Stripes I: Black and White

The verdict is out everyone. According to the high street stores, the trend that is going to be carried from the catwalks and onto sidewalks next season is stripes-more specifically in this post, black and white ones!

How else did this simple black and white striped tunic from Lux end up on the cover of both the website and catalog of Urban Outfitters?

And it seems that our friends at Top Shop agree with this trend as well. Coming up with almost a whole collection of different variations of black and white tunics. Gee I wonder where they got their inspiration from. . . .

This design from Dior's AW05-06 collection must've haunted them for ages. They were probably kicking themselves for not picking it hot off the runway earlier when they saw these pictures plastered all over the place. Well. . . beter late then never!

I loved the look when I saw it on Dior but not sure I'll be taking it up myself.
In some high street stores it can look really cheap and I have a feeling this trend is going to be REALLY overdone, I don't want to be walking down the street in a balck and white stripey top and see ten people the same, I mean it's not like there's much variation unless you look really closely and I bet by next season everyone will be sick to death of seeing balck and white stripes everywhere.
Long black and white stripey t-shirts look great but how can different shops interpret this faashion differently? There's going to be, and already is, a million identical tops in Top Shop, New Look, H&M, etc etc.

I remember being 13 and wearing a similar shirt, only it was navy and white. It was the first time boys really noticed me, other than at school, and I just loved that shirt to pieces... til' I had to give it back because I had borrowed it!

It's a cute look, but I'd want a nice piece with some detail or great quality to it - not any cheap cotton thing - in order to stand out in it and make it really work.

Very true.

but it's hard to wear stripes. especially black and white stripes because they can make you look too fat, too wide or too bulky. My favorite alternative are Navy and White stripes.

ha i got that urban top too! and in red

I just wore a black and white striped tank with a black tailored suiting jacket, straight leg jeans and black low heel pumps yesterday. I was very excited about it. Though the tank itself was cheap cotton from Forever 21, pairing it with much nicer pieces made it work.

I also like the idea of navy and white strips too, especially with white pencil skirts and brown wedges.

Well of course you wore a black and whit shirt when you were fifteen... everyone has owned one at some point in their lives...

Anyways, glad some brands are finally picking up on the black and white thing. I wonder how long it'll take for them to start adopting the rad boots Dior had at that show.

Cute albeit not a new look. BCBG has had these thick bold stripes since Fall/Winter 05... I picked up a long sleeve scoop neck and a capsleeve t in black and white, both in cashmere. Just thinking of retiring it because that look is getting old in Los Angeles. You might not want to base your trends on Urban Outfitters, a mass market reproducer like Forever 21 & H&M. They are a little late in the trend game.

OMG, I've been looking for a black and white striped shirt just like the Urban Outfitters one- and it's so cheap! Thanks for the recommendation!
