A Cute White Coat
Back in September, I was suddenly very determined to find a casual white coat to have fun with because I was bored of my other coats, which were all black. (Also I'm guessing it was a photo of Ashley Olsen in a white coat from around four years ago that triggered this sudden 'want'. Kind of strange right?)
When it comes to shopping under time constraint, I do target-shopping. Which meant that I headed straight to Zara, where I know would have somewhat stylish, basic and very affordable coats. Zara didn't let me down and I ended up buying this:
OK, so I have recently seen a LOT of girls in the streets here in London wearing basic coats from Zara, either exactly this one or similar ones. But since I get cold easily, I have already started wearing this in late September, so almost no one was wearing it yet. Oh, and I know the coat looks really not-pretty like that, but it looks really cool with the collar up and the top part wide open (the lapel part.)
Oops, rambling off my point. So the white coat did prove out to be really fun. It brightened up my casual outfits and I found it especially fun to wear it with dresses. Unfortunately, the white coat got dirty really easily. I stopped wearing it to lectures after only one lecture because my sitting around in random seats was just too much dirt for my coat to take.
My point is, while I wouldn't spend a huge amount of money on a white coat, I think it's worth trying out a white coat from affordable shops. Think of it as a youthful, cute thing to cheer you and your outfit up on those grey days!

I love trench coats!
That one isn't my style though, I loooooove Zara.
xoxoxo
love that coat. i went into zara a while ago and seriously wanted to buy every single one.
i have a white coat i got from UO last year, it's peacoat-ish but long and with a hood. it has cool details like pleating in the back. it's great but i agree, i wouldn't buy an expensive white coat unless it was for special occasions only.
I found a gorgeous white mink car coat in a vintage store a few years ago. Please don't hate on the mink-I bought it used and it was only $75.00
The silk lining is a work of art.
Whenever I wear this coat I get compliments from everyone. I know that it is because it is such an unusual look. Winter white is fun.
I quite like that coat!
I love white coats, but I have the same problem - they get dirty so easily. Especially in New York. I'd totally wear them more often if I could, though.
I don't buy much of anything that's white, it always gets dirty somehow with me wearing it. And I don't want to worry about getting my clothes dirty when I'm wearing them.
Although sometimes do get a craving to get something white I always remind myself of the care that would be needed.
i wish i lived in a climate where i could justify buying myself coats.. your white coat is gorgeous - i love it and i want it! :)
Hi =) I was just wondering, you mentioned in your profile that you spend some time in hongkong every year... may I ask if there are any stores that you would recommend? any places that sell reasonably priced yet nice clothes? I'll be going to hk next week for the first time and i've heard that it's a real shopper's paradise. thanks!
It doesn't look at all boring to me.
Love the details.

fantastic coat! I wish the weather was cold enough here to wear clothes like these :-)
don't underestimate charity shops. last week i found a cashmere/wool military style fitted coat for 10 pounds. and i know NO ONE will have that same coat but me!
I think is not worth to invest in a white coat, basically because it could be expensive, but it'd get dirty anyway, so I think you are completely right.
Love the coat!! I am going to be in London in the next month... any must visit stores that you can recommend while I am there?
your coat is so cool!
You must be amazing on it!
more cheap with high quality, better for me! agree with you!
a kiss
ah, i am a zara lover!
i just posted some great looks!
check it out!
kisses
I bought my white wool coat from the J.Crew outlets two years ago...it was a great cheap and high-quality find and I don't regret it at all!
i bought a white reversible coat(the other side is light grey) from mango like 7 years ago, and to this day i still wear it with joy! my coats buttons are also light colored, and the design is very very simple, it looks very cool and modern.. and no one else has it because it's so old :)
so i say feel free to splurge on a white coat as it is sure to brighten up dark winter days.
Love the look of white coats, but I don't think I could really wear one- the dirt factor would be too much.I did get a wonderful red peacoat last winter that I love and is a wonderful change from my otherwise black/gray coat collection.
i brought a white coat when the whole military / sailor look was in, but I've most recently brought my coat back out to use in the winter. It's such a great color against my grays and navy blues. I love it! It brightens any outfit!
i had that same urge to buy a white coat last winter. i did, & then i wore it everywhere - but when i took it to be dry-cleaned, they couldn`t clean it back to its pre-worn state.
sigh. & it`s such a pretty coat.
on the other hand, i did wait almost a year before dry-cleaning it...
Good Job! :)
just bought this coat...you are right this pic does it no justice because it looks SO stylish and sleek when you have it on. i tried it on and i was in love, bought it, and no, i absolutely did not need another winter coat but oh well.
I have a beautiful Winter White cashmere coat that I commute in every day. A very sage fashion adviser told me to Scotchguard the coat in places where lots of body oils/dirt accumulate (buttons, tails, collar, wrists) and mine still looks beautiful. I do have it cleaned every other month and re-scotchguarded (I do it at home) and lint rolled to get the gray/black fuzz of life off, but I've been really lucky with mine.
Thank you for the wonderful effort
