The Da Vinci Code

As one of the few non-chick lit books I love, naturally I was very excited about the movie. So as soon as it came out, I immediately went to watch it. Contrary to movie critics, as a ordinary movie go-er, I thought the movie was good and definitely doesn't deserve the average C+ rating it has on yahoo movies.

The movie was exciting and intriguing, full of suspense and mystery (even though I already knew what happens)- just like the book. It didn't feel like we'd been sitting there for over 2 hours at all! My most memorable scene was when they were at Sir Teabing's place and just when they were absorbing Sir Teabing's revelations, Silas suddenly pops out from nowhere. My friend and I literally jumped out of our seats! There were funny bits too. The questions Sir Teabing asked them before allowing them entrance was hilarious. Although I understand how the movie might be slightly confusing for people who hasn't read the book. My friend who hasn't read the book yet had that problem and I had to very quietly provide short explanations. But in the end she thought it was a pretty good movie too.

Fashion wise, even though Sophie wore the same thing for the whole movie, I thought her dress shirt under a black cardigan thing was very cute. And kudos to her, for solving the mystery of the holy grail while running away from the French police, in pointy black heels.

Overall I really liked the movie, although its not exactly something so amazing that one would want to watch again in the cinema. I think it deserved at least a B rating.

Have you read Wolves in Chic Clothing yet? I really love the title, and I've wondered if it's good, but I've wanted someone else to read it first and tell me if it's good.
Also, I have a recommendation for you (and I actually have read these): check out Rebel Angels and A Great and Terrible Beauty, both by Libba Bray. They aren't technically chick lit, but basically, that's what they are. They're about a girl with the power to go into these mystic realms, plus she has romantic tension with a really hot guy, and I can't think of anything better than that.

I just felt there was too much dialogue within the movie and not enough action- it didnt live up to the hype it created. Oh, and I really dont think Tom Hanks should've been Langdon!!!!!!

Leigh, I read Wolves in Chic Clothing and found it to be lacking in the plot dept. and more into product namedropping than character development. There has to be better chick lit out there...

I will still see the Da Vinci Code even though the leads were horribly miscast, just to see the locations. I'm a sucker, I know.

I too thought the movie was really good and can you believe I forgot the two main points of the story (the bit about sophie and the bit about the sarcophagus oops). But yea the movie was good and fast paced and I LOVED Sophie's heels! You can tell I was really paying attention when I read the book. But anyyywayz I totally agree. By the way can u guess who this is? I was deeply amused by the Teabing question "in which year did harvard win a boat race against oxford at Henly" to which Langdon replied "surely such an atrocity has never occured!". Personally I reckon they should have inserted CAMBRIDGE instead of OXFORD in the quote, but hey that's just me. Soooo who am I? send me an e-mail if u figure it out! x

Given the reviews the film has garnered, a C rating seems almost generous. Rather agonizing to see so much talent resulting in such dreck.

i haven't read the book, but honestly, after seeing the movie last night, i can only give it a C. not too boring, despite the 149 mins. but tom hanks and audrey tautou haven't done a good job. rather, paul battany and ian mckellen should be praised for their good acting. too bad that hanks and tautou didn't have the chance to make good use of their skills. i won't bother to read the book after seeing the movie.

EVERYONE in the cinema started laughing at how bad it was towards the end, the stupid diaglogue just couldn't be pulled off by Tom Hanks,
"Yes,you are the last living descendent of Jesus Christ." and then she turns to go, and he whispers "God speed."

am i the only one? i actually quite enjoyed the movie! i've read the book and i loved the spy/thriller-ish sneaky turns of the plot which came out a tad confusing in the movie for the guys who didn't watch it, but it's pretty good otherwise...

btw, i think it's totally fine that the ladies of iamfashion comment on movies... i mean, its their blog at the end of the day...

and to keep from rambling, i just have to say also... i noticed the cute pointy high heels too!! =)

If you haven't seen the movie yet, strongly urge you to go ... BUT only after you have read the book. Keep in mind this is FICTION ... or is it?

I think it was low-evaluated because it's not enough detailed like the book, after all, it's hard to talk about all the details in 2 hours. I think all the appearance of character and the props is good, but for people who has read the book, the movie don't satisfy them, and me, too. B is okay.
