstress. It's ironic, because she said she had a "strategy" to win... which basically turned people's eyes off of any talent she might have had and turned it onto her selfish and manipulative nature. Poor her.
