The Black Headband

Recently, for lack of anything better to watch since everything worth watching stopped, I started watching Season 1 of The Hills. And I was struck by the magic of the black headband.
The black headband works for wonders for Lauren Conrad. Not only does it keep the hair out of her face, but it also makes her looks GREAT from a dinner date to a casual day at school.
After then of course, I started seeing black headbands everywhere. On the streets, the front row of the 3.1 Phillip Lim show on Michelle Williams(left) to Rinko Kikuchi(right) in a dress. And everyone looks soo pretty in them! It contrasts perfectly with their blonde hair. So what do we brunettes do for the same effect besides dying our hair blonde? We take a page from Drew Barrymore's outfit at the London premier of Music and Lyrics, and go for the gold/silver/metallic headbands of course!

Here is a selection from Intuition. For a more casual toned down classic headband to match everything, I'd go for the last one with the black print and gold background. You don't want to look too flashy now, since the whole point of the black headband is to provide a great contrast while still looking casual and down to earth. I can't find one online just yet, but I think a bronze-ish colored headband would look awesome too!

my friend and i were shopping the other day & picked up some fun headbands (cherry red, brown alligator skinand black & white striped), totally citing lauren from the hills as our inspiration!

Even though I am completely brunette (black hair, actually) I don't really like metallic headbands, so I'm going out to buy a white one for contrast/cuteness.

I totally agree with you, headband is a trend right now. On a day when hair is messy, just tie hair into a bun and put on a headband will give us a fresh/nice look.

Hey, visit my new site! :-)

Headbands have been around for quite a while actually. But those at Intuition are gorgeous.

i love your site!

but yea i've seen headbands around for quite some time. the whites are less flashy and maintain the cuteness that the black does for blondes

I think a tortoise toned one (like this one from jcrew) would look good with blond or brunette hair.

for brunettes only, i really like this "Chain Link Ribbon Headband" in white on Nordstrom.com

Happy hunting!

anonymous -- those are actually TURBANS! they are wearing the prada ones (they're in the ad campaigns for prada, buy a vogue and you'll see). turbans are supposed to be a huge high fashion trend this spring, but i'll just stick with headbands.

and yea, headbands have been a trend since last spring. but i hope it stays!

I absolutely love headbands. I wear the black ones a lot to school and then have various printed ones for out and about. They're a great way to put your hair back and look pretty.

i currently have very dark hair, and black headbands are totally invisible. I bought the headband shown on the URL, on the picture it's pink but mine is cream, the chain patter looks amazing and my hair shows from the holes on it and i recommend it to all brunettes out there:

I love it when someone wears super good looking fashion jewelry with a simple headband. I don't like the extravagant headbands with flowers and fluff. It's the jewelry that can be extravagant.

No, but I've got no stomach for hurting people." His arms went limp, releasing us, and he took a step back. "You'd better do your duty and report me. But take this in case that reward money's long in coming." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pale yellow rock studded with honey-colored crystals. "I saw it out in the dry creek bed. Might be worth a telephone call."

He dropped it into my hand and gave a wink. Then he turned and walked out into the sunlight. Frank and I gawked, like a duet of wide-mouthed frogs.
