The Problem with the Drape Neck
Recently in the Ralph Lauren sale, I acquired this completely exquisite cable drape neck cashmere sweater for a very good bargain. And trust me, it truly feels exquisite. It looks great too.The only problem is that while the drape neck looks great and has an interesting twist compared to other classic styled sweaters, it is the devil to match it. I'm not sure about you, but I wear cashmere in cold weathers. And in cold weathers I usually wear a jacket over my sweaters to keep warm.
Unfortunately, with this drape neck, nothing looks good over it. If you wear a big coat over it, the drape neck creates a big bulge in your chest area that creates a terribly unflattering silohuette. If you wear it with a blazer or something and let the drape neck hang out, it looks strange. So the only way to wear it really is on its own. But when the weather is warm enough that I feel I can safely walk out with just a sweater on, this cashmere sweater is too warm.
So this style is actually quite a pain and I'm still trying to figure out how to wear it right. Ideas?

cashmere sweater:
options to carry it:
1) carry it in a mix weather (not too cold)
2)If cannot afford to wait for that weather then carry a kashmeri shall over it (as its fabric is thin but its warm inside)
3)otherwise carry a skin-fitted warm sweater inside.
4)Also one actually don't feel cold when it comes to fashion.especially women. Atleast I.
Otherwise have dry fruits so that you dont feel all that cold.just kidding.
Wear it with a closed blouson and let the drape neck hang out like a shawl, that's the way I do it and it has the advantage of looking a bit funkier and younger than it usually would.
To be honest, the drape necks are just ugly.
I avoid cowl neck sweaters and tops now; they only look good if they are arranged just so, and I can't be bothered with something that fussy!
Maybe a big army green coat (military jacket?) with a slim black pencil skirt, tights, and pumps.
or with something underneath or a cute grey cape with your hair over the neck so it seems less dramatic?
honestly, i'd opt for a more subtle cowl neck, personally I don't really like them cause them make my neck look thicker.
I actually love these and think they can be really flattering, I wear mine over a very warm light top so you don't notice or under my nice double-breasted wool coat but with the coat open so it doesn't fight with the collar. But I also have a long neck and broad shoulders so I think they are one of the only styles that makes me look normal. And I give up once it gets warm because it's just too complicated.
Wear it with a coat that has an open neck; like a big V-neck coat(or jacket). That way you can button to coat and it would still look flattering. But I suggest you wear your hair up to avoid any more fuss in that area.
I have this problem sometimes, too. I have had some success with re-folding the collar under heavy winter coats (just for the walk to work -- you sort of un-turtleneck it and then rearrange so it looks more like a shawl collar -- hard to explain). Other than that, my best bet has been wearing a silk long underwear top underneath. It still feels great, but doesn't add bulk. It does, however, have a tendency to create static electricity...
maybe this design could only fit in 2-seasons country. I think i can wear it on rainy season. Rainy season here is not too cold but you still need a sweater after all, without anything (like a coat) on it. just the thought.
i used to wear a LOT of cowl/drape necks and i found that i never had a problem with it. but i never zipped my coat/jacket/blazer higher than (i guess you could call it) the lowest part of the drape. if it's really cold wear a pashmina. i find because its width makes it super puffy when work like a scarf and you don't have to worry about your neck getting cold.
Would you call this a drape neck?

It's the sweater below the shrug.
Thanks for your help.
Hey what sup, these are some nice clothes, I bet they would look even better if they were holding a mary frances bag, these bags make any outfit stand out, I can't want to get one.
I like the color and the design.
Beautiful sweaters! I would wear it with a collarless coat, if you have one. That way the drape can hang over the coat.
after look at your post, personally I don't really like them cause them make my neck look thicker.
Awesome job, looks great!
