Du Juan in FW06 Ads

Du Juan (Nationality: Chinese)-The first Asian model to really break out. Hye Park (Nationality: Korean) was already considered successful in terms of Asian models working in the high fashion world, but Du Juan is the one who managed to secure an impressive number of FW06 ads.

Du Juan trained to be a dancer when she was young, but according to articles/ interviews of her, she just wouldn't stop growing tall, so she became a model. (She also won some beauty contest thing.)

And bam! everyone fell in love with her after the high-profile and very first Vogue China cover, also starring Gemma Ward. (Remember back when the cover was first released, I said she was my fav Chinese model on the cover?)

Anyways, so since then, she's been a staple of Vogue China. Also, she's started to appear on runways and this season, quite a few campaigns. Du Juan's FW06 ad portfolio includes:

Gap -She doesn't really look like her in the ad, but it's her. I suppose this is Gap's attempt to reach out to more people, although I'm not sure the whole Gap using low-profile high-fashion models campaign worked.

Roberto Cavalli -I love Du in this campaign. So dramatic and cool.

Swarovski -Sensual, (where is the jewelry on her?)

Louis Vuitton -Another loveable campaign, this one featuring Du and Raquel. Not that you can really see Du's face in the ad, but still. She's like a Vuitton bag hanger in this ad! I wasn't so sure about it at first, but it grew on me!

YSL -Du's outfit here isn't exactly my fav, but it's impressive she managed to get high fashion ads at all. Actually, the contrast between the background and her outfit is pretty cool.

Although according to thefashionspot forums, Du Juan so far, does not seem to have any SS07 campaigns yet. Let's hope she's not a one-hit-wonder!

Ive said before - and i'll say it again - "I am sooo glad Asian models are getting recognition!" Du Juan is definitely an inspiration. Though i have to say - there probably arent a lotta asian models out there since most of us were cursed with SHORTNESS.

I wonder how tall she is...

you forgot Ai Tominaga!!!
She's my favorite asian model ever (unless Devon Aoki counts as Asian)

I actually don't like Du Juan that much. I loved her Cavalli ads and she's done a few really nice eds, but when I first saw her on the runway she didn't stand out much, and that kind of stuck with me. Oh well, she's definately getting better in her photographed work...

her face, neck and west are totally unbalanced.
it's kind of weird so her outfit doesn't look splendid as raquel's.

I absolutely love Du Juan, she is one of my fav models of all time! she has such beautiful, sculpted features - the LV ad is actually one of my favs because even though you can't see most of her face, you can tell it's her. She's distinctive. Love her!

^ Yeah, Hye Park is the other big Asian model right now. Not as pretty as Du Juan, but she has more a runway presence I think. And, I read in this month's Vogue that she is Andre Leon Talley's favorite model.

Du Juan , not many people in CHina recognise her nor do they thin kshes beautiful most asian models aren't really classically beautiful at all , their just a stereotype of what chinese should look like. Although I <3 Du a lot , and I think shes rather pretty , and have you realised that it is mostly chinese people like gong li , ziyi zhang and lucy liu that break it into the U.S.. maybe its because a lot of westerners think all asians look chinese

I usually don't post comments but this blog is an exception. I love fashion and I am Vietnamese. I am very excited with asians moving in to the fashion world more, proving that we are also beautiful. There was an article about Asian models in the most recent Teen Vogue if anyone wants to check it out. Thanks so much!

Du Juan is completely unrecognisable with make up! Seriously she looks boring and she really isn't a conventional classical beauty but deffinitely better than most of the other asian models out there, it seems the western world wants the asian models to look really really asian , bot beautiful

Du Juan is for sure one of the most successful Chinese model ever internationally and what is more important is that she is leading the way and doing it in such a nice way.

She is super nice and the success does not go to her head.

Recently there were articles about her from the HK press that quoted her as saying that she think she is a top model herself.

I was at that interview and it is such full of shit. The HK press are the worst and they try to trick you and when they write they put things out of context to make it more sensational.

The interview was right after the press conference for a Dior sponsored Ballet Ball Fund Raising event. Du Juan was the guest of honor together with Mischa Barton.

Since Du was a ballet dancer for many years and many of the dancer in the HK group were her classmates she really wanted to support this and in fact flew all the way from New York to attend just that night and had to fly back the next day. She really wanted to do what she can and contribute.

At the press conference instead of asking questions relevant to this the HK press just keep harrasing her about the recent news about models being too thin and now being able to work in Spain and keep asking her what her BTI or BVI or whatever was something about body index who the hell knows such thing on the top of their heads!!!!

Anyway then they mentioned another Chinese Model who is now quite visible in HK as she is dating Aaron Kwok a HK pop start. That is when the HK press ask if she would like to come to HK more and maybe also meet someone and she will be more popular. What a rude question in the frist place and of course she was shock and told them why they always ask such questions and she said that she feels she has achieved as a model and that she can rely on her own will and hardwork.

But when the HK press printed it they made it seem like she said she is already a top model and does not need to come to HK.

What Asss.......

What a shit and harrassment from the HK press, shame on them, and I heard that Du will appear on the Times magazine soon, and it is first times for them to show a Asian supermodel!!! a new era for Du Juan!

DU Juan is boring and acts boring and looks boring, and if she were any more interesting or have anything to offer other than "i was a ballet dancer" then the HK press or even Mainland press would be remotely interested in her. Fact is, I've seen TV footages of her from China and my first impression was she comes off as VERY arrogant, aloof, and generally cold. Blinded by success, I guess. The girl asked her something about jewelry and Du Juan kind of jeered "well OF COURSE all girls love jewelry" and gave her this sideway look. i was like WTF??!?!

Why are you calling her Du? As a Chinese person, you know very well that that is her surname and not her name. Why would you fake it?
