Flared Jeans

For the past year, I've been imagining myself in a pair of plain, black, flared jeans and a simple top. For one thing, flared jeans, in my mind, form part of the going-to-college image. Another thing is, even though I've been favouring the long top and straight/ skinny jeans look in the last year or two, I've got short tops that just don't go well with skinny jeans.

But apparently, finding a pair of such simple jeans was a lot harder than I thought. I visited Barney's, Saks and Neiman Marcus near Rodeo Drive and hardly found any bootcut jeans available -All they had were skinny or high waisted, wide-legged jeans.

So I lowered my expectations and decided that I would even settle for a pair of washed, boot-cut jeans (like the Citizens of Humanity ones above.) In San Francisco, even though the new Bloomingdale's offered a wider selection of jeans, I still couldn't find my dream pair. Luckily, one of you readers suggested I go to the Blues Jean Bar -I loved it there! (Thanks for suggesting I go there btw.) You tell the saleslady what you're looking for and the size and they just pull out a few choices from their shelves. Normally I would hate a store that doesn't organise its clothes by brand names, but this is one exception.
One of the saleslady's recommendation was the new J Brand's Lovestory jeans, (technically, low-rise bell-bottom jeans.) The saleslady wasn't sure about them since they looked more like pants than jeans, but I tried them on and love them! The material is really elastic and they're tight on top and flares out at the knees, so they're comfortable, fits well and look good. If you haven't worn a pair of flared jeans in a while, go try a pair on! It's such a refreshing feeling, (and perhaps slightly odd since it's been awhile.) (I found out later that Kate Moss supposedly wore them in blue recently.)

The truth is, finding jeans that match what you want isn't actually that difficult -just go onto www.shopbop.com. But I'm one of those careful people and I wouldn't buy jeans unless I've tried them on, meaning that I'm limited to the choices sold in shops. Anyways, anyone else been trying on flared jeans again recently? And I don't mean bootcut, I mean flared!

yes i have.. if you are really on a budget Fire jeans are good. you can find then at nordstrom for around $40.. dirt cheap! they are cute and don't look inexpensive at all if you get a pair in a dark wash.

btw love your blog! keep up the good work!

I have mixed feelings about flairs...but those are adorable!

And J Brand is amazing. There jeans fit so well, hold up nicely after many washings and are extremely comfortable!

I hate Kohl's but I bought a cute pair of their "so..." brand jeans (the store brand, I guess). Anyway, I bought a pair in black, for only $9.99! What a steal.

I haven't worn them yet though, any suggestions on what tops and shoes to wear with them?

I'm not sure if i can pull off that kind of style. Those jeans would require a tight fitting top to match it. I'm so used to loose tops and skinny jeans.

I shopped Target's after-holidays sales last year and found bootcut and flared dark wash jeans for $17 on the sale/clearance rack. They fit well and I got lots of compliments.

i lost a lotta weight this summer so my skinnys from last year are all too loose for me now, so i have been trying on my old flared jeans, which i love, especially when worn with flats becuase they dont make my feet look big!

I love the flared jeans look. I got a nice cheap pair from American Eagle ($49). Also Luck Brand Jeans has some really great flared and trouser type jeans. The trouser types are called the Manhattan Trouser and they also have the Sundown Wide leg. They're other jeans tend to have a cute flare on the bottom. Low rise, mid rise-doesn't matter...really cute. I know cuz I work there...lol.

Are there websites that won't allow you to return items that don't fit? I see that Shopbop.com does allow returns... I can understand if people don't want to pay return shipping fees, but usually I can find free shipping offers and the return (often with a label included by the site) is only about $5-$8US. Many places, including Nordstrom.com, do free exchanges. When I'm having trouble finding exactly what I want, websites are a godsend because I don't have to run around to forty different stores. Also, my body is difficult to fit and some online-only sites (victoriassecret.com, especially) are among the very few places where I can find clothes that fit me properly.

I love flared jeans too. I found my old flared levi's and just love how it 'sways' whenever I walk. And they gave you also a special 'curvy' look somehow...

Anonymous and Katie, you're not the only ones. I looked at skinny jeans and decided they were not for me. I'm a curvy black chick with big hips and bum and I had this feeling skinny jeans would make my legs look like turnips (humongous at top, skinny at bottom?). After I came home from England last year, I realised the trend had caught on here in Barbados and I saw I was RIGHT! Tons of big hipped girls looking ridiculous in skinny jeans.

Long live flares, I say. I think they provide balance and look good on nearly everyone.

Oh and HG I agree with you about shopping for jeans in person. I find jeans too tricky to buy without trying on first.

I love flares but I can never find shoes to go with them. Does one wear ballet flats? Boots? I dont have a clue.

I bought flared jeans for the first time a few days ago at a Marshals store for 19.99!!!

The fabric is in dark navy and looks like denim but is really soft and fine so the pants are almost as elegant as a pair of trousers.

I've always had a bit of a complex about my thighs (I'm only 5"4 and quite curvy on the bottom) but I'm in 125 now and I feel a lot more confident about my body so I decided to try them on and surprise, they look super elegant and my legs look a lot longer.

I'm aware that I'll have to wear them with heels (the ones I have are not too high but I guess they'll have to do for now).

I was just wondering what kind of top I could match them with; my logic tells me to put on a rather skinny top...

Any suggestions???

Thanks anyone...

To be able to store your files on SISTERS or saving a copy of it on disks, of course, you need to have a SISTERS DVD drive, where you can put your disk and copy files on it. These times when the floppy disks are seen to be obsolete, PCs usually have SISTERS DVD COLLECTION drives which are also useful in installing programs, drivers, and especially your operating system.
