My shoes for SS06
As a smart shopper who also strives to be fashionable (which is no easy feat I tell you!) it is ever important to pay attention to accessories. Afterall, we live in the times when our clothes can come from just any high street stores, but the accessories must be from an original designer and somewhat this season. So the rule of thumb is to splurge on ONE pair of shoes and ONE bag each season.
At the beginning of this season, I was 80% sure I wanted a pair of brown leather platforms. Kind of like this pair of Chloes, except not as high for practicality's sake.
But then I realised that these brown leather platforms only look good only if they were 4 inches high, so then I fancied some colorful sandals to go with this season's neautral color clothes, like this pair of green sandals by Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Next, I was swayed by the cutest Marc by Marc Jacobs ballet shoes. I've been waiting for such ballet flats which have elastic straps for a few seasons already, and finally designers are making them! But at US$295, are they really worth it?
No they weren't, maybe I'll wait for them to go on sale. Next I tried on this pair of sandals by Top Shop. Totally fashionable, affordable, and after trying them on, they actually look good on one's feet! Sounds good right? The problem was that the straps sort of scrape against the back of my ankles when I walk, and so I sadly left them.
Yesterday, my first full day back to Hong Kong, I visited Miu Miu. While my mum was making a decision whether to buy a gold bag, I was doing what else -trying on shoes of course!
I am totally in LOVE with this pair of platforms (as seen in the top picture in gold) except I want them in white (the color shown in the bottom half of the picture.) These platforms are about 3 inches high but they are AMAZINGLY comfortable -I would say even more comfortable than my 1 inch Marc shoes. Not to mention they look BEAUTIFUL when I wore them, (you know how some shoes just don't really seem right on your feet? Well these totally felt right!)
I also love this pair of seriously glittery platforms. My only concern is that I would NOT feel as comfortable wearing such shiny shoes during daytime. BUT the glitter, patent leather and color combination DOES make them more fabulous than the patent leather ones on top.
So here's my dilema: which pair of Miu Mius should I get as my shoe this season:
1. White patent leather platforms.
2. The same patent leather platforms but wait for gold ones to arrive in store (as seen in top picture) since gold IS more versatile than white.
3. The seriously glittery and fabulous ones.
4. Find something else from another shop.
Help!

obviously everyone has their own taste in fashion, and i consider my fashion sense classic, girly and practical... so i would say maybe you should look for other opportunities... as fashionable as they are, they also are very impractical and -dare i say- cheap-looking...
patent leather, combined with gold and those heels and platform sole, i say they are not the cutest thing... and practicallity? all the walking in london and also in the london underground...
if the marc jacobs ballet flats don't worth it, do you really think these worth all the money considering the limited potential to wear the shoes and the fact that it will possible not be fashionable the next year?
or maybe i'm just a typical industrial engineer who overanalyzes evertying in terms of optimality and the maximum effectiveness...
i now that, this season i will be cashing out for the green MJ sandals and polkadot miu miu espadrils... i'm a girlie girl at heart
the gold the gold the gold.
platforms are easy and comfy to walk in, london's flat, and even if platforms go out in a season or so, ten years from now you'll drag 'em out. anyone remember the early 90's? lots of platforms.

Go with the gold!
Do you guys mean the gold patent leather ones? Or the glittery ones?
ipq: Ya, I know they'll prob not be in fashion next season, but that's why I'm only buying one pair per season that is really fashionable. And since these are Miu Mius, I reckon I can still wear them next summer.
keep shopping
I actually just went shoe shopping yesterday and saw all the shoes in this blog. I love, love, love the glittery Miu Miu's they're fun, funky, comfy, and in fashion! I think glitter can go with almost anything and patent is so hot this season... go with the glitter/patent pair!!
i actually like the green MJs. i think the gold glittery one looks clunky and tacky for my taste, but hey, it's your money. Buy whatever suits you. : )
Super ton blog !!! Continue comme ça.

Keep Shopping! The white are ok, but the sparkly gold especially look too...nightwalker, if you get my drift... Of course, no offence meant at all. They just remind me of shoes I see in adult stores at Halloween only. I could never wear those sparkly shoes in the daytime, without worrying that people would be thinking that I was making the walk of shame!!! Spend your money instead on a pair that looks like it was worth the money!
Get the gold ones. With good trousers they won't look too Pretty Woman (if I caught Anonymous' drift)
thoose all look to painful to actually walk in and they dont like they would go with to many outfitts. So i would go with something more practical
I bought those Chloe shoes and they are SO beautiful and comfortable.
I like the gold Miu Mius better than white. I always think white shoes are a little nurse-y. :)
I would say either the gold or the white platforms. I spotted a Topshop ballet flat similar to the ones from Marc by Marc. Maybe you can get those too :)
the brown chloes ALL THE WAY
i don't think the ballet flats are worth $295 (u can prolly get similar delmans for $150)
the sandals are ok in gold. in white? they say one thing and one thing only: STRIPPER
siigh, as much as i love platforms and high heels. i can never wear em! im already tall enough and ppl around Jersey arent as trendy. sad eh?
yeah, some of us are trapped in "the land that fashion forgot"...it is very sad indeed
the green mj's! Not a big fan of the miu miu ones except perhaps the last gold/metallic pair, but they seem impractical and slightly too flashy for day. I guess it also depends whether you want a day shoe or a 'night' shoe
definitely, definitely BROWN Chloes!!!
Let us know what you come up with.
RocketDogg has some ballet flats with elastic bands, Nordstroms and Tilly's carry them. They're only $30. But they were in season around summer and fall 05. I'm not sure if they still have them. Toodles.
The only attractive shoes on those pages were the Marc Jacobs ballet flats. All the rest are gawdy and ugly.
Sorry, but true.
The gold miu mius, totally. I think you could pull it off, as long you don't wear hotshorts or a miniskirt and keep the rest minimal it should work.
The brown chloes and the flats are pretty, though a bit pricey. Let us
know what you decide.
I would go with the brown Chloés or the green Marc Jacobs.
When spending this much money (totally worth it,) I say go for the ones that steal your heart and make your stomache do a little flip-flop. Forget practicality--you’ve got a great eye and can get suitable knock-offs to fill your more practical needs. I’ve had a similar strategy (but one fab/real designer pair of shoes a season) for close to ten years now and have never regretted going with my heart and gut. Some have been “impractical,” others have been more practical--but love lasts forever--I still wear all of them (even those that are of one particular moment,) even if some go on hiatus for a year or two (great looks always either come back or speak eloquently and individually on their own regardless of time.) I’ve built a collection I love, and believe I’ll have them and love them forever.
That said--the two that spoke to me: the Chloe brown platforms, the Miu Miu crazy glittery ones (astounding lines.) Can’t wait to hear what you choose!
Thanks for letting me know what you guys think! This has been so brain-damaging that I've even decided to procrastinate the decision with Statistics revision. I'll let you guys know what I end up buying when I do (which may be very far from now...)
If you haven't put down your opinion, pls do!
Don't get the platforms! They look like stripper shoes-- all they need is the acrylic nails and you'd be a 99 cent ho! On another note, Sue London makes great ballet flats. Check them out at girlshop.com
If there were a fire, or some crazy with a gun, or some psycho grabbing your arm and trying to abduct you, how would you get away in most of these shoes? They're death traps. Women are vulnerable; let's not make ourselves moreso by filling the pockets of designers who tempt us with these glittering leg-breakers. I'm not saying forego cuteness and wear nothing but "sensible shoes," but try to combine beauty with common sense!
I can't help but loooove the Marc Jacobs ones!!
Ohhh.. so i guess i found the shoe post.
I'd defintely go with the leather Chloes. Ive been into those ever since they came out. They're not new this season right? cuz i saw them last year.
Yep - get the CHLOES!

I love Chloe platforms! They are really quite comfortable vs. the Miu Miu ones as the heels are more sturdy and the incline doesn't look as steep. I've found similar wooden platforms for the budget conscious at aldoshoes.com specifically the Lynnee and Clariscia.
lovley sparkling shoes!!
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Don't buy the platform shoes - the one with the glitter and the gold one looks like stripper shoes! SERIOUSLY. The chloe and the marc jacobs look fantastic -- chic and elegant :)
if you havent already done so, BUY THE WHITE PLATFORMS!! i have them myself, and am not joking, quite a lovely and comfortable, versatile shoe. i also have a pair of MJ flats like the ones you show, and am a little dissappointed i bought them.... save your money.
amazing shoe models...i like this shoes...i would buy one pair of shoes instead of buying nike shoes
