Shorts For Winter

The whole shorts + tights + ankle boots thing is a huge trend this season (a follow-up of the super-mini-shorts trend from the summer.) Some magazines even claim it's the new mini-skirt, which I'm not too sure about but I'm a fan of mini-skirts much more than of shorts. Anyways, so I've seen a lot of girls in London wear this trend -at school, in the supermarket, shopping... While I can totally understand it's a huge trend, I'm still amazed by how many ppl are wearing this combination. Why? Becuase dude, it's cold out there. Like seriously cold. And with this look, it's a very thin line between fashion victim and cute/ cool.
But if you really like this trend, then make sure you wear 'dressy' shorts. And you might want to stick to basic colours. Here are some that I like from Top Shop:

Checkered shorts -They're casual and preppy. Plus I've always thought checked things look better in winter than summer.

Silky-like shorts -Silky-looking things always make the item look classy, expensive and perfect for a night out.
Velvet shorts -These are also very wintery feeling and give off that going-out vibe. They're very girly so they're probably not suitable for everyone's taste but if you're a girly girl...

High-waisted shorts -While I could never pull off anything high-waisted, I've seen some Londoners try them on at Top Shop and they look really cool. Imagine these shorts with something as simple as a white T-shirt (tucked in) and platforms. Cool huh? (Although I think they'll look better without tights.)

What are your thoughts on this trend? Have you been wearing it?

I live in Canada, so those would guarantee frostbite.
However, even if I were to wear it when I'm not really outdoors much, they look to me a bit too fashion victim-y.

i think its one of those trends that petite girls with reaalllyy skinny legs can pull off (like olsens frame). it's the worst thing that can happen to soft knees and chubby calves. and also, when you wear these make sure your shoes are very simple, basic, solid colored, because otherwise they look not fashion victim-y, but clown-y. which is worse..

I don't know that I would wear this trend (it's just so cold...), but I'm loving those velvet shorts.

I haven't worn the trend.

I've only seen a couple of people doing that in everyday life. I love the trend but wouldn't really wear it. But it's much better than the denim 'Daisy Duke's with brown leggings.

I think it is a very cool look, especially on Gwen. She has such great style. I have been attempting to pull the look off, but have not yet found the right shorts. Out of the pictures shown, the velvet ones are definitely my favorite!

I live in Finland, where it's like 14 Fahrenheits at the moment and snow on the ground, I wear tights and LONG trousers and a LONG jacket and it's still COLD, but I've seen people wear those kind of outfits when they are going out on a saturday night. Better be sure to be a VIP to a club, because an hour in the queu makes you sick !! It's not that smart to follow all trends....

It's a cool look, but I think they look cooler with some funky tights/leggings like this: http://www.mytights.com/mytights/3344.html :)

these are the rare times when fall fashion makes me happy to be living in thailand..although the sad thing is the tights would probably make it too hot to weare here.. : (

I've worn this and I like! since it's all black I feel like my legs are extended. Granted it's a bit tricky to work with the weather. I got my black shorts from Zara back in August but I'm super glad I can carry them out to the winter so long as it's not too cold.

this isn't a huge deal but you should probably know for future reference - silk and satin are two different things. those shorts are satin-y. not silk-y.

this "trend" has come and gone last australian winter (june/july 07).. can't say i was a fan, i think only a very small population of thin gorgeous women can pull this look off.

I love this trend! I've been wearing the shorts/tights combo for the past few weeks. I like the combo with flats and knee high boots too. Way cute!

I've worn shorts and stockings quite frequently together because in Australia the winter isn't THAT cold and I think it looks nice. I'm glad not everyone is into it so everyone doesn't look like clones :)

I'm not really feeling this as a trend...maybe as a look that very few people can and should only pull off every once in a while this winter.
