Little Black Skirt
Last week while going through the leftover sale merchandises of a store, I found this black skirt and to my surprise, they actually had it in my size. I've been on the look for a black skirt for awhile and since I don't think the skin tight black skirts which are pretty popular these days are particularly flattering, this seemed to be close enough to what I was looking for.
The grey block made me hesistate at first, but my sister persuaded me to buy it (-she thought I was being too picky.) The skirt looks sort of flat and crinkly in the photo (my bad) but when you put it on, it actually sort of puffs up like a ball. Yes I realise this sort of bubble skirts aren't all too trendy anymore but it's cute and on sale.OK, so how to wear it? I wanted to make sure I didn't wear it with a white dress shirt or anything that would look like officewear. The key is to keep everything casual. But since I've never actually owned black skrits (or anything mid-wa before, I looked for inspiration online.
I love this Luella top! (Please imagine the black shorts on the model as a skirt.) It's casual and cute; it's trendy without being messy.
Plaid/ checked shirts are oh-so-trendy(-and-hipsterish) this summer. You can hardly go into a highstreet store without spotting one of these shirts and they seem to be a popular complement of the black skirt these days (-see images above, from H&M and Urban Ooutfitters.) While plaid tops always look cool in fashion candid and paparazzi pictures, they just don't seem to look great in real life. I don't know if I've just seen the cheap-looking ones or what, but I really can't imagine myself actually looking cool in one of these plaid shirts.
I adore this combination of a tank top with the volume skirt. It's simple and allows one to look effortlessly trendy. Plus, like in the shopbop image, it will leave you free to accessorise. A printed t-shirt looks like a pretty good match too! (See image on the right.)I can't wait to try out the skirt! Have you guys been wearing a little black skirt this summer too?

It would look so hot. Very 'Precious Princess Rockstar'.
Accessory wise, keep it simple. A delicate gold necklace...If you want to dress it up, try layered goldish pearls. I think a headband with a simple bow would look awesome as a final touch.

it's a black skirt, you can wear just about anything with it! a colorful tee, a printed floral blouse, a plain tank top, a cardigan... the possibilities are really endless.
i've had black skirts in rotation in my wardrobe for 6+ years now, they are really handy to have.
I got one which sticks out massively, thought it would be easy to wear as it's black. I was quite wrong!! But I've enjoyed pairing it with jewel colours and fake fur collars and pearls and polo necks and rock girl t-shirts and different colour tights. They are fun to play with! Or even layer over or under other skirts/dresses.
I just wore my new H & M checkered top which i got from Hong Kong when i was there in May to work that day. Wore it with a black pencil skirt which i pulled higher up my waist to make it look like a high waisted skirt.
I think i kinda rocked it... one of my Clients commented that i actually looked quite 'dressed up' and good! :)

I love wearing black skirts. It looks like you're looking to tuck the shirts in, which is something I never mastered (at least not tucking and having it look good) I dont know what that skirt would look like on, but if you dont like the gray block then try to find a shirt that would look goo un-tucked.

Didn't Mary Kate start that plaid trend? I mean she's being wearing it for like a long time now. I know she didn't invent plaid, but she sort of brought it back.
I have so many black pencil skirts I don't know what to do with them. I mean they are the absolute best. They make you look so good but you can wear almost anything with them.
Yours is adorable, too. Seems like you could get a lot of different looks out of it. The first that comes to mind is like a printed knee high sock with the some skater shoes, a casual t that maybe has some writing on it or a neat design and then some off jewelry like 6 bangles. Idk. Something sorta punky.

Plaid is tricky but if you find a tailored piece and wear it with the right attitude you can't go wrong.
