Cowgirl Boots Are So Out

Last week I was on the phone with my uncle, who lives in San Francisco. He's one of those relatives who has no idea what's in fashion and which celeb is who. So I was quite amazed when the topic of fashion came up (I was enquiring about recent purchases of my aunts'), my uncle said aren't those cowboy-type of boots really trendy now? Apparently everyone is wearing them in CA. Well, at least in San Francisco anyways.

And that was totally like the sign I needed to confirm that cowboy boots are out. I mean, even my uncle noticed them, what more evidence does one need? Personally, I'm SO glad this weird trend of cowboy boots are out. While I admit some celebs looks fantastic in them and can totally pull it off with the effortless boho vibe (see Mary Kate Olsen), there are some celebs who don't get that cowboy boots are NOT meant to be paired up with the whole sexy image *coughjessicasimpsoncough*.

Anyways, to prevent anyone accidently thinking cowgirl boots are still in and buying them, here are some examples of what NOT to buy:

Nine West 'Plank' Boot

Jessica Simpson Footwear 'Jessica' Boot

Frye 'Faith' Western Boot

Kenneth Cole Reaction 'Urban Cowgirl' Boot

Obviously if you have an outfit that would look great with cowgirl boots then wear them. Afterall, style isn't always only about what's trendy. But people, stop walking around in them thinking they're fashionable -they're not!

I've been saying the cowboy thing for months. I forbid any of my friends to buy them just because they saw lindsay lohan or some emancipated teeny bopper wearing them. Although, Frye is a classic boot company. all this exposure has pretty much killed Frye.nevertheless, their Harness boots are just darling!

i agree the cowboy boots then again i never like them in the first place but not all celebs look fab in the trust me some look like a fashion disaster rather than a fashion idol.its true that some people like them but certainly not me.i'm pretty sure all people agree.

I haven't seen anyone wearing any boots that hideous in SF.

Also, National Enquirer is a tabloid. But when you ask about something, you inquire.

Well, If a person doesn't have the confidence to pull off cowboy boots, then of course they'll look bad. I don't care for the look of cowboy boots with skirts or dresses, but Love them with jeans. I also don't like it when people(such as Jessica Simpson)look like they're trying to hard wearing them. Where I'm from, Georgia(which is in the South in the USA), cowboy boots will, and pretty much always have been wonderful and stylish(once again, on the right people). So, unless you live everywhere in the world, you really can't say that cowboy boots are out of style.

Cowboy boots, to my knowledge, are not and never were boots made for fashion any more than, originally, rain boots were maid to be worn as something on the feet to slosh about in the rain.

Keep in mind who wears them. Cowboy boots are working boots. They are shoes with a significant purpose; far more than any peon with six inch stilletto heels can ever say about their pathetic slut-stompers. Beyond that. Leave us remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that perception is reality. You folk out here saying that cowboy boots are hideous and ugly; I can probably say the same about your shoes.

And personally, anyone who wears those ridiculous newfangled crap-tastic pumps with the magnificently hideous overelongated toe... is a fashionless dolt who needs to be dragged out into the street and shot along with anyone who would ever wear a micro mini in public and have the flagrant audacity to think they look 'cute' in it.

But as I said; perception is reality. What I think is cute isn't what you think is cute. No one is exclusively 'right,'but as to cowboy boots? At least there's a bloody point to owning a pair. And I'll agree with the supporters on this thread; they look excellent under a good pair of jeans.

As to not wearing them for the fall/winter season: not if you're going to be wearing those UGG boots everyone talks about. Those miserable, hideous, absolutely no-design-whatsoever tumors on the face of footwear as it's known... I digress. But if you aren't going to wear UGG boots, let me suggest a pair of real (not those hideously over-designed things you see on the 'new bohimian' lines nowadays) cowboy boots. Frye are exquisitely made and I suggest their site. Some of their non-cowboy fashions are out of this world. The shoes are practical as well as just plain enough to never truly go 'out of fashion.' That is the beauty of the cowboy boot.

It doesn't go out of style because it was never "in style" in the first place. It is a practical shoe that looks good if you compliment it. . . the same way that plain black skirt in your closet is good year round if you accessorize properly.

Do stop whining about what other people say and wear whatever you feel confident in. To follow so-called 'fashion trends' is to be a stupid curr.

I love cowboy boots when I'm in the mood espesially with jeans. I don't think they will ever go out of style regardless of brainwashed mindless comments like Harrods Girl's. You wouldn't know fashion if came up and bit you in the nipple. You have to be told what is in and what is out. Fashion to you is what ever you see on TV or in a magazine on any given day you idiot! Boot and jeans are classic fashion if worn correctly. I'm tall and beautiful and in jeans and boots I'm a sight for anyones eye's. You, Harrods, are probably short and stubby and look like crap in anything you wear. That's why you're so hooked on what you think is in or out. You think wearing what is supposedly in saves you from looking like hell Well, it doesn't. Get over yourself, if people want to wear boots, let them be. Save your self important comments to yourself. Frumpy bitch!

I'm sorry but I am a country girl who just happens to know a lot about fashion and I was highly Ticked to hear that yall dont think cowgirl boots are in. Where I come from (Alabama) they are always in. If you arent one of those cowgirls who think that this sight is rediculous for posting all this bull crap about boots then you should come to alabama and see how cute real southern girls look and see some real fashion instead of all yall yankees tryin' to look like yall are country. Yall come...Nevermind, i dont want people like yall at my house.

Meh. I don't think it matters if it's "in" or "out" but I agree that it is a classic and can go a long way depending on how you accessorise it. Personally I I had always wanted a pair and was really happy when they were more easily accessible.

Are you kidding me? I have three pairs of cowboy boots always in my closet (tony lamas) along with alot of designer boots like marc jacobs and vivinne westwood. No Im not spoiled or rich but my sister is a model and I get these for free. Since I was 10 I've been wearing cowboy boots, fuck the fashion world. All you pointy toe wearing, big ass necklace, and 80's tights little girls need to check yourself. I have my own style, living most of my adult life in NYC but raised in the south. and you know what?" Nothing makes me feel sexier or more comfortable than my cowboy boots and my black converse! so for all you mindless twits that have to wear whatever is in style no matter how hideous it is, you really need to grow up, stop being followers and become a leader. That is what's wrong with women today, instead of thinking for yourselves you need a fashion expert, designer or celebrity to tell you what to wear.

I so totally agree with you sparrow. Here is the deal. I am from Cali, a small town at that. and I love cowboy boots. I have probably about ten pairs ranging in style color designer etc. The reason I own so many? Because every 5 years my town has an annual 'cowboy' (so to speak) event that just happened in Oct. It didn't stop there, we just had a Rodeo on top of that where everyone got 'cowboy' ed out. Its fun! This is where we came from! This is our roots! And especially since a lot of you are speaking that you are from the south. and if you like and wear cowboy hats then you are a hypocrite. And on top of that, you who don't like jessica simpson's boots, you all are HECKA JEALOUS then. Cause regardless, she is hotter that shit! And for all of you that don't like them, that's fine! But quit looking at all those dumb celebs for style and fashion and ideas. Because everyone should go and have their own fashion sense. NO ONE should just wear it because celebs are. Do it because it makes you feel good about yourself! !! ! !! I SUPPORT COWBOY BOOTS IN CALIFORNIA!

Take it from a cowgirl. Those boots on your site are NOT cowboy boots. They're silly imitation cowboy boots.

Good cowboy boots are usually custom made, and cost a small fortune. There are "buckaroo boots" which have 18" top, and underslung heels, and they look FANTASTIC with tucked-in tights.
There are "packer boots" which resemble your great-grandma's lace ups. There are "roper boots" with short tops for those heavy legged gals that can't get away with anything else.

FYI, all us sexy and savvy cowgirls think you fashionistas are a hoot!

in my opinion - and i'm not some girl from the south who is brainwashed to believe that all boots are something to be worshipped, as it seems - cowgirl boots aren't out at all. if you can pull it off (say with a cute skirt just below the knee, or a dress and a cardigan), then they're one of the cutest things you can wear on your feet. granted, they're not amazing with jeans all the time, and that's when people might start to question your fashion knowledge completely - but there are plenty of ways to wear them in a way that is quite flattering.

you guys are just being hypocritical - and i mean both sorts of people that are talking right now. the city girl fashion freaks, and the hodunk country girls. gosh, hah.

cowgirl boots aren't a 'trend' in canada. Infact they're no different from an emo kid wearing a spike necklace. Its for a sense of their own style because of the way they grew up or the music they listen to, obviously being country. They make a hell of a statement of what type of girl you are, what you're into, where you grew up or who you hang out with.

This is all I am going to say: Don't be a poser. If you don't ride, you don't like Western Culture, you don't like Country Music, and you don't like Cowboys... just don't. That'd be akin to me wearing some surfing brands and looks when I've never been interested in surfing. It's silly! If you love the culture, the music, and the people, then wear them! I get so tired of seeing girls who wouldn't ever touch a horse and hate country styles wearing cowboy boots to be trendy. Gross.

I agree with Randi. I may be a Californian girl and not from the south but I love country music and there is nothing sexier than a cowboy or country boy. And of course I love goin' to the PBR. So if you like the whole country culture then there is nothin' wrong with wearing cowboy boots!! Wear what defines you, not what defines someone who is popular.

What about Fluevogs?

My boyfriend was thrilled with the round toe, urban style boots I bought recently, and even went into my closet to pick out a skirt to wear with them. He's never done that before with other shoes. Of course, we all say "oh, be comfortable, be who you are," at the same time we're dropping fashion names and comparing body types. Sigh. We're all hypocrites. I guess it is more important to follow Mary Kate "eat a f***ing sandwich" and Paris "air-brushed retard with a toy dog" fashion trends.

Every time I wear my boots everyone asks me where I got them from? what does that tell you.. and also if cowboy boots arent in? then why are major desinger shoe companies makeing sylish cowboy boots? hmm? what does that tell you? that they think its in its hot.. and people are going to buy them. Just because you dont like the look doesn't mean its not something thats it.

Cowgirl and cowbot boots arent an "in"thing, it's a country thing till ya'll stuck up city punks stoll what we country people created. And boots arent just worn for working. They're worn for dancing, work, looking nice, and everything else. I've been to lots of the southern and northern states and every where I go I see people in boots, so if you want to talk about things being "out" try your attitude. I proudly wear my boots and stand up for my heritage.

I say let people wear what ever they want even if it's overalls and sandals. If you dont like it then keep it to yourself!!!!

Here's the thing, I'm also from GA, and just for the record, i have had a pair of justin boots for about 3 years now, just bought a new pair about 2 weeks ago, and almost bought another pair today. It obviously takes a daring person to wear the boots because it goes against what's supposedly "in." All anybody really needs anyway is a pair of brown shoes and black shoes. Boots may not be in style in the bigger cities, maybe because they were made, and still are, for hard work and labor OUTDOORS. they are extremely durable and functional, and they look great with jeans and perhaps the right kind of skirt, and maybe shorts. it just depends, do you want to fit in with the crowd, or be an individual and have your own way to dress. Wear what fits you, what tells people about you - wear what you love, even if that's keeping up with the trends (as fast as they change), or wearing something that's been the same since it first came out (boots). I personally choose to wear what works, what lasts, and what i love. I'm not bashing anybody for their opinions, but others should be a little more open minded. Nobody's the same, we all have our likes and dislikes, and everybody's entitled to their own opinion. It's all in how you utilize these different styles - you don't want to mix something with the wrong piece, or you end up screwing up the whole look. I keep up with the trends for the most part, but sometimes i want to crawl back into my comfort zone. Cowboy boots are me.

Cowgirl boots are hot, i have 3 pairs of it - Miss capezio butterfly/frye and they looked great on jeans or skirt. Bit awkward wearing them in city but who cares, i wore my capezio the other day anyway and my friends loved it and are getting one too. My boyfriend thinks it's out this world (am from Australia) but am still loving it. I guess it just depends on what kind of skirt or jeans you mix it with. not everyone have the same style but this one works for me just fine.

Where i am from we shop for versatility. In Cowboys boots you can do anything. Go to work, school, party, hanging out. getting dirty, shopping, riding and just anything else you can think of. I have worn boots my whole like and I couldn't ever think for one second to not have a pair in my closet. On top of it all If you have a good pair of good brown boots, you can get burnt motoroil on them and then wipe it off. Hello there,
I don't agree with you. I think a good pair of cowgirl boots will never go out of style. (I am happening to be wearing a pair right now as I type this.) Those boots that you were showing in the photos are not real cowgirl boots. Go check out brand like Lucchese or Tony Lama. Plus they are the most comfortable shoes once you break them in. I can't live with out mine; as a matter of fact, I want to wear it all the time if I could because it goes with pretty much anything; but I mostly wear mine with jeans.

PS: Just so you know, you should develop your own style instead of following what's in or what's out. If you really must follow, check out Nina Garcia's new book "The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own", and she "happened" to list a good pair of cowgirl boots as one of the 100 essential pieces that every girl should have in their closet.

hmm. i can see the reason in both sides of the issue, but my opinion is that, yes, you should wear what defines you, through your looks and culture, it doesn't matter if you live in alaska, you can wear cowboy boots (i recommend the summer only though) as long as you can pull it off, and there are stupid trends out there like the UGG boots, who in bloody texas would want to wear them? it is freaking 75 degrees here in january! i am from texas, live in michigan most of my life, but i still wear cowgirl stuff, hats, boots, jeans, belts w/ buckles, name it and i probably wear it. i have deep roots in the country life-style

so for you mindless zombie girls *coughhack* the ones who wrote this blog and agreed with it, stop trying to be paris hilton and selena gomez and wear what the h you want to. so leave us cowgirls alone before we come rope you and feed you to our horses and steer.

So suck it up & cowboy up, city gals. And until you KNOW and have the stripes to prove it, keep yer prissy fashion to yourselves!

Okay those of you who "think" cowboy boots are out of style are just jelous of us cowgirls who can rock a pair of boots, with either a pair of tight jeans or a skirt. One thing that needs to be established right now is that cowboy boots are one stlye that will not be going away anytime soon. As long as there are cowgirls like me, and rodeos, dont expect the look to go out. Until then, prissy girls--it's best that you keep your little clean high heels out of the way and in your little cities.

Cowboy boots are life. For those of you who don't wear them then you don't. If you were to do half the things us cowgirls and cowboys do then you would realize why we use them. Raising cows, and pigs isn't easy and getting dirt & poop all over your feet doesn't feel or smell good. I'm in FFA and raise animals and love it. And yeah I live in the city wish I didn't but I do. Cowboys were established way before these cities were even here. For people like Jessica Simpson I agree with that, country music isn't about look like a hoe. She already had her fame in pop or whatever and isnt a great country singer she a one hit bobble head

For the record I went to Washington DC for the weekend and wore my cowboy boots that I've had for about a year now, very broken in and very comfortable.
I got complimented on them by city folks, can you believe that? This guy asked me if I rode any horses, which I don't. I just wear the boots because I like them and they are the single most comfortable shoes I own. Everyone agreed that a good broken in pair look better than "these girls you see walking around with some cheap imitation they bought from Macy's" - also, it's what you wear them with that makes a statement.
Wear anything with the wrong outfit and of course people are going to think it's horrid. Cowboy boots stand out enough, so they're not something you wear with a stand out outfit.
Boots have a purpose. They're meant to protect the lower legs from harsh work environments, and things like snakes. I drive a streetbike and I feel safe that the leather on my boots is going to protect my legs from getting burned from the exhaust pipe or if I were to drop my bike it would keep me from scarring my legs up. THAT'S not fashionable. Plus, I'm the only girl who drives a hot bike with cowboy boots, kinda like the Bon Jovi song, instead, I'm a cowgirl, on a steel horse I ride.

I think that cowboy boots will always be in style, for specific people that is. Like, y'all spoiled little rich girls thinking that they are out of style in the city. The only reason that yall think they are out-of-style is because yall can't pull the look off, correctly at least. Down south where I live, cowboy boots are'nt really supposed or thought of as to be a "fashion statement". They are for working, dancing, and just casual wear. So I will always stay true to my southern roots and style. American by birth, southern by the grace of God.

I think if you have the face and body that can adapt to different fashions well, you can pull off anything. For example: If Megan Fox were to start sporting the cowgirl boots again, there would be a cowgirl boot craze. I think they can be cute, paired with the right ensemble. I'm going linedancing this weekend and plan on wearing mine with a skirt or jeans. Also, a lot of guys are wearing cowboy boots. Not just cowboys, but more and more of the rocker/rockabilly type of dude. I think it looks cool, and they are fun to look at :) Don't be scared to try new things. Even if that means bringing back something old.

Ok Ok...simmer down now... Nobody is trying to take away from you manure shovelin vixens. Fashion for us "prissy" girls is life... Cowgirl boots are a fashion statement. I would never be caught dead in some of your jeans or button-down shirts unless I was dressing up for Halloween, so don't worry - that look is still YOURS!! I personally like to wear boots with a heel to contrast something really feminine or better yet - to create something really feminine and innocent. Please don't get it twisted, mine have clean soles and I would never dream of trying to come off as a real cow-girl! I will stick w/ my city life. Bye girlz. ;)

I am a "real cowgirl". i live on a ranch with cattle and love wearing boots with or with out heels. And for your information in the "country life" they're both "in style". If you go to a Taylor Swift concert or Tim Mcgraw or Miranda Lambert concert EVERYBODY wears somekind of boot. I show cattle at fairs and EEVERYBODY weaarsthem to.... and not just because Jessica Simpson or anybody for that matter was seen in them. Its stupid to wear something because "its in" or because thats what the crowds doing. You need to wear what you want, your style is something that best reflects you and who you are. If your wearing what some one else wears because it "cool" its not its stupid and its not you. If your doing that then you probably actually truly dont like it. However if you do like whatever styles in(and i mean truly like it) then wear it but put your own personal stamp on it make it your own. (Ps nobody likes a phonie or a fake.) Dont be afraid to wear what you want!!!:):}

I most definately disagree. Cowboy is very much so in. And even if it isn't who cares? I really do like cowboy boots but if the only reason you are wearing them is for style then you shouldn't even go there. That whole look is just a bunch of bologna. I say wear it when necessary not when everyone else is. And i leave it at that.

That is ridiculous!!! Cowgirl boots are supposed to be for riding and for girls that aren't in the fashion mode. and anyways who would want to where something jessica simpson would wear??

Me, being from Kentucky I think cowgirl boots are this thing ya'll call 'in'. So let us keep our style and you can keep yours and keep your opinion to yourself.

WHat I'm saying "gals" is that if I feel like wearing them tomorrow, I will and it is because I feel like wearing them. Not necessarily because it is what is "in" nor because I work on a farm. I agree, who cares what anyone thinks, that is the point. Other people were insinuating that "city girls" just wear them because they are in. I guarantee that everybody has worn a pair of tennis shoes before...not because they are triathletes or runners per say, but probably because they were comfortable or went with a specific outfit...

you're a fucking idiot and know nothing. country is so 'in' right now, first of all. flannel and denim mini dresses are everywhere. plus, many designers are coming out with their own cowboy boots. not that that really means anything, because the best dressed people have the balls to do whatever the fuck they want. cowboy boots are classics. you obviously don't know what you're talking about you twat.

"Country" is a lifestyle, a way of living! You either live it or you don't. If you don't live it you don't understand the concept of the cowboy/cowgirl boot! And the girl who wrote this column obviously doesn't understand not to call a boot a women wears a Cowgirl Boot instead of a cowboy boot! TO ALL THE GIRLS OUT THE KEEPIN IT COUNTRY, THANK YOU for not letting this way of living die out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
