Stella McCartney for H&M
Rejoice! Today is possibly the most anticipated fashion day of the year -Stella McCartney's H&M fashion line is out!
Last year I was disappointed by Karl Lagerfeld's H&M collection -I spent an hour looking through the small collection but I didn't actually like anything. I thought the clothes were frumpy in an old lady sort of way. So this year, I decided not to get my hopes too high. But boy, was I suprised. Stella McCartney's H&M collection is Kate-Moss-stylish, trendy and m0st importantly, actually looks like it was designed by Stella.
Stella's signature look of effortless chic with a hint of rockstar glam.
I love this silk chiffon blouse. It's elegant, comfortable and versatile. I managed to buy this top when the second run of stock arrived at the Covent Garden store.
This gorgeous oversized trench is seriously oversized, but the volume it creates makes you feel like a supermodel on the FW05 runway. Alas, I think only tall people can wear this trench without looking like a potato sack.
To be fair, not everything was stylish. Like this long sleeved top, I thought looked cheap and too common.
These crystals bikinis were the most unpopular item from the collection -they were actually available in the stores! Not suprising though, since it is getting colder...
This bow jacket is great for the young, working woman. While it may look weird with jeans, it would look great with a skirt (as seen above) or with working pants. At first glance I didn't like how stuffy it looked, but I saw someone try it on and it looked great on the girl, so don't let first impressions stop you from trying on potentially fantastic clothes.
I WANT this satin blouson! It looks so amazingly casual yet not trashy. I can totally imagine wearing this with well, almost everything: from jeans to work pants and skirts. I am definitely going back to H&M to check if they have this in stock before I go to Geneva tomorrow!
If for some odd reason you still haven't gone to H&M yet today, go before it's too late!

People were vicious at H&M!!!
I snagged that bow jacket along with some other items
Yes. Karl's collection was a tad dissapointing. I wonder who will be the designer next year?
More importantly, how were the fabrics and the overall quality of the items? Is it noticably H&M quality? How is the fit on her items? More true-to-Stella or true-to-H&M? Lagerfeld's collection seem to be in design only and not in fit and quality. The fabrics he used were poor. How were the prices as well? I live in California so I can only dream about these luscious collections at H&M!! :)
I admit, I haven't been to H&M yet for the big day. But I will definitely go this weekend. Since last year, Karl's collection did not fly off the shelves as it did in NY, I am going to assume (and hope) that the collection is still there. Thats one advantage of living in chicago. .. .
I think the overall quality of the Stella collection was much better than Lagerferld's. Some of the Lagerfeld items seemed poorly cut and/or stitched and in consequence, did not fit well. Stella's collection, as far as I could see, was near perfect, and the fabrics were good quality.
Unfortunately, in my neck of the woods (Lisbon, Portugal) several items like the beautiful dresses were only available in sizes 38 and up (UK size 12 I guess) and in H&M's clothes I am 34/36 (8/10). So I only got the bubble skirt and a couple of tops.
I checked it out yesterday too and it was absolutely CARNAGE! so mannny women, it even got into that evening's Evening Standard. Front page!!!
To be honest, I wasn't that impressed. The clothes you've mentioned in your blog are really nice but in the store I didnt see anything that great. Maybe I was too late and had missed out on all the good stuff. Also, the quality was pretty poor, not surprising since it is H&M, but the prices seemed to be 3 times what I would normally pay for their clothes, despite the quality being the same.
If I hadnt known that it was Stella McCartney, and you had just shown me the clothes I probably would've just thought they were from H&M's average line, some of it was pretty average to me. Though admittedly, the things you've featured, for example, that satin blouson and the bow jacket do look pretty good. Shame I didnt get to see them in person!
Overall, I think you're always gonna be a little bit disapointed with designers collaborate with high street stores because you're expecting upmarket designs but getting them at high street quality which is a pretty bad deal to me.
i got there at 10:23 AM(the doors open at 10AM) and everything was GONE!!!! i still managed to buy a couple of things i loved, like the skinny jeans and oversized sweaters..and some cute skirts from stella...
question, how would you wear skinny jeans? what type of shoes and top would you wear with the skinny jeans from stella? i would love to hear what you suggest! if you dont mind, please email me ur response at: missyalice@gmail.com
thanks!
Don't expect being in Chicago to save you! I got what I wanted at 10:30 on opening day and I was lucky! Everything was gone by 11:30 or so.
i don't get it - will they not re-order the clothes? i'm in brussels, belgium, and i didnt think there'd be such a rush for the clothes. i remember seeing the lagerfeld-clothes in stores all the way through christmas....
I am wondering about the quality, too. It seems H&M's prices are going up and the quality is going down! I hope thats not the case with the Stella line, because most of it is so nice.
Unfortunately, it's not available in Connecticut, so I couldn't check it out!
I thought the quality of the clothes were quite good, esp compared to Lagerfeld's collection last year. The styles this year are also much easier to wear. I just question that since this is supposed to be a mass market collection, why couldn't they have made more.
Also, I have read criticism that the sizes were too small. Not true! All the small sizes run out faster than you can say Stella!
Check out eBay-- the storeroom floor frenzy for Stella McCartney's H&M collection, is now taking place in bidding wars.
Stella collection sold out in minutes. It was like being at a Vera Wang sample sale...pure insanity.
Loves your blog! Stella really out did Karl with this one. I heard that the entire line sold out in a matter of minutes and women were smacking each other with hangers over it! crazy stuff but all in the name of fashion.
WOW, I love living in Germany! My friend came over at the weekend from the UK and had a lovely leisurely shop around H&M where they had mountains of Stella McCartney items.Unfortuantly for Stella although her agency are pushing her hard on TV etc, she is not known in Germany- but this was great news for me. It would have been rude not to have bought lots.
Top tip... If you can't find anything left in the UK and you have friends doing christmas shopping in Europe give your friends a shopping list for you!
Can't wait to dazzle at the Christmas do this week.
Well.. i find H&M realy good coz where i live there isnt a H&M... and stella's fashion line is something you'd see Kate Moss .. wearing as their quite good friends..So at the office ill be looking good .. because most of my colleages will be in topshop .. stuff
Just read a piece in The Independent which refers to Adidas, Stella and kangaroos. It's derogatory of Stellas' implied use of kangaroo hide in products her firm market. The criticism is based on what is percieved to be the abuse of an endangered species. I am an Australian, born & bred, I live in regional Queensland, a State which would swallow Britain's landmass 6 times. The kangaroo is a PEST, here & elsewhere in this vast country. They're cute, they're kind to the ground they travel across (soft-footed), but they're a menace in a country which is amongst the driest in the world.
I am not sure how true that is about Stella and Kangaroo leather. Sydney & Melbourne-based magazines claim it is all lies.
