Hair Serum

Shiny smooth hair. The best accessorie a girl can have. How do we achieve it? Well, we've been told (and I'm sure all of you have too) that hair serum does the trick by adding shine and de-frizzing, to create a shiny sheen of hair. But how many of you have actually achieved the perfectly shiny and smooth hair look simply by applying hair serum to damp hair and letting it air dry? I know I haven't. Hair serum just takes you half way and for the full effect a team of professionals and weeks of intense hair treatment are probably needed. Nevertheless, to make sure that we DO get half way and not have hair that resembles dry hay, a good hair serum is essential. Here are a few that I've tried.
On recommendation from HG and a friend, I tried the Kerastase Vernis Nutri Sculpt this summer. But while it did deliver shine and made my hair feel soft, it also seem to make my hair feel more heavy. So I'm not a great fan of it now, perhaps I should save it for the winter months when my hair will need maximum protection from the heaters.....Currently I am using the Biosilk Silk Therapy Serum, which I've heard many swear by. It indeed defrizzes and softens.... but I personally don't find it as spectacular as the talk made it sound like. Especially for that price, I'd rather get my old one...
....which was the Bain de Terre Recovery Complex, Silky Shine Serum. Similar effect with a marginally lower price tag, I liked this one better because I felt like the texture had more consistency. Once I forgot to shake the Biosilk before I used it and a whole load of liquid came pouring out, catching me completely off guard.

So here is my tidbit on hair serum, from my very limited experience. What does everyone else use in an attempt to achieve the shiny smooth hair?

Ps. A neat trick to defrizzing (for me anyway), is to put almost dried hair (+serum) in a bum and just leave it to dry that way. Once released, you'll get a nice wave and minimal poofiness.

Frieda's Frizz Ease always does the trick for me. I have very curly hair and it always gets shiny smooth and doesn't feel heavey.

Hm...I'm going to have to give tha Biosilk stuff a whirl. Sounds good.

I love Bed Head/TIGI's Control Freak serum. It has little pieces of mica in it to make your hair even shinier. Plus I always end my shower with a shot of cold water on my hair.

i use bedhead too, but the girl toys product, which is similar to control freak but is more for shine + end control vs frizz + straightening.

i have very typically asian hair, thick & straight-ish but w/ a bad wave that i have to flat-iron out. it's coarse so the serum helps add more shine & also tame it.

BG - i also find i can't use the serum w/o the added control my hair appliance adds. Anonymous - are you able to use the control freak by itself w/o the aid of your flat iron?? if so i think i need to switch to that from girl toys...

I've tried Biosilk, it's OK. (Can buy it pretty cheap at Costco.) But once I tried CHI Silk Infusion, I've never looked back. I have super long hair, and a little is all I need to keep my hair looking nice all day. I've been using the same bottle now for over a year (and I'm not even close to running out). Here in the States you can find it discounted at Nordstrom's Rack, and sometimes Ulta.

I love the smoothing fluid from Aveda. It's so lightweight and natural-feeling (meaning, you can't tell you're using it) but it really smoothes and shines, and I have thick straw-like hair. It also smells great, and a $30 US bottle lasts me 6 months.

I actually use Dove Frizz Ease i think it's called and it's amazing. You use it on dry hair and it's awesome. After I straighten my hair it looks like i had it professionally blown out because it's super silky and smooth. Try it! It's in a white bottle with a blue pump cap. And it's cheap

I've never used Kerastase's Olea-Relax before, but after reading many good things about it, I recommended it to a friend and she tried it. It made her hair look amazing and sleek and shiny. Def worth a try.

My hair is naturally poofy, frizzy, and looks like a triangle set atop my head. I know that this isn't really a 'hair serum,' but my miracle product is Sunsilk Anti-Poof 24/7 Creme. I put quite a bit in as soon as I get in the shower, just a little when it's in the middle of drying, and a touch more once it's dry. Then I put on Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum, and my hair is perfect. No one believes how poofy my hair is naturally!!! :)

Oh, and I've tried the Kerastase stuff. I use it sometimes, but I agree my hair feels heavy (and sometimes even a little sticky) when I use it.

I currently use Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum. It smells like jasmine so that's a plus after using Biosilk for awhile. Bain de Terre was recommended by my stylist. It's great too!

i am a toni and guy devotee - shampoo, conditioner, serum and shine mist. their moisture injection range is really good especially during the winter when my hair needs it the most. their straightening serum is really thick tho, one squeeze is enough to achieve a good blowout for me (i have pretty long hair, almost halfway down my back, although it must be said that i'm asian and hence have relatively straight hair although it is by no means fine) their shine mist though, is a winner, it really gives my hair this lovely sheen and doesn't weight it down. i definitely recommend it!

A great product that I'm in love with is Dirt by Jonathan. It smooths out the frizz and leaves you with a non-greasy shine. Oh god, I sound like an advertisement.

Hair serum or silk drops makes your hair even shiner and glossier than it used to be. You won’t encounter tangled hair once this is applied as this protect your hair from possible damages
