Decision Decisions: Marc by MJ Top
Upon hearing of this wonderful news, I headed straight for the Marc by Marc Jacob's section in search for this blue shirt which I've had my eye on since Spring Break when I tried it on with Harrod's Girl. Indeed it was on 40% off sale, so including tax its $117 (it used to be $178). Its also on sale on shopbop for $124. It looks lovely on my complexion, the color is just sooo vibrant. However, I'm having my doubts about spending $117 on a silk spaghetti strap shirt. The pattern is soo distinctive too, I'm concerned whether it'll stand the test of fashion.
Although Rory did wear the dress version of it on the finale show this week, and she looked fabulous.And isn't it interesting that the coloring of the model looks so much like Rory's? Maybe this dress just works best on brunettes with long curly hair!
So here's my dilema. What do you, dear readers, think?

The shirt is adorable but im not too sure about the dress although rory pulls it off amazingly
I like the dress better than the tank.
40% off IS a good deal...and its silk, won't go out of style and is MMJ, so all in all - I think its a nice purchase that you won't likely regret! Rory did look great in that dress, they sure do put the actresses on that show in a lot of MJ - I think Loralei (sp?) still carries around an MJ bag, no?
Hey there, I like both the top and the dress, but quite frankly I'd go for the dress, because you can wear it in summer OR put a nicely cut white long sleeved top under it in winter and wear it with stockings and boots. You can't lose with a dress!
Don't buy it!!!! I bought an Ana Sui dress 2 spring seasons ago. It's got this distinct pinstripe print accented with black embroidery. Only to find out three months later that a chinese factory duplicated it!!!! Eventually everyone else wore almost the same thing. At less than half the price!!!!
I'd go for the top as generally tops are always more versatile than dresses and easier to incorportate into each season's new wardrobes, e.g. layering, etc. The pattern is distinctive but not distinctive enough to scream " this was the same top i wore during SS06!" next year. The price...well, I suppose you would expect to pay that much for MJ and it's on sale too.I'd say go for it!
It has a wonderfully vintage feel to it. If vintage can stand the test of fashion I guess it would. It is absolutely gorgeous. Do you love it on you though? It looks like it may not be too flattering to some body types.
The top is going to be a lot more versatile... than the dress. And the dress doesnt look that cute

btw, model has yellow toned complexion, rory has pink undertones, so they do not have same complexion. also, model has bronze-y hair, rory's hair is chocolate.
I love both those garments; ESPECIALLY the dress. But my pragmatic side rarely lets me buy trendy things if they're on sale at the end of a season, because that's a sign that they'll look outdated in a short while.
The dress for sure! Dress has a nice bit of retro feel to it (at least on Rory) but the top doesn't so I think the dress will last longer. But you can't go wrong with anything MJ. i still wear silk tops from MJ I bought 3 seasons ago and it still looks awesome.
i love dresses, but thats just me...again, i don´t think it is soooo fabulous, but if you love it and you can afford it, go for it! while you´re young, stylish and have a nice body to show your colthes around...
Don't buy the top. Too expensive and you know it'll end up being one of the many fancy tops a girl gets because we think they're pretty and we try to justify by saying we'll wear it at dressier moments but won't very much at all. Possibly because we have too many such tops and the full rotation means each one really doesn't get worn enough for its value.
I just saw that episode this week :) I immediately figured it was MJ with the cute floral print. Rory looks great in it!
I say get the shirt. $100 and some is not too much considering it is silk (and Marc). In later seasons, since it is a bold floral, just layer under a plain cardigan or blazer. Simple. And I think it's really versatile between night and day too.
