SPF Hand Cream
*Gasp* I just read the most horrifying article in this issue of Elle (Feb, p190): Gloves Off, where the writer goes to investigate the newest procedure for hand rejuvenation. The doctor basically injected *wince* her hands with the latest plumpers, Radiesse, which is supposed to be more long lasting. The after effect was her hands looked 10 years younger as it lessened the ropey appearance of her veins and filled out the hollow spaces between her tendons. A few hours later however, her hands were swollen and in pain- which apparently is perfectly normal and lasted for about a week. Apart from that she later found out that if they hit the wrong place, injecting these things into your hands will also lead to permanent swelling *shiver*.
After THAT horrifying article, I realized that in my craze to buy sunscreens for my face, I'd forgotten about my hands- which in all respects are exposed to sunlight as much as my face is! Sunscreens from all sources is after all the one most effective way we can protect ourselves from aging. And so I've decided that it is time I got myself some hand cream with SPF! In my googling I realized that there really weren't that many hand creams with SPF. But here are a few that I've found. On the high end, there is Lancome and Clarins.
In the medium range, there are Kiehl's and Boots. I think I may try the Kiehl's one, because it also claims that it is, "Unusually rich but not greasy at all," which sounds intriguing. But then again it only has SPF 10.
And in the drugstores, we have our ever trusty Neutrogena and Dove brand of SPF sunscreen. I wonder how much SPF is sufficient for the hands...most of the ones listed here have SPF 15 (besides Dove with SPF 5 and Kiehl's with SPF 10).

Aging is natural and normal. Injecting shyte into your body is not.

Neutrogena is really good!
SPF 35 filters 95% of harmful UV rays. And SPF 40 filters out 97% and so on. Since most of the products in your post contain only SPF 10-15, maybe it's better to buy a good body sunscreen (SPF 35 and up)and apply it in addition to moisturizer.
I agree with the above post. Just get something oil free so it doesn't feel greasy.
No to oil, I feel a theme of the day
Hey u have a great blog. Would u like to link?
Great post and good timing - I've been wearing cream on my hands at night since they have been very dry looking. I need to add SPF into my day routine on my hands, too.
One of my teachers today recommended doing two things regularly for beauty--flossing and wearing sunscreen, especially on face and hands. :D I agree with the 4th poster on using a body sunscreen with SPF 35 or higher as most hand lotions' SPF aren't very high.
I absolutely love the Kiehl's creme! It's so true...grease is not a factor! And I normally put on sunscreen with a much higher SPF after- normally with SPF after I normally pass it on my face, I just rub it in my hands (I always squeeze out too much anyway). And I always use SPF 50 (I know too much but 1. i'm a paranoid freak 2. I was once told that darker skinned people should use a higher SPF since we're more likely to get skin cancer for some reason).
But anyways..I personally recommend Kiehls!

The Lancome hand cream is horrible. It's so greasy and really doesn't sink in. I bought it and never used it. I really love Kiehl's creams. I've never used the hand cream before but I've heard good things about it. Their face cream moisturizes tons and sinks in fast.
the neutrogena norweigan formula hand cream is really really moisturizing!! i started buying the non spf version (i didnt know there was one with spf) a couple years ago when i got excema on my legs and it helped it go away super fast and now my legs and hands are really smooth! one thing though, (im assuming this applies for the spf verion as well as the regular) its really really sticky so im not sure i would recommend it for day...which would defeat the purpose of spf. it does soak in but it takes a while so i usually put it on before bed so that it doesnt matter if my hands are sticky cuz im just gonna sleep anyways. but if ur also looking for a good super moisturizing night hand cream this is a good one
I as well never realized there was a hand cream with SPF. We all emphasize so much on our faces that sometimes we neglect the other parts of our bodies that are equally as important. Great information! Love the site!
so many people forget to look after their hands but the hands are one of the most important parts of your body, they say so much about you. I love the barielle products especially. You can buy their deluxe hand and body lotion online at this Beauty Products store.
Kiehls is amazing.
It DOES moisturize really well without leaving behind a greasy feeling.
I'd highly recommend it!

Try rubbing a little egg-yolk into fine lines below the eyes for that fresh morning feeling. Or if you're feeling decadent, drizzle a little fish oil around the chops. ~R.R.
I too use this to keep my hands soft. I apply it whenever hands feel in need of moisture, especially after washing them.
I suppose everyone must browse on this.
