Bebe SS07

I must say, I've been impressed with Bebe's marketing techniques lately. They've managed to present themselves as ladylike, sophisticated, stylish and chic.
Through Mischa, they also appeal to the young and trendy. These ad campaigns really makes me want to go out and buy this trench coat (unfortunately, the site says it is not available for sale. Why do they even bother to shoot this if its not even available sale??). . .

. . . and this dress. . . . . . and basically everything in the catalog as well. Even though the fashion in the catalog seems to be targeted at a more sophisticated audience, it just looks soooo cool with this jet as a backdrop!
Their website is quite well designed, comprehensive and easy to navigate too. And some of the clothes shown actually look nice.

The only problem with all this is their actual store and products. Have you BEEN to a BEBE store? Because the ambiance it emanates feels nothing like this. I've tried. I've been inside many times trying to look for remnants of this style, I even asked if they had this dress that Mischa was wearing in the ad (to which the sales people told me they have never seen in the store before)- nothing.
In reality, the actual store feels cheap, and most of the clothes look cheap, slutty and way overpriced, like these two tops shown above.

Even Eva Longoria- who always looks so chic and elegant- looks cheap wearing this Bebe top on the cover of this month's Cosmopolitan.

So kudos to Bebe's marketing and web design team, and to those in the Bebe design and store concept team- a little revamping is in order. The products have to FIT the image!

Hey Ladies!

I have always adored the Bebe adds in Vogue, but the Bebe store is always horribley tacky. There are 3 Bebe stores in 3 of my local malls and all of the Bebe stores sell extremely trashy clothing and even the manicans looks cheap and skanky. It' not cute or becomming.

I also find something lacking in the clothes themselves. The designs are always just-this-side of chic and their fabrics look and feel cheap (even if the tag says 100% silk, it looks like synthetic to me!). It'd be OK, though, if it weren't all so bloody overpriced!!

oh yeah, the clothes do look alot more sophisticated on the ad campaign. the clothes are certainly hit or miss. i have quite a few bebe pieces in my wardrobe. they do make clothes that fit my figure better, and the silks have stretch in them so they are more comfortable. that said, they do carry alot of slutty clothes. i guess it depends on how you wear them.

Some things at Bebe are great and other things look cheap like you say...
It's the workmanship and construction of the garment that makes it look cheap. Sometimes its really cute though...so I buy it anyway...

I agree about BeBe, it looks cheap but the prices aren't so cheap! Another (horrifying!) tidbit -while in Vancouver, I saw protesters outside the Bebe store and they claimed that some of the "faux fur" fringed items were actually DOG HAIR from China! Ewwww.

I am so glad someone has been able to verbalize exactly what I feel about bebe. I have spent countless hours trying to replicate or at least resemble looks from their advertisements, just to find that their clothes actually look very slutty and cheap. I dont even bother going in the store, anymore.

Those ads look SOOO amazing! And I totally agree! For the longest time there was a Bebe store in my local mall (thank GOD it closed down) and every time my friends and I went shopping, we'd purposely go out of our way not to pass it! The clothes are SOOO trashy in the store!

i work for the website of a major bebe competitor... i feel your pain. a lot of campaign clothing is made specifically for campaign images, or clothing from other countries is used in american images. also, the samples shot are not 100% of what you buy on the rack. another thing to remember is that stores like bebe do not make their own clothing and accessories-- they have designers, yes, but shop out a lot of design and all production work to vendors. when product descriptions are being written, fabric content may not be available information, so beware of words like "silky"-- because when we write copy, we can't claim its silk, but don't know what the hell it is!

since when does eva look chic and elegant???

and of course, clothes tend to look good on mischa and ABB (that's the model, no?)

SO you are all saying because I wear a lot of bebe I dress cheap?
I wear bebe and dress very classy.
I think that you need to stop talking so harshly about bebe, if you don't want to wear it then don't! Oh and EVA looked great in that bebe top!!!

I don't think all Bebe clothes look trashy. I have a few tops by them but the clothes are overpriced and a lot of the clothes and dresses are not practical to wear everyday. I don't like it that a lot of their clothes have their logo all over it, although well designed I don't buy for that reason. And some of the clothes are too revealing..like their dresses and halter tops. How can you wear a bra with those tops, everything would show. or is it that are you not supposed to wear a bra or something? No chance bebe.

I disagree with most of you!!! Bebe clothing is flattering, sexy, classy, and sophisticated. I attend The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in L.A. and our instuctors speak very highly of this company. You can wear this clothing to work or for a night out on the town. Bebe's clothing is NOT TRASHY and the bebe stores I shop at in Newport Beach, CA are presented well and always have helpful staff willing to find you the right fit. If you think this clothing is tacky maybe you should take a second to re-evaluate your situation, pause, deep breathe, sip some coffeeee..THINKKKKK..hmmmm..maybe you have a serious problem. F.Y.I. Bebe clothing is not going to look amazing on you if your a size 10, on that note don't expect anything to look amazing on your silhouette it's just not possible. Now go to you local Forever 21 and get ur shopee shopp on there, then you can go disgrace their name kkk since that's more in your price range. :)

I like their web and ad campaigns:clothes and models look good, though sometimes a little on a slutty side.
Stores look bad, plain bad. First off the store design needs revamping. Sales force needs major revamping:in most stores girls are young, have tons of make up, look very cheap, and, no, they do not look like models, more like street walkers. Actual clothing needs to be of a better quality: ads and campaigns may look good but fabrics and seams are getting and ''F'' from me. So much popular satin trench coat in multitude of colors feels very heavy on, fabric is not flexible, and seams and stitching looks cheap-check out for yourself.
Bebe needs to remove focus from 18yr olds and move it toward more sophisticated and sexy young women 25-35! Oh! Jewelry looks good on photos but so cheap in real life. I would pay more if they would only make higher quality clothing, but for now I stick to higher quality designs and only have very few more classic pieces from BEBE.
And please BEBE stop making these high wasted, floaty princess cut tops that go to the hips--every teen has them and they look sooooo cheap!

bebe has always made very provocative, if not risque, clothing. I agree that the quality of their clothes may have declined in recent years.

HOWEVER, I can tell you all that I am a long time bebe customer and wear their clothes to work all the time.

As with any brand, it depends what you take away from it to make it your own. In my case, I pretty much have only bought bebe suits (I own a ton!) and I've always been complimented on them. Of course, it helps that I have a great body and great legs.

I am a size 0 and have no qualms about spending money on beautiful, classy, well-made clothing. I have yet to find anything other than cheap looking clubbing outfits and embarrassingly provocative workwear at Bebe. And the real tell-tale sign that it's not top notch? Take a look at the customers shopping in the store and the employees next time you pass by and you'll get the idea.

I love Bebe and I feel that the clothes are designed for sexy business women. This is what I find when I visit my local stores, which are Alantic City and King of Prussia. If the product reads scank then maybe that is what you are or what you make it!

Bebe is totally tacky but they have good marketing strategies! They use great models in their ads. All the girls I know that love Bebe live for the trashy look and don't mind admitting it. That's great for them, but not for me! This seems to be a trend in the USA right now, tattoos all over the place, etc. I am not a fan! I'll take old school glam like Audrey Hepburn over this any day and quite frankly, some classy guys agree too! You can be sexy and yet classy at the same time. The fabrics, the cut, manufacturing and sometimes even just the styling are cheap cheap cheap.

I think that all stores are going to have some stuff you like and some you dont. i like many of Bebe's clothing. & i dont know what stores everyone else is going to, but here in New York City where i live, the stores look perfectly fine and the workers are really helpful and the store looks nice and classy. maybe if you live in a state like texas or virginia or even north or south carolina, the stores arent going to look as good and kept as the ones in NYC and California. i like bebe clothing, and i mean no offense when i say this, but bebe is made for small girls like myself so the clothes may not look good on certain sizes. but if you really dont like them, but have an open mind about clothing, asos is a wonderful website to look at clothes! =)
