SS07 Beauty Trend: The White Eyeliner

First off, thanks for suggesting mascaras to me last week. For those who are interested, the Lancome counter that I went to told me that the much-loved Definicils has stopped being produced, so instead I bought its new Cils Design Pro. (It's a two-sided mascara.) It was only a bit more expensive than L'Extreme so I figured I'll try it.

Anyways onto today's topic -the white eyeliner. Now I am no expert about makeup so I was always thought white eyeliners weren't that versatile. I thought they were only useful in useful in doing the 60's mod look, as done in the Dior FW05 show. But apparently, there is another way to use it.
Some people (me included) feel that wearing black eyeliner all around the eyes is feels a bit heavy and 'madeup', especially for a daytime look. Recently, I read in a magazine that solved this problem. A great way to wear eyeliner but still achieve a (relatively) natural look is to wear black eyeliner along the top line, and white eye along the bottom line. I think it brightens up your eye area, (plus the magazine claims it widens your eyes.)
Check out how it was done in the Anna Sui SS07 show -Du Juan (above) looks really pretty with this makeup.
So I really wanted to try this look and made the effort to visit 3 Shu Umerura shops just to get this two-ended eyeliner, (one end is white, the other end is pearl,) but it's completely sold out! I'm definitely going to try again when I get back to London and if it's really sold out, I suppose I can try Nars.

So ya, just a little makeup idea for you all to try out!

i constantly use white eyeliner on my bottom lid since i have small eyes, the one i dislike though is that as it smears it collects kinda gross at the out corner of my eye. It hadn't occured to me to use the color pearl, i'll keep that in mind next time i go shopping for makeup.

i love the white eyeliner look, although i got carried away over the weekend and used it like a normal eyeliner. it was kind of shocking, but it grew on me.

If you're looking for a white liner, there are a ton of brands besides shu that come in white :)

I use it pretty regularly, but i prefer Pearl (as recommended by the make up artist). White can look strange in real life, whereas pearl is more sutbtle but still has the same eye opening effect.

Does the white eyeliner work on darker skin tones, though? Or is the contrast just too dramatic to be a subtle daytime look?

Quick tip girls, L'Oreal is owned by Lancome and the mascara produced under the L'Oreal name is a very similair formula. Brush might be a cheaper version....
Also please use white eyeliner carefully and wisely. It can also make you look like a 1960's reject.

i think if u're tanner or have more yellow tones in your skin (aka most asians), you should skip the white bc it's too noticable. a fleshtoned pencil would work much better. champagne would be an added bonus bc the shimmer really gives a nice glowy look.

for darker skin tones (olive and darker) gold and champagne work really well because it is still the lightest tone in your skin but it's not as obvious. i love it because i get the same effect with out looking like i lost my mind, lol.

I feel so fashionable now. Yesterday night, after not using ot for years, I did have the URGE to use white eyeliner and hey, now I read this! I must be some kind of fashion guru without knowing it because the same thing happened to me with the vests. I'm gonna call up Vouge for a job haha.

Awesome! I'm so excited to try this out. I just recently started wearing black liquid eyeliner (a fine line) along my top lids. I used to think it was such a bother, but now I'm addicted. I can't wait to explore with this!

I learned the dark on top/light on the bottom eyeliner trick from a makeup artist who called it "opera eyes." Opera performers need a wide face with expressive features such as mouth and eyes, and this trick really helps the eyes pop onstage. Glad you posted it because it is a nice daytime look.

I went to a Shu Uemura store today and tried the eyeliner but for some reason it was clumpy and did not go on smoothly, maybe I'm not skilled enough for it!

Wait! So what's a good white eyeliner brand? Shu, or not shu? This is an awesome tip girls and I'm totally dying to try it out... any tips on what brand to get would be greatly appreciated!

I think white eyeliner is too obvious, so i use a flesh-colored eyeliner slightly lighter than my skin tone. It lights up my eyes instantly and the best part is you can't even tell it's there. I'm currently using a Bourjois eyeliner(one side is fleshcolored, the other side is brown, it's also available in white/black), and I'm very happy with it, it doesn't get smeared on my lower lashes like many other liners do. Not to mention it's really cheap..

Hi again, I got the shu umura eyeliner over the weekend, and i'm not that stoked about it. there was one i bought at the drugstore that was, $6 that works better. i also was inspired to buy nice mascara, but i think i just have white trash make-up taste, because that didn't work either.

i use white eyeliner on the inside of my bottom lids to open my small asian eyes. it does brighten, open your eyes more. i use a pearly kind that they sell in the makeup counter in the asian grocery store. they charged me $20 (which is more than it actually costs in korea) but it lasts me for years. i bought a white one from MAC ($15) and the white was too harsh. the pearly color is key, i think. im super pale though, so the white/pearl isn't obvious.

Okay, so can anyone specifically tell us which drugstore brand was good?

hey, thx for the advice! i love white eyeliner, and i have found it looks especially good when it is over the lash line on the bottom of your eye. Just be careful, and don't poke ur eye!

this is a really late response but i just came upon this post today. i bought sephora's waterproof flashy liner in "flashy silver" today. i actually didn't look at the name of the color & bought it thinking it was a nice white/pearl color when i tried it on the back of my hand. i tried using it on my eyes and i really like it! you don't have to use much and it gives a nice effect and it's just $8.

I think I have to try this one too because I usually used the white at the top line and blue at the bottom.

Just yesterday I got a white eyeliner by Prestige. for around $6 dollars it works surprisingly well. Soft, smooth, and blends well if you want it to. Personally, I think its almost similar to the shu uemura ones. just a thought.

I love the make up!!! i think the way how you make up your eyes always going to determine the success in a relation ship or just in a date. The eyes curlers, the blush, the eyeliner will do you feel more comfortable and sexy and because this stimulus your sexual performance will be outstanding. How ever i recommend you to buy viagra if you boy is a little discouraged.
