The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada is THE movie I most look foward to this summer. Actually, it's the only movie I have looked foward to in a looong time. I still remember how excited I was when I started to read the book. It was supposed to be funny and allowed readers to get an insight to how the fashion magazine world was like. At the beginning, the book really was quite cute. But as I read on, all I could think of was: oh please, it's not like anyone forced the job on you. Please stop whining! So by the end of the book, it was safe to say I found the book annoying.
I've been so excited about this movie that I have already read a LOT of articles about it already. The article I liked the most is not particularly about the movie itself, but about Anna Wintour, (who is the infamous editor of Vogue, for those of you living in a hole). I was going to write a post about what I think about Wintour, but this article sums up my feelings better than what I would have written myself so I go read it at NYT.com: The Devil Wears Teflon.
Basically, it's saying that yes, Wintour is tough and not the easiest boss to work for, but she is amazingly successful and does her part to support and further the fashion industry. She's definately one of those successful female figures I look up to.
So what do you think of Wintour? Oh, and if you've seen the movie, what did you think of it? Let me know -I can't wait to see it!
But nevertheless, a funny movie that is about the fabulous fashion magazine world and pretty clothes got me excited. Afterall, the only other magazine-related movie I could think of is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, (which is one of my favourite movies of all time.) Also there was so much hype around this movie. Usually, movies with this much hype turn out with poor reviews. But so far, all the reviews I have heard were positive.

i felt exactly the same way about the book. the movie was a lot fun and andy isn't as annoying as she is in the book.
I agree. The book was painful to finish. 1.) No one is that much of a bitch, 2.) Stop complaining and just quit. I liked the movie. It was cute, but I really enjoyed the clothes. :)
Loved the movie, reading the book now. The Emily character was by far my favorite, and everyone else I know hated her. Ugh.
I absolutely loved the movie. The music in the movie was great too. Can't wait to buy their soundtrack. Even my husband enjoyed alot. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway were great. I loved their clothes, especially the black leather Chanel boots that Anne wears on the movie.
Anna Wintour is SO chic i want to look like her when im older
LOVED the movie. the clothes were FABULOUS, and Anne Hathaway isn't that annoying (and her transformation into fashionista is akin to that in "The Princess Diaries"). Highly recommend the movie for MANY reason, but especially the fashion!
I agree that "The Devil Wears Prada" as a novel dropped off satisfaction-wise in the second half of the book -- it became rather dragged out and tiresome. However, I loved the movie to pieces! While this may have more to do with the stunning clothes the fashionable characters wear, the film definitely manages to be both entertaining and to have a nice, mild depth, which I didn't expect after reading the book. Plus, Meryl Streep was completely fabulous in the role of Miranda. Loved it !
and the movie "13 going on 30" with jennifer garner too.. but yea this is probably the only movie thats ALL about the mgagazine world. theres still 2 and a half month until the movie is shown in australia. as much as i hate reading books, i picked up a copy last week.. i should be able to finish by the time the movie has come out here in australia (btw my copy seems to have quite a few typos.. dont they proofread anymore? :S)
but by the look of the trailer (and other promotional videos i found on You Tube), im really looking forward to the movie! especially im considering breaking into the magazine/newspaper publishing in the near future. so cant wait! :)

I wish Wintour would put an actual MODEL on the cover of Vogue.
The movie was great! I saw it on the first day it came out...there were alot of gay men in the theater though! hahaha
and also you mean "how to lose a guy in 10 days" hehe
I love the movie. My bestfriend Maria is one of the extras in that film. The book is so hard to finish. The author is such a whining brat.
I really loved the movie a lot! But, like you, I couldn't stand the book (and that's an understatement). >< The movie really changed the story though and cleaned up the disorganization of the book and Andrea's character. She's definately not at all annoying in the movie. You should definately go see it! It really is quite charming! And watching all those pretty clothes doesn't hurt either. ^^
I have seen the movie. I thought I was really gonna like it since it was about fashion! It was ok, but all I wanted to do was be in her place! She complained and I can't believe she LEFT!!I SOOOO would've stayed!haha, but I guess it's her life....
Now i dont wanna get your expectations up - but the movie was AMAZING!!! I read the book last year and thought it was really good but the movie was even better! GO SEE IT! It's been out for like 2 weeks!
I cannot believe that the movie i've waited so long to watch is NOT SHOWING over here. Its supposed to be a worldwide release!
i just wrote about this yesterday. it was good, but not great. one of the best parts, though, was that little montage when Miranda (was that her name?) was dumping her purse and coat combinations on Andy's desk. I just wish it was in slow motion. ooooh, aaaaah
I liked the movie, but it's a little too much "Andy against the world." Her co-workers hate her, her friends tire of her...got annoying really fast. But it's still a really cute movie. I do wish they would have kept some more details in the book: a British Miranda and a blonde Andy.
I preferred the book over the movie, even though there were enough wince-worthy moments in each.
However, the movie is DEFINITELY fashion eye-candy. You'll love it.
and in response to Caitlin, I found Andy more annoying in the movie than in the book....
It was a bit different from the book. well a lot different. But, i loved seeing all the gorgeous clothes brought to life. I agree though, she's the one who wanted the job "a million girls would die for", sometimes you've got to pay your dues!
hey , i'm in australia so it hasnt screened there yet.. i'm really excited for it to screen , i've always been a major fan of fashion related books turned movies , but can i fetch up a suggestion? More KATE MOSS!!!! Kate Moss , is fashions best model please thankjs .. newaii I'm so happy you wrote about the devil wears parada movie
I haven't seen the movie yet (waiting to see it with my best friend...), but I really loved the book. I didn't think Andy was annoying at all...
I just finished the book, which I enjoyed, and I want to see the movie but i have no idea when it comes out in hong kong. Do you know when it does? They delayed all the movie releases cuz of the worldcup.
I can't stand Wintour. When will she ever put a real model on a cover?! And US Vogue is getting a little boring. I think that Miranda Presley makes a better Anna Wintour ;)
And about the movie, I'm so gladddd I got to see it! Fabulous clothing! And all the fashion talk, yum. Soooo many bright orange Hermes boxes... just waiting to be opened, and the Chanel accessories! I want everythingggg. It was funny because I just saw it last week (couture!) and they talked about fashion week in the movie haha.
Oh, and do they really get free clothes from fashion week?! I never knew that. Because Anna doesn't deserve them, teehee.
you're so lucky girl coz' here in france this film is not going to be released before septembre....gosh! anyway i would like to tell you that your blog is great! I lOve it!

When you get there leave a comment, it will be cool what you think!
I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" yesterday, and it's not that great. The clothing was nice though.

I hated them both. The book was redundant. You thought something would happen with Christian and it didnt. You thought she'd eventually tell Miranda off in a very dramatic way but it was so simple (and in some cases you could argue that a simple 'fuck you' was all it takes, but in this case I felt it was a lack of good writing on the author's part). There was no buildup to anything.
The movie was pretty much the same. I thought the movie would be better based on its reveiws, but I should have known better than to watch the movie of a book that sucked. Everything just happened. No detail. No story development.
I don't know, let us all know what you thought. I thought they both sucked. Which is sad because I expected it to be good. But I was basing my expectations on the title of the book (which I bet is 90% of the reason it was so successful, the title attracted girls like me).
movie was definately better than book but still not that good and andy was really annoying (i think it's anne hathaway's voice, it just has a really perfect-for-bitching quality to it) and i wanted to throw something at her by the time the movie was done).
As for the clothes, yes there was a lot but COME ON!!! anna wintour would NEVER carry a bag with such a big Prada logo on it. that's so gauche. and as a movie trying to make fun of fashion, it was an utter failure.

Well I liked the book it was a fun read. I was really looking forward to the movie but i was very disapointed. It did have its share of fashion but it wasnt the comedy i thought it was going to be. It was borderline boring. The parts when andy and nate were gonna get it on were so cheesy! I would much rather see the 80's movie WORKING GIRL than see The DEVIL WEARS PRADA again.
I just saw it for the second time tonight. Aaagh, even more time to tune out the dubious plot and concentrate on the clothes!
Anyway, here's my initial post about it: http://style-bard.blogspot.com/2006/07/devil-wears-prada.html
Maybe there'll be another post forthcoming from the second viewing. =)
We have to wait until OCTOBER to see it!!! And yeah, I think it'd make a great movie but the book was not so good. Not because of the whining, more the inevitably that in a decade or so, this book, if not already, will become extremely outdated with all the designer and celebrity references. I doubt our children are going to know who Reese Witherspoon is?
I don't mean to be a bitch here, but you spell it "definitely" not "definately." I've noticed this error way too many times for comfort on many different blogs :(
I'm reading the book right now and really don't care to finish it. I'm about 3/4 the way through it and, frankly, I get it. Her job is terrible.

I hated Anne Hathaway in the movie but I loved Meryl Streep. I loved her character so much I saw the movie twice. She is so good at being bad!
Just saw the movie and read the book a long time ago. I liked them both, but I was REALLY irked that they made so many changes to the storyline. The idea of the book is that Miranda is an insane, egoistic witch who has no regard for other human beings. The movie turned Miranda into some tough woman to be admired and sympathized with. While the movie was good, I think it's completely wrong to change the entire premise/message of the story.
THE MOVIE WAS BADASS!!!!
I fully match with whatever thing you have presented us.
