08 Trend: Gold Eyeshadow -Pure Gold

In an attempt to 'live young', I looked into fashion magazines for this season's beauty trend in search for eye shadow ideas, as opposed to my usual eye shadow style (the few times I bother with eye shadow;) Read: brown. If you read every magazine out there for a few months, you would realise that they feature eye shadow of every colour so I ignored the obviously magazine-styled ones, like many shades of green, yellow and blue, and have decided to accept the classy trend: the gold eyeshadow. There are two types. The first one is pure gold.

As you can see, pure gold basically means just plain gold all over the eye lids. The looks above are from the Chanel F/W08 runway show. Obviously I don't recommend you actually taking this look literally in real life.

Another show that had all gold eye shadow was the Bottega Veneta S/S08 show. Here, it looks simple and elegant -perfect for day and night.

A closer look on the eyes. While it looks very effortlessly applied on, I'm sure we wouldn't be able to replicate it quite as well in real life.

The way I'm planning on trying out this look is to first adjust by dabbing a tiny bit of the gold just at the inner corners of the eyes, so it will look as it does in the image above. Just a tiny dab to add a little something to the otherwise plain (but equally elegant) look. After trying it out a few times, I'll move on to try the all-gold look (like in the other Bottega Veneta images, not Chanel!)

So I headed to M.A.C. and found this colour: Goldmine. The makeup lady applied the colour all over my eyelids and honestly, it looked more like sparkly yellow than the pure gold in the Bottega Veneta show. But since it usually takes me a very long time to accept new makeup colours on myself and I wasn't bothered to search for the perfect gold, I just picked a Goldmine up. It's something for me to look foward trying on my next quiet night out.

I'll blog about the other gold eye shadow look soon! Thoughts about this gold look?

gold eyeshadow should be subtle, a little goes a long way. it would be crazy if you swept it all over your entire eyelid.

i like this new trend though, i think i will pick up some gold-coloured pigments next time i go shopping!

I think gold shadow is a great trend.
You have to be careful to pick the right shade for you though, as with any other shadow.
you dont want to look ridiculous!

Try MAC's Retrospeck eyeshadow. It's a very buildable, true gold color.

I love Gold! It's a hard look to pull off if not worn with the 'right' accesories or accents but I think shades of gold work on almost any skin colour. I like to wear it in a more subtle way but kudos to those who can rock it like the 80's.

Gold eyeshadow makes a huge statement and should be used with minimal makeup. Is better to leave the shiny to just one place in your face. I'm wearing it today!

I've been wearing several shades of gold eyeshadow for quite some time, and I love it. During the day, I wear just a sheer layer of it; it's a great "no makeup" look, since it add just enough color to be visible. The bright yellow gold could be quite fun for a night out.

Mac has great makeup for bringing out the best features. I went to a recent makeover with my sister and mom and was so impressed with how the makeup artists could just take a glance at your skin and come back with the perfect colors. Colors I never would have thought of! Needless to say I was sold.. loved it all.
Thanks for the article.

I have been adding a layer of sheer gold for about a year now. I put it on first at the inner eye and just above the crease. Lately I have been adding purple hues. This combo makes my green eyes pop!

I absolutely adore my gold eyeshadow from Smashbox - it's perfect for going out and subtle enough to look natural during the day too.

The best way to get a "real" gold, and to control the quantity is to go for one of the liquid shadows. Gold is a bit in your face for me (i haven't got my courage up past shades of brown) so I can't recommend a specific colour, but my advice would be - find a liquid gold.

I love the gold. I use sephora's gold from their small metallic set of eye shadows. It goes on great if you wet the brush a little.

Hi Hi...

I have just discovered your blog and Im from Singapore.

Tried on the gold and chocolate eyeshadow combi today and my colleagues noticed and said it looked great! :)

What i used:
I cant find MAC's "Tempting" and "Gold Mine" Apparently they dont carry "Gold Mine" here but "Tempting" will be included in the Cult Cherry collection which will hit Singapore's shores soon.

So i made do with "Dream maker" - From their current Sonic collection and "Dark Chocolate" from Loreal. Effect is about the same...

Great job on this blog! I love it and i visit it religiously everyday!

Love: Adelene from Singapore!
