Demi Moore for Versace FW05

So after that terrifying SS05 Versace campaign by Madonna, the new face for the FW05 Versace campaign is Demi Moore. Oh joy. OK, so I get that since Versace has failed to attract the young crowd, it is now aiming for the 40+ age group, but does Dontella really have to choose such tacky and obviously surgically-enhanced-looking women to star in the Versace campaigns?

But of course, Dontella thinks Demi Moore is fab and I quote:
"I have known Demi Moore for many years and never has she been as beautiful as she is now," said designer Donatella Versace. "Her presence is magnetic because it is entirely natural and never forced. Her personality comes shining through."

And so dear readers, this is what happens when a brand gets desperate for media attention to revive itself. That gorgeous Versace FW05 collection doesn't really mean much now, does it?

I'm quite disappointed for Donatella's choice. I have never liked Demi Moore as an actress and for the type of woman she represents (she's 40 and it seems she's in her 30s). I can't really understand why Donatella thinks she could revive Versace's imagery. I don't understand, too, why she decided to turn away from the road she started with Christina Aguilera's campaign, which was honestly gorgeous. I am so disappointed because Versace has been my favourite fashion brand since I was a child, and it hurts me to see how badly things are going :(

Wear what you want, when you want! Who made all these rules? Nothing bugs me more than that section in Style where they say how you should interpret a trend depending on your age! Excuse me, if a 40-something wants to wear that cute, fun 20-something outfit, and can carry it off (or even if she can't; what's it to anyone else?,) then WHY NOT???????????????????????

Clozac, that is not the problem. Here we have a fashion brand with some difficulties and I don't think choosing a 40-year-old actress as testimonial will help it. Demi Moore is very beautiful but she is not appealing for the younger audience. You're right: every woman must have the chance to choose whatever she wants to wear, but here we're talking about visual communication: the market says that younger is better (it is quite disappointing but it's like that).

Well, superqueen, you said you don't like "the type of woman" who is "40 and it seems she's in her 30s." I actually am impressed when I see an obviously mature woman who is in great enough shape to wear younger styles, and does! ;-)

i agree with superqueen they definetly need someone young to appeal to the label crazy women out there, someone like Kate moss ( but i think shes with CK) i think Versace should go for a young actress type but someone very classy and would suit Versaces style, and have natural beauty like Katie Holmes. Plus Demi moore has had so much Botox (like madonna) it makes it look like a fashion for the mutton dressed as lamb depressive house wife type :O)If they had put Demi's name there i would never of known it was her.

Well who do you think can afford those designer clothes? Most are 40+....

Yeah but they like to think they look young. and anyway its better to have facless models if anything then nobody can associate what the actresses normally wear in public to Versace. then no-one can make a judgement about the person just the clothes

First off, there are only a handful of Kate Moss rich type girls who can actually afford the brand name. most young women can't afford versace. That's why Versce launched versus and a few other lines.

AND are you kidding me? Demi Moore looks gorgeous! the ads definetely caught my eye. SO what!? you think airbrushing in other ads dosn't occur? Big deal, demi turned to botox. I'm not sure what they did but she looks gorgeous, and im 19 and would definetely wear the clothes featured in the ads.

As well many suggested using random models. That sounds like the perfect idea but not very eye catching. While turning the pages of a magazine you are more likely to stop if a celebrity is plastered all over the ad. If this wasn't an effective way why would some superstars make more money from endorsements?I think these are basic marketing skills.

in conclusion, i was almost drooling when i saw demi in the jeans and the black see-through shirt. lol

It's virtually impossible to believe that it's almost a decade since the murder of the "aristocratic" and visionary fashion designer Gianni Versace. The superstar Italian fashion designer was murder in Miami, Florida, on 15th July 1997 by fugitive Andrew Cunanan, an alleged homophobic who was responsible for the murder of four other men before taking the life of Gianni Versace. Eight days later, Andrew Cunanan committed suicide in a houseboat on Miami Beach that was under siege by armed police.

Gianni Versace is without doubt one of the most respected, if not the most respected, fashion designers of his generation. Born in Reggio, Calabria, Italy on 2nd December 1946, he went onto build a fashion empire worth $807 million. A designer to the stars, Gianni Versace's outrageous propensity for chic glamour attracted names such as Elton John, George Michael, Madonna, Courtney Love, Jon Bon Jovi, the Artist (formerly known as Prince), Tina Turner, Sylvester Stallone, Will Smith, Elizabeth Hurley (who famously wore his safety pin dress to the Oscars) and, most notably, Princess Diana. The Gianni Versace style was, like all true style, indefinable; a mad mixture of avant garde and ostentatious extremes -- the man was a fashion genius and a great loss to his industry.

Donatella Versace, Gianni's younger sister, had the unenviable task of taking over the reigns of Versace and undoubtedly many people were anticipating the demise of the brand without its founder to lead the way. Donatella, it was said, could never live up to the immense reputation of her legendary brother. Well, it's been virtually ten years since the untimely passing of Gianni Versace and the Versace Brand is still a major force to be reckoned with and much of that success is due directly to Donatella's vision and incredible design sense. Donatella has surpassed all expectations and not only stabilized the Versace Brand but taken it on to new heights that would surely make her brother proud.

Donatella Versace has proven herself to be an incredible fashion designer in her own right and deserves to be afforded as much respect and adulation as her greatly missed brother!

When Cunanan approached him he knew. Cunanan was a fame seeker and thought he would get infamous by killing someone famous. He began by killing a guy I went to high school with, Jeff Trail, and then worked his way up fame-wise from there. Next on the list was Lee Migln, who was a big-time real estate developer in Chicago and then Cunanan went on to Versace. I remember Jeff Trail being a really nice guy. I am not exactly shedding tears Cunanan went out the way he did. Andrew Cunanan, who for some strange reason was wearing a bear suit at the time of his suicide, was being hunted by the police for these murders. Police also reported that Andrew Cunanan had committed suicide using the same hand gun that had been used to murder of Gianni Versace. We will never know.
