Clip on Bangs

For a while now, I've wondered what I'd look like with straight bangs. When I found out that my friend managed to avoid the whole "awkward" growing out stage when she got tired of her straight bangs by getting extensions, I seriously considered getting them.I mean, doesn't Alexis Bledel look sooo cute and pretty with straight bangs? Of course, I know that what works for Alexis might not work for me, but I figured that since I have a long face and already have side bangs anyway, I can't go too wrong with straight bangs. I am kind of want to get a new look anyway. Alas, the the prospect of regular maintenance, the fear that it won't suit me after I've cut it and my upcoming graduation (and therefore I don't want to do anything to screw up my hair), stopped me from getting straight bangs.
The other day, flicking through my cousin's teen magazines, I saw the most interesting thing: clip on bangs. How smart! How come I didn't think of that before? So, the next time I went to get my hair done, I consulted my hairstylist, Roy, on the use of clip on bangs. He said that he sometimes used them when they are on location and don't have that much time to style hair properly and that they used it for hair product ads (I was very disappointed to find out that the long, shiny, silky locks models have in hair product ads are fake). He told us that they actually sold them a few blocks away from the salon. At that, HG and I immediately headed over there to get one each. I even brought it back to the hair salon, so Roy can give my clip on bangs a trim. He actually made me go back to return them, because the ones I got were too short. He advised me to get longer clip on bangs. That way I can clip it further back on my head, so that I can cover up the obvious line where it clips on, with my layers. For the shorter bangs, you'd need to wear a headband or something to cover it up.

Excited I immediately went home to try it on. While the concept of clipping your own fringe back, clipping on the fake fringe at the side (I've pointed out the clips with the blue arrow above) and then covering it with your layers sounds very simple, it turns out to be a very difficult task. Trust me, I've given it many many tries over the last 2 weeks and have still to master it. I am tempted to blame it on my inability to use a bobby pin, but I'm beginning to suspect that they are just impossible to put on properly. First it is very hard to clip it onto your hair, because it needs to grasp onto some hair first (difficult to explain properly, but the point is, its hard!). Then, when you DO get it clipped on, it is NOT STRAIGHT. And you cannot have straight bangs that are not straight. If you DO manage to get it half straight and your real bangs are not falling out at this point, you face the problem of color. Apparently, there are many shades of black. I thought that my hair would be fine, since I already dye it an artificial blue black and the clip on bangs were an artificial black as well. But NO. I took it out for a quick 15 minute test drive this weekend (once I FINALLY got it on half way decently) and took a picture. EWW. Not only was the color a bit off, but I totally looked like I had a MOP on my head. Maybe I just don't know how to get it on right? Anyone tried them?

So yes, my awesome clip on bangs idea turned out not to be such a good idea after all.

i always wanted to try those! i've always wondered what i'd look like with bangs but am terrified to try them. plus my hair is kind of wavy so i'd have to take the time to straighten them every morning so they didn't look messy. well, after reading this i don't feel too motivated to go out and buy some haha.

I am bad enough with a straight iron, I fear what I'd do if forced to try and affix these onto my head. Definatly not a product for me.

You could always try clipping your sideswept bangs to see if how they might look if you cut them.

Am i the only one who thinks bangs are kind of 2007?
Last year i decided to get bangs after 14 years of not getting a haircut with bangs. It was a great decision. Usually bangs make your face look softer (specially if you add some layers) and cute!
Now i think i'm on the verge of cutting my hair short... It's between Keira Knightly 2004 type of short or Kate Holmes type of short.

I'm really scared it's gonna turn out bad.

I don't think those would work for me. Last weekend, I got a new haircut and gave the stylist volition to use her own creativity. She gave me bangs. While they are kinda cute, I am already dreading the growing out phase. Clip on bangs may work, but I can see how it'll be hard to find the best matching bangs, and oy, the embarassment of dancing at a club and your hair just falls down the front of your face. A risk not worth taking. Thanks for your post though!

I got bangs a year ago, and while they're sometimes annoying, it was definitely worth the risk. I actually got them cut exactly like Alexis Bledel's because I look a lot like her and I loved the way hers look. If you really want bangs, you should just go for it! Don't mess with clip-ons.

Oh I saw that in one of my magazines too and thought it was a great idea and actually considered buying some because my bangs are so thin and I wanted thicker ones. That's too bad, maybe I won't try them after all :(. But how much did you get yours for? I have hair extentions that I can put in fine so maybe bang extentions aren't too different

Just wanted to let your readers know. I googled clip in bangs and found a great site that sells them. Sultryhair.com sells clip in bangs made from 100% remy human hair. So I bought them and after trimming them to fit the length I wanted they are perfect. They look so real that everyone thinks I got a new hair cut. I purchased the long clip in bangs in color #1b.

I recently decided that a really trendy change would be great but I have long hair and did not want to commit to a long straight fringe bang. I decided to try the clip on bangs. I got mine from amazon and they worked great! They were long enough and straight across, very heavy and dramatic. With my hair up or down they looked very realistic. You can wash them, flat iron them and color them. They blend in great and gave me exactly the look I wanted. It took a few times to get them in correctly but once I tried it once it was easy after that. They turned out like katie holmes. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a change but knows the hell it is to grown bangs back out. They were called glamour extensions from amazon marketplace. They are 100% human hair and you can get them on ebay too! :)

I recently received my clip in bangs from sultryhair.com and it exceeded my expectations. I purchased them after Glamour Magzine recommended them for clip in bangs. They are great and so natural looking and feeling (they are made from 100% human hair). Seriously no one even knows I am wearing clip in bangs. They last all day, yet are very comfortable and do not fall or slip. On a recent trip to Cancun for the weekend, I left them in all weekend long and did not take them out...I actually forgot I was wearing them. I slept with them in, and even went in the ocean water with them with no problem. I love them. Just letting anyone out there in cyber space know, just in case you're in the market for clip in bangs or hair exetnsions and don't know where to look. I did a lot of research and even bought some other clip in bangs from another site and they were very ugg and so fake looking an felt like plastic even through the site (who will remain nameless) said they were made from human hair. So if you want great clip in bangs check out sultryhair.com. I am positive you will be just as happy as I am with the clip in bangs. They are so neat and cute and I love them. ;)

I just purchased clip in easibangs from hairextensions.com and I absolutely love them! They are human hair bangs with long layers on the sides to help blend them in. Every time I wear them I get compliments on my hair. I did have to cut them to get the look I wanted. These are the best I've seen and they were not very expensive at all. Highly recommend human hair over synthetic, the synthetic ones look fake to me.

bangs are definetly all about face shape and extensions are all about practice. When my hair was growing out, I wore extensions and it took me 3 weeks or more to get used to putting them in. It's not an instant talent trust me! it helps to make a part with your comb them tease the hair a bit below the part, then clip em in. It helps them stay in. Also, straight across bangs look best on heart shaped or oval shaped faces. Don't try them if you have a strong square jaw! Try out the side bang instead. I love my hair with bangs but hate the maintenence so I think these would be perfect for me. Talk to your hairstylists! They really can help!

I've tried several different brands of clip-on bangs. They're awful. They look fake, they're not thick bangs, and I felt like if I turned my head too fast, it would fly off my head. I found this awesome site a couple of months ago called www.headbangerheadbands.com OMG! I'm in LOVE with this product. The bangs are THICK and nobody can tell that they're not MY bangs! My first one, I cut into your "normal" bang. I wanted to try that "side swept" look, so I bought another. The side swept one is my FAVORITE now (but I do mix it up. It depends on my mood!) I go out dancing with my girlfriends and my bangs stay put. Love 'em!

I actually bought some clip on bangs from a great vendor on Ebay. I did lots of looking and checking customer feedback before going out and buying some, which is what lead me to finding some on Ebay. Odd, I know, but Ebay doesn't mean cheap or horrible.

I clipped them on, trimmed it down as best I could (synthetic does not trim easily) but managed to get it looking realistic. The problem with blending does pose as difficult, but the color my hair is and the color they had for black-brown actually worked. The only issue is the shininess, which I'm working on fixing. It's my belief that doing a careful wash will fix this. But the texture and lightness match my real hair perfectly.

I've had bangs in the past and prefer this over cutting my bangs. Since I'm going for waist length hair, I don't want to bother with growing fringe or bangs out again.
