Trouser Jeans

Now that the private sale season is approaching, I'm thinking about jeans again. Since I've already got a million pairs of boot cut jeans, a pair of skinnys and a pair of straight legs, I thought maybe its time I got some of those wide legged jeans.
Turns out I'm not the only one thinking about them. In fact, My friend beat me to it and came home the other day with a really cute pair of Sevens trouser jeans (similar to these two Sevens shown above).
She had the same concern as me though, that they would look really silly and high school-ish. In fact, wide-legged denims brings to mind high school when everyone had wide-legged jeans/pants, trying to look cool. This image is especially fresh in my head, because thats what the teenage girl in The Land of Women (which I watched recently) wore all the time.
So we got to thinking how we would go about making it more sophisticated- and concluded that it was all about the footwear (and to a some extent, the color). Typically high school trouser denims are light colored and are worn with sneakers (as shown in the movie). So to upgrade the trouser denims a bit, might I suggest choosing a relatively dark pair and wearing them with a cute pair of pointy pumps/flats (left: Citizens, right: Paige).
Or a pair of platform sandals! Personally I think I prefer matching them with flats because I think it looks more casual (also it is essentially covered by the wide leg most of the time anyway like here left: See by Chloe) than pointy high heels, which somehow to me makes the whole look suddenly more formal (and I mostly relate this style to the more casual look). I also like these strappy round toed platforms (left: Diane von Furstenburg) cause they also give off that casual daytime look. And top wise, I think the rules for high-waisted wide leg trousers still applies here with denims, although the ones shown here are not quite as extreme as in the other post.

And do be careful when cropping these denims (if needed) and think about what shoes you'll wear them most often with. If they're too long, they'll drag and you'll trip every few steps. But if they're too short, than you run the risk of looking really dorky with the hem hanging in mid air and you won't even be able to past them off as gauchos!

I have been WAITING for wide-legged jeans to come back. As a girl who usually wears a size 14 jean, however, Paige/Citizens/Sevens don't really make jeans for my size. Where do I FINALLY get my pair of gorgeous wide leg trouser jeans?? Please guide me!

what did you think of .in the land of women. adam brody was cute as usual but the story felt pretty uninspired and cliched. for a drama, it didn't make me feel anything.

I don't think flats look good with trouser/wide leg jeans or pants in general. Flats don't let the pant leg lie as nicely--you may as well just wear sneakers, then.

I used to wear lots of wide leg jeans in the past, but now i'm into skinny leg jeans... I still have my wide ones in the closet :P but for now i'm gonna keep with the others.
I love the skinny leg trousers/jeans from Kate Moss's Topshop Collection.
Hey Sophia I agree when you say flats dont look good with trouser/wide leg jeans, but I think if we uwear them with skinny jeans, it looks great and gives us girls a very fashionable look.

I agree with Sophia too. Flats are great with skinny jeans but with the wide leg you need the platforms. Flats just look frumpy once the leg starts to get too wide. And I don't think you can achieve the look in the bottom left picture with flats -- that can only be done with platforms, unless you have really small feet and really wide jeans. But even so you might as well go with the platforms and keep the jeans long so it lengthens your legs!

Gosh I love those Citizens in the dark wash... I had just bookmarked those yesterday on shopbop. :) The color is perfect. I'm going to graduate in June (with my Masters), maybe I'll buy them as a reward for finishing!

Personally i don't like the skinny leg jeans and i dont like the wide ones either.
Neither work for my body type and they seem like somthing that will only last one or two season and when am paying that much for jeans i want to them to be fashionable for awhile.

I have a pair of trouser jeans, and they're not so bad with flats. It just depends on how you hem them. if you plan to wear the jeans with only flats then you get them hemmed so that they're the length to wear with flats so they won't bunch up and look horrible. If you wear a lot of heels then get them longer...and well...if you wear both then looks like you'll be spending twice the money. Also, My trouser jeans are light washed, but they're not gross light washed...they've got a little color to them. Not like that washed out stone color that was big in the 90s. It just depends on what kind of wash it is, and I think the dark wash doesn't make it look better it just makes it look more formal. Whatever the case, I love my trouser jeans, they update the jean and make it a little more sophisticated.

OHHH!
i bought Guess? trouser jeans with suspenders from Macys in NYC a while ago and im in high school in a small town, so NOBODY else is wearing anything remotely trouser-like. i have 4 inch platform wedge heels (look better in person) that are pretty cheap and i got lots of use out of them that look fabulous with these pants.
suspenders look great with trousers! :D

I am a young Mom. I love the idea and look of a trouser jean. My problem is, I can't seem to find any decent pair of trouser jeans that are of quality and under $100 or just over. Can anyone help?

For the record, most of the jeans you posted are wide-leg jeans, not trouser jeans. There is a difference.

If you're tall however, you're lucky in that most style of trousers will suit you - as long as you buy them long enough in the inseam. Tall and thin guys might want to consider bootcut trousers to help them balance out their look, while those you are a little portly will be better suited to flat panel trousers that have a full cut.

I agree that it is so hard to find shoes to go with these jeans. It's very frustrating, and now that I have been spoiled with skinny jeans I don't know what the heck to do with all of my trouser jeans. I used to wear them with flats, but I agree that it just looks too young and unkept for me now. Sigh... hello Goodwill.

The trousers are growing as the latest trouser fashion. Many of the fresh slim-leg trousers have upper volume or fullness, usually narrowing to a narrow cuff or leg. Some harem pants have great lower fullness as well. We see abundance of carrot top pants, that are named so not because of their colour but because they have outline similar to a narrowing carrot. The peg top volume is at the waistline, and some trousers can be fairly streamlined. Others dress into extra gathers at ankle or have a low calf narrowed finish.
