My First Online-Buy

Hmm, how to start? OK, to begin with, I am extremely cautious shopper. I analyse over every little detail of item -like the colour, the cut, the weight, the practicality, how often will I wear it, when will I get sick of it etc., until even my parents get fed up with me and tell me to just buy whatever it is. Also, even though I spend an abnormally large amount of my line window-shopping online all the time, I have never been brave enough to actually buy anything online -that was until a few weeks ago.

So a few weeks ago at the end of my Christmas break, I was looking through the net-a-porter sale. I looked at clutches first, since I figured if I was ever to buy anything online, it would be a bag, and clutches are usually cheaper than other types of bags. Plus I haven't bought an evening bag in almost two years and I'm terribly picky. So imagine my surprise when the first 'sale' page that I looked, there was a Miu Miu clutch that I actually liked and most importantly, it was affordable! So after imagining myself using it for a few days, encouragement from my sister and mum, and knowing that net-a-porter is extremely trust-worthy, I clicked the buy button.
The package arrived one day later than estimated, but it was all good. The clutch turned out a tiny bit smaller than I thought -it could just fit my already-tiny Samsung mobile phone. But I have come to accept that it is one of those little lipstick clutches. I love the velvet, which makes it look so classy. It's small, chic and girl-looking without being too cutsey. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. Now I really feel like I'm living in the twenty-first century!

Tell me about your online-shopping (or online-window shopping) experiences! Are you as obsessed as I am?

I am a freak about online shopping.... having had only wonderful experiences at net porter and others...but I still put it in the shopping bag, proceed to checkout, then chicken out, and then I repeat this albeit annoying process until I have finally convinced myself it's worth it, and then, I'll finally go through with it...after many torture-filled attempts. I guess if my heart is true...blah blah blah

I bought the larger blue version. I loved this one too but it was just too small! I got a lot of stuff from that sale hehe.

I'm an internet shopping junkie and NAP was where I purchased my first designer bag, a Marc Jacobs tote. If you get hooked on e shopping, Matches boutiqe (London) now has an outstanding website. Don't even get me started with Marni.com OOOOOHHHHHH!

I actually haven't experienced the thrill of online shopping. I wanted to buy a Gucci knockoff for about $200, I basically never got my package nor my money back. The owner of the website soon shut down the website. It was horrible, but your clutch is really cute!

Avoid shopping for designer bags at Amazon.com, I once got a prada bag which turns out to be a mouldly fake one... yikes.

They claim that the bags are authentic but I guess unless you get the special limited versions one over the internet, you can never be too sure.

I think I'm similiar to you, I'm never brave enough to buy anything! I spend a lot of time "online window shopping," and even though I don't buy anything, it always helps when I see it in stores so I can compare colour, price etc. I just think it's a hassle when I can usually find the items in stores, and worries of fit and returns..

Plus, I KNOW I'll get addicted if I start! But congrats on the Miu Miu!

I love looking at clothes online. Malls kind of bug me. The only downside is shipping, but sometimes it's worth it. I've found that Urban Outfitters stuff is normally cheaper online than in the store.

i love shopping online - probably too much. i have decent shopping where i live, but not a lot of brands/stores i would like. it just makes it so much easier as a student to gain exposure to clothing i wouldn't otherwise see.

i'm lucky that i fit true to my size in almost everything, so i've never ordered something and hated it. in high school i actually bought two prom dresses online! and they were both gorgeous and fit perfectly - imagine that!

What a great little bag! I really didn't love the look of that texture in the leather versions Miu Miu did, but in velvet it looks great.

My online addiction? Zappos.com. How can you not love a place that sends you shoes for free, lets you return them for free if they don't fit, and delivers them right to your door in no time flat. Like Christmas every day. What more could you want.

I love shopping online for clothes and makeup. I like makeup counters once in a while, but I find them so suffocating, full of people pushing stuff on you whether its a new perfume or yet another eyeliner. And not all sales girls are good at what they do! Anyways, I love shopping online! I do buy bags and shoes in person, though. I love eluxury.com and beauty.com.

Be careful with online shopping. I overdid it a few years ago and am paying back mounds of debt (seriously, more than you can imagine). Now I spend my time online window shopping, with just as much satisfaction. Over the years I've found some adorable tiny, quirky online boutiques that I"ll occasionally purchase from, but I now prefer shopping in real stores, where I can try things on and save money on returns (which, at one point, despite managing free shipping from the shops, cost me over $100/month alone -- an expensive hobby!).

I was always wary of online shopping, too. But I finally made my first online purchase of a fabulous cocktail dress a few months ago at a boutique site -- shopthejuice.com -- and I was pleasantly surprised how well it went, they even gave a phone number to call which made me feel a lot better. Now I can't get enough ... I love it!

I'm addicted to online shopping. All four years of highschool, I had my father's Visa number memorized. I'm a midwestern girl from a moderately small city, and when I still lived in the midwest, the only way to escape the "Abercrombie and Fitch stockholder" look was the internet. I just bought (at retail! ack!) a Trovata top and a Velvet Graham and Spencer dress from www.activeendeavors.com, got them shipped fast and free, and feel like I look cute in both. The internet has been my style salvation!

Online shopping is saving me TONS of money! Like I recently found $49 earnets sewn harlan jeans. Isn't that just crazy?

I've bought at so many online stores and have never had any issues. Love it.

The first time I bought something online was when I wanted this graphic tee on Threadless. Best t-shirt store ever, full of witty designs! Who says t-shirts can't be chic?

Shopping online has made my life so much easier. I'm an expat so getting top quality brands sent internationally is important. I have bought everything from books to shoes and never had a problem. I usually start by checking out the stores on the site www.sendit.to
It has many of the stores mentioned above.

I am ADDICTED to online shopping! It really is so wonderful once you get over the initial fear. And while yes you may get burned once in awhile, the rewards of a successful online purchase will far out way any bad experiences. I recently purchased a beautiful, blue, quilted, venetian, Marc Jacobs online! The bag retails for $1200 and I purchased the bag for a whooping 300 quid! Does it get any better...

I LOVE online shopping. Even though I live in the centre of London I work very long hours and just never have the time/inclination to go to a 'real' shop. I get pretty much everything online- clothing, shoes, makeup, books, groceries, electrical, everything! I love NAP and find them particularly useful, especially as they do same day delivery if you are in London. And so much less tedious than having to schlep to Selfridges / HN / Bond Street. I am also very fussy so I know what you mean, but again fit true to my size so it's never been a problem. For the absolute ease of things it's unbeatable.

As a male I am not suppose to be a shopaholic, but I am. I am addicted to online buying. I tell myself after each purchase that this is the last one, and then a day later I find myself buying something else.

Hi. My name is Mandi, and I'm actually a college student at Conestoga in Kitchener, Ontario (Canada). I'm currently writing a magazine article as a school assignment on the addiction of online shopping, because I myself absolutely love shopping online. So, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would like to answer a couple of questions on the topic. Please email or facebook me at: mandicartwright@hotmail.com

Thank you so much.
The first draft of this assignment is due March 23, so if you could get back to me before then that would be great. Also, please note that no one will be reading this article except for my teacher, so you don't have to worry about people hearing your life story.
THANKS!

Mandi

I also shopping online to get more benefits than traditional shopping. For example BostonProper.com is a store where I bought discounted apparel and clothing products.
