64th Golden Globes Awards Fashion: The Uglies
After all the ooh and ahhing yesterday, its time for the 'uglies'! In Hollywood, or at least all these female stars, none of them can be classified as ugly. They're all prettier than any of us. But when I call them 'uglies' here, I mean that their dresses are either really ugly or doesn't suit them, or they could have easily looked prettier. First comes the ugly dresses:
Venessa Williams -Oh my. She usually looks so fabulous on Ugly Betty. What the heck happened? The hair! The uncomplimenting fur coat. And that dress and skin tone makes her body look like Victoria Beckham's! She looks way more evil here than on Ugly Betty!
Jennifer Love Hewitt -I've never really been a fan of her dress choices, but this dress is just terrible and old-looking. It would be nice to see her wear some flattering colours for a change.
Beyonce -Again, I've never been a fan of her clothes. But eek! That Ellie Saab dress is so gold, so shiny and SO tacky. This is the Golden Globes, not Showgirl.
Courtney Cox -She is so gorgeous, especially for her age. Which is why it is such a pity she chose such an unpleasant dress. The black lace material on top has a weird pattern on it.
Nicollette Sheridan -I usually love black and white, but this is dress is just wrong.
Becki Newton -My favourite newcomer this tv season. She's absolutely hilarious and gorgeous on Ugly Betty. One of the reasons why I watch Ugly Betty is for her performance and all those cute office outfits she wears. Anyways, not that she looks terrible in this green dress, it's just that there's something not quite perfect about it. I reckon it's the cutting -the bottom half of the dress could be better.
Heidi Klum -The dress just looks like a white sheet wrapped around her. Simple in an unstylish way. A dress is bad when even a top model couldn't carry it off.
Angelina Jolie -She is so gorgeous, so maybe that's why she looked decent enough in this unflattering dress, or why no one dared to make a comment about that dress. I've read so many reports on how the grey dress matches her grey eyes, or something like that. But I've also read that Angelina wasn't happy about the dresses St. John made for her and St. John had to rush-make new ones for her. All I can say is, this dress was made by St. John. Period.

it's true that jolie hasn't been happy with the recent work of st. john, and considering who she is and what she's done, i would be a diva and wouldn't be happy with that either! it sucks that she signed with people who are making her "almost decent" dresses. st. john is for OOOOOLLLLLLDDDDD people! she's lucky she's gorgeous enogh to pull it off, but i know she could have looked so much prettier!

and to the first commenter--that dress IS elie saab. beyonce didn't look nice at all at the golden globes, but that doesn't mean you can say she looked horrible because she was wearing a dress from her own line. beyonce is definitely a powerhouse and does look very nice most of the time i see her in public. everyone has bad days and the day of the golden globes was beyonce's bad day.
Yes, I agree- Jolie's dress is boring. The colour is nice, but a prettier, more unique cut would have updated it immensely.
I actually like Angelina Jolie's dress, and was very surprised that St. John could churn out such a relatively modern dress. I also agree with Becki Newton's dress, it looked like a traditional prom dress. Very ho-hum. I thought Beyonce's dress was great, but probably more suitable for the MTV awards rather than the Golden Globes. As for Jennifer Love Hewitt, the dress emphasizes her shortness too.
Anyone think that Angelina Jolie wore that dress because she's possibly hiding a baby bump???

Completely agree with all your picks for ugliest dresses. About Nicolette Sheridan...I think everything above her knees looks so sexy and gorgeous; it's just the fish tail that uglifies the whole outfit. And Beyonce! Normally, she always looks so chic and urban at the same time...here, so just looks skanky.

I love Angelina but that dress is hideously unflattering, and I think she knows it. Poor girl, she's always so victimised and then they won't even let her look good on globes night! I really hope she says screw you to St John for the oscars and comes out in something more like that gooorgeous diamante-encrusted slip she wore a few years back, or something green even to bring out her eyes... anything but flat and awful grey!!!
Oh and Jennifer Love Hewitt is a huge arsed little munchkin and is Heidi Klum pregnant again? If she is I like her dress. If she isn't, it's awful.
beyonce's dress really bothered me, even though she DOES look undeniably hot. i felt like she's worn that same dress 50 times before. it's like "we know you're bootylicious. we know you're dress is bright gold and rediculously sparkly. we know jennifer hudson kicked your ass in dream girls and you're trying to compensate. WE KNOW."

Beyonce is so tacky. She's made all kinds of horrible mistakes lately, but at least this time she wasn't wearing a micro-mini dress that barely covers her bosom. And thank goodness she doesn't let her mom dress her anymore. *shudder*
I totally agree with you on all your worst dressed (I said that beyonce was worst dressed on my blog too). It's strange though, on the Today show the beloved Tim Gunn said he thought Jennifer Love Hewitt and Beyonce were some of the best dressed that night!!

I agree, Venessa Williams and Nicolette Sheridan look awful. And I'm rarely a fan of anything Jennifer Love Hewitt has on. Beyonce went way too overboard on the metallics, and Becki Newton's dress would've looked nice had it had a bit more structure.
well vanessa william's look was a bit off, the dress and the coat to me is not something completely weird cause i've seen the olsen twins wearing fur coats with dresses. I'm beginning to think that on older people the way the skin sags a bit can make someone look thinner.
Jennifer love hewit is such a sweetheart that i can never see her as ugly. That supermodel with the white dress, well she did have a baby a couple weeks ago so perhaps she was not in the mood to be all glamorous. Beyonce- i'm getting tired of her to be honest, her line is not all that great and they had said in an interview that the line was for the everyday people; i went online to look at it and some regular t-shirts costing way more than it should be.
Angeline- i think she looked nice.

Beyonce Golden Globe dress and her acting are both horrible, but Beyonce's younger sister can act kind of good. I am so glad Jennifer Hudson look beautiful and she took the Golden Globe, instead of Beyonce. I am a big fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt especially when she acted in "Heart Breakers", but I do not love her dress. Vanessa Williams is a beautiful black women,but her dress was not beautiful.

I agree with most of the blog's criticisms on bad dresses. Though I though Angelina was not so bad, but her whole outfit and composure really came together to make her look absolutely stony. Maybe a smile would have done wonders! What disturbed me a bit, which has gone below everyone's radar is how weird sharon stone looked. She seemed all pinched up as if she had stepped out from a nip-tuck clinic.
